SAFETY DATA SHEET FOR COATED ABRASIVES Form according to EC Directive 91/155/EEC and ISO standard 11014 Firma Festool GmbH Wertstraße 20 D-73270 Wendlingen Phone ++49 (0) 7024/804-0 Fax ++49 (0) 7024/804-778 E-Mail [email protected] Internet www.festool.com As per: Jan/2012 Printing date: 21-02-12 PLEASE NOTE: Coated abrasives are inert products from which absolutely no risk emanates when it comes to handling or storage. When coated abrasives are used on sanders, care needs to be taken to protect the user. 90% and more of the sanding dust produced when sanding originates from the sanded material. Particular care therefore needs to be taken when it comes to the composition of the material. Adequate safety equipment like dust extraction needs to be installed. 1. PRODUCT DESIGNATION Rubin 2 2. IDENTIFICATION OF HAZARDS NOT APPLICABLE. Coated abrasives do not constitute hazardous materials or formulations according to EU dangerous preparations directive 88 / 397 EEC. 4. FIRST AID ONLY APPLIES TO COATED ABRASIVES DURING USE. The recommendations listed below constitute fundamental rules with respect to dust and other particles during sanding operations. What needs to be added to these recommendations is the information contained in safety data sheets for the material to be sanded and for the cooling lubricants used. On dust inhalation: Get out of danger zone and ask for medical assistance unless symptoms subside. On eye contact: Get out of danger zone and rinse eyes with clean water. Ask for medical assistance unless symptoms subside. On skin contact: No known adverse effects on health. On swallowing: No known adverse effects on health. 5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Dangerous smoke may be produced. Wear respiratory protection. Suitable fire extinguishing agents: water, fire extinguishing powder, extinguishing foam, sand, CO2, depending on the respective environmental conditions. 6. ACTION IF ACCIDENTALLY RELEASED Not applicable. 7. HANDLING AND STORAGE The instructions given with respect to sanders and pertinent regulations as well as safety recommendations need to be complied with when it comes to handling. 8. LIMITATION OF EXPOSITION/PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT NOT APPLICABLE WHEN IT COMES TO HANDLING AND STORING COATED ABRASIVES. Dust mainly consisting of the processed material must be expected to be generated when using coated abrasives. General dust threshold limit value: 6 mg/m3. The instructions as to sanders and pertinent national regulations need to be complied with when using coated abrasives. Please also see FEFPA safety recommendations with respect to the appropriate use of coated abrasives. Safety Data Sheet Festool Rubin 2 Page 2 of 4 As per: Jan 2012 8.1 Depending on which type of work is performed and which material is sanded, the following personal protective equipment must be used: Respiratory protection: Put on dust respirator (grade depending on material to be processed) Hand guard: Use protective gloves (grade depending on material to be processed) Eye protection: Use guard cover, protective goggles or face protector (grade depending on material to be processed) Ear protection: Use ear-protective device (grade depending on material to be processed) Personal protection: Use personal protective equipment (grade depending on material to be processed and processing technique) 8.2 Hygiene measures: No particular rules apply. 9. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES 9.1 Physical state: Solid 9.2 Colour: Varies 9.3 Smell: Not applicable (a non-specific scent may be emanated during use) 9.4 PH value: Not applicable 9.5 Change of physical state: Not applicable 9.6 Density: Not applicable Bulk density: Not applicable 9.7 Vapour pressure: Not applicable 9.8 Flash point: Not applicable 9.9 Explosion properties: Not applicable 9.10 Viscosity Not applicable 9.11 Solubility in water: Minor solubility 10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Coated abrasives are resistant and do not change during handling and storage. 10.1 Conditions that need to be avoided: Do not disintegrate when used appropriately. 10.2 Materials that need to be avoided: No known dangerous reactions. 10.3 Dangerous decomposition products: At temperatures of more than 250°C, dangerous or poisonous decomposition products may be created.
