If It Doesn’t Exist For many years homeowners were satisfied with large cabinet speakers because there was no alternative. If a person wanted sound of any quality the choices were limited to cabinet finish and several established brands. Although sonic performance had improved greatly from the old console systems that had occupied a massive footprint in the living room, newer component systems still required a substantial space dedicated to electronics and loudspeakers. No one had an elegant solution to this problem and people simply accepted the only products available in order to enjoy music in the home. Due to their physical size, few people would even consider speakers in more than one room so listening was relegated to the living or family room.
Invent It! In the early eighties SpeakerCraft saw the conflict between electronic technology and interior design and set out to address the problem. Since a speaker had to be present in a room in order to function, the key was to mount it in such a way so as to make it as discreet as possible. The result of this effort was the first in-wall speaker to be produced for residential applications. The cabinet itself is color-matched to the U.V. resistant lacquer coating that covers the speaker so if the cabinet is chipped by a careless gardener or a curious child, it will simply expose the same color underneath. This will result in years of musical enjoyment.
Carefully selected components are used to recreate the musical nuances in today’s digital recordings. A great deal of effort has gone into improving the Ruckus series from our original ROX speakers. The result is better frequency response and more sound pressure for greater outdoor coverage and improved musical clarity. Depending on the size and configuration of the landscape, there are several Ruckus models to choose from. Standard two-way models are available in 5, 6 or 8-inch versions with cabinet sizes that increase with the size of the woofer. There is also a 6-inch Dual Tweeter version that plays both stereo channels from a single enclosure. This is a great option when speakers need to be placed further apart. There is also a dedicated 8-inch subwoofer with its own amplifier to round out the bottom end regardless of which outdoor speakers you choose.
Because of the rain and snow to which the speakers will almost surely be exposed, the cabinet has an integrated drainage system. This allows the water to be flushed away from critical electronic components increasing the durability and longevity of the speakers. There is also a security tab on the bottom of each enclosure for securing the speaker via a cable or chain to an adjacent tree or water pipe to avoid theft.
