DPU 1000 v Installation Guide vi DPU 1000 27 Installation Guide Overview Overview The Model DPU 1000 is designed to provide management and control of individual access to restricted areas when used in conjunction with other components of the S/90 access control system. The DPU is a solid state device which utilizes control switches and microprocessor circuitry to program and control access to a specified area. This is accomplished by programming the DPU to respond to specific coded keys/cards that are inserted into the key/card reader, to which the DPU is connected. If a valid read is received from the key/card reader, the DPU will relay an enabling signal to a door strike, or similar device, allowing entry. Each DPU provides control for one separate point of entry. DPU 1000 1 Key/Card Reader Installation Installation Guide Key/Card Reader Installation Physical and electrical installation instructions for the key/card reader are provided in this section. Physical Installation The key/card reader (see Figure 1) may be installed for use with both inside and outside doors. Key/Card Reader Grounding In order to eliminate the harmful effects of static discharge when a user touches the key/card reader, and thus, to ensure uninterrupted operation, the key/card reader must be properly grounded. If the key/card reader is installed on a large metal surface (i.e., door jamb), the surface may serve as a sufficient grounding medium. However, make a thorough check to ensure that the metal surface is in itself well grounded. If it is not installed on a properly grounded metal surface, provide a ground for the key/card reader as follows: Caution: Failure to properly ground the key/card reader could result in damage to the reader and/or other equipment connected to the reader. To be most effective, the ground wire should be as short as possible (no more than 20 feet long). 1. Connect a piece of 10 AWG (5.27 mm2)or larger, solid wire between the key/card reader grounding screw and the nearest metal object such as a cold water pipe, metal frame, or grounded electrical outlet box as shown in Figure 7. (Use a crimpon lug on the wire end to be connected to the key/card reader grounding screw. Connect the other end of the wire to the metal object by the method best suited to ensure a solid ground connection.) 6 DPU 1000 Installation Guide Key/Card Reader Installation 10 AWG (5.27 mm2) wire or larger Crimp-on Spade Lug Key Reader Grounding Screw Cold Water Pipe Or Grounded Electrical Box To Key Reader Grounding Screw Figure 7. Key/Card Reader Grounding 2. If no suitable metal object is available for grounding, consult CSI for a special key/card reader grounding cable. (The special cable is designed to help reduce static problems, but is not intended to replace the preferred grounding wire method described in Step 1 above when that method is at all possible.) Power/Data Line Connection Connect the key/card reader to the door processing unit (DPU) or entry controller by connecting the telephone plug on one end of the cable supplied to the connector at the rear of the key/card reader. Then route the other end of the cable to the DPU or entry controller. All operating power and data is routed through this single cable. Key/Card Reader Low Temperature Package If the key/card reader will be exposed to temperatures below 30° F. (-1° C.) for an extended period of time, the key/card reader low temperature package should be installed to prevent frost from accumulating on the key/card slot. Either a Key Reader Low Temperature Package (CSI Part No. 1310-2118) or a Card Reader Low Temperature Package (CSI Part No. 1310-2318) can be ordered from CSI. Consult your distributor for further details. The following paragraphs provide installation instructions for the low temperature package. Also included is a brief theory of operation which describes how the package functions. Theory Of Operation The Key/Card Reader Low Temperature Package is installed on key/card readers which are exposed to low ambient temperatures in order to provide uninterrupted operation during even the coldest months. DPU 1000 7 Key/Card Reader Installation Installation Guide The key/card reader low temperature package heating element is a self-regulation thermistor which will activate to heat at low ambient temperatures and deactivate at normal or high ambient temperatures. Nominal resistances of the heating element are 25 Ohms at -35° F. and 1500 Ohms at 122° F. Thus, the package may remain in operation year round. However, it is recommended that the power supply (customer furnished) be turned off during the warm season in order to increase the life of the power supply. The operating voltage required for the heating element is 5 VDC to 20 VDC. The lower the voltage the less heat is produced, and the higher the voltage the more heat is produced. A 12 to 18 VDC power supply (customer furnished) with 2.5 A minimum continuous (surge capability in excess of 3 amp) will provide the most efficient operation and prolong the life of the heating element. The heating element will activate at approximately 50° F, and will produce increasingly more heat as the ambient temperature drops in order to maintain the key/card reader at a constant temperature of 45° F to 50° F. Low Temperature Package Contents The contents of the Key Reader Low Temperature Package and the Card Reader Low Temperature Package are shown below: Key Reader Low Temperature Package (CSI P/N 1310-2118): ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ Note: Heater element with mounting bracket One screw, panhead: #2-56 3⁄8" (10 mm) One screw, panhead: #2-56 5⁄16" (8 mm) Two wire nuts (IDEAL 30-073) Card Reader Low Temperature Package (CSI P/N 1310-2318): Heater element with mounting bracket Two screws, panhead: #2-56 1⁄2" (13 mm) Two wire nuts (IDEAL 30-073) To complete installation of the key/card low temperature package, the customer must furnish a 12 to 18 VDC power supply. Low Temperature Package Installation Field installation of the key/card reader low temperature package is accomplished as follows: Warning: Remove all electrical power from interconnected equipment. Failure to do so while performing electrical installation may result in electrical shock or burns. 1. Use a length of 18 to 20 AWG (0.897 to 0.519 mm2) standard zip cord, or equivalent, (customer furnished) which will reach from key/card reader to the location selected for the power supply. 2. At the key/card reader end, strip back approximately 1⁄2 inch to 3⁄4 inch (13 mm to 19 mm) insulation from the power cord. For best results, the wires should be tinned. 8 DPU 1000 Installation Guide Key/Card Reader Installation 3. Remove key/card reader and backshell. Remove the three screws from the top of the key/card reader frame (opposite the circuit board). 4. Align the heater element to the screw holes, with the red and black wires to the rear of the key/card reader. 5. Replace the front #2-56 screw with the applicable screw furnished, and the rear screw with the applicable screw furnished. Leave the screws slightly loose and push the heater element flush with edge of key/card reader chassis and secure. Note: The center screw will also be replaced at this time if chassis grounds are not being used. If a chassis ground will be used, leave the center screw out until entire assembly of heating element to key/card reader has been completed. 6. Re-assemble the backshell onto key/card reader with the red and black wires exiting through the square connector access hole of backshell at rear or bottom of unit. Note: Caution: If key/card reader low temperature package kit was preassembled at the factory, skip Steps 7 through 10 and perform Step 11 at this time. If kit was not preassembled, proceed with Steps 7, observing the WARNING and CAUTION below. When performing Step 7 below, ensure that the polarity of the power wires is observed. 7. Using the two wire nuts provided, connect the wires from the power supply to the red and black wires at the rear of the key/card reader. 8. Replace key/card reader, reassemble, and secure into wall or other mountings. 9. At the power supply, to ensure an effective connection to the terminals, strip a sufficient amount of the insulation from each power wire.A crimp-on connector lug (not furnished) may be used for a better and more positive connection. 10. Observe polarity when connecting wires to power supply as described in the owner’s manual of the applicable power supply. 11. Apply power to the power supply as instructed in the owner’s manual. Connect the two power leads from the CSI power transformer provided to the two AC (AC HI and AC LO) terminals on the lower left side of the printed circuit board. c. Plug the CSI power transformer into a standard 115 VAC, 60 Hz outlet. If excessive AC power line noise, spikes, or brownouts are experienced, it may be necessary to provide a power line noise filter or uninterruptable power supply in order to ensure proper operation of the system. Optional Battery Backup Note: Using the CSI battery option will provide approximately 10 hours of backup operating power in the event of a primary power failure. This will not, however, provide door strike power, which must be supplied separately. A backup battery charger is built into the printed circuit board and will support one 12V, 4 AH gell cell battery. If the optional battery is purchased, mount the battery below the printed circuit board, using the battery cable provided (refer to Figure 9). Connect the positive side of the battery to the BATT+ terminal and the negative side to the BATTterminal. The BATT+ and BATT- terminals are located at the lower left side of the printed circuit board (see Figure 9). Optional Tamper Alarm Input The TAMPER input connector is located on the right side of the printed circuit board (see Figure 9) and provides a means of monitoring the security of a selected area or the DPU itself. In order to monitor the status of this input, the DPU must be interconnected to either a printer (through CSI Model PIU Printer Interface) or a central terminal. Note: A shorting strap is factory installed between the TAMPER input terminals. Remove the jumper before connecting a tamper switch. Using 18 AWG (0.897 mm2), twisted pair, shielded cable (Belden No. 8760, or equivalent, is recommended), connect the TAMPER input connector to a normally closed switch located not more than 300 feet (90 m) from the DPU. DPU Address Each DPU in a system must have its own unique identification number. This is accomplished by adjusting the setting of an eight-position DIP switch S2 located on the right side of the PCB (see Figure 10). Table 3 shows the required switch settings for unit identification numbers 1 through 32. If a DPU is not connected to a communications line, set the unit number to 1. 14 DPU 1000 Installation Guide System Setup System Setup When switches 6, 7, or 8 are placed in the OFF position, the options in Table 1 are implemented: Table 1. This section contains instructions for initializing the DPU for operation after either initial installation or a power interruption to the DPU. In addition, operation of the equipment is described. Self-Test Upon each initial application of operating power or depression of the RESET switch S1 (see Figure 9 on page 12), the DPU cycles through an automatic self-test sequence. If the self-test is successful, the DPU will begin normal operation. If any errors are found during self-test, the LED display (on the display board) will show an error message in the form xx, where xx will identify the error. Each of the error messages is described in Table 2. If an error message occurs, contact CSI and/or perform maintenance as required. Table 2. Self-Test Error Messages Error Message Error Description 01 Not Used 02 Insufficient Ram 03 Ram Error 04 I/O Error 05 Insufficient EEprom 06 EEprom Error 07 Processor Error 08 Clock Chip Error 09 Analog to Digital Chip Error In addition to the self-test, when power is applied, the unit identification switches will be read. 16 DPU 1000 Installation Guide System Setup Note: If the DPU is in the stand-alone mode, the user must enter the system key/card into one of the key/card readers. Caution: In addition to initiating a self-test, if the RESET switch is depressed and then the MODE switch is depressed, approximately 1.5 seconds apart, all previously programmed parameters, including time, will be cleared from the DPU memory. Therefore, exercise caution when using the RESET switch in order not to erase programmed information except when desired. (Waiting approximately 15 seconds between depression of the RESET and MODE switches will ensure that programmed data will not be erased from memory.) Controls and Indicators Each of the DPU controls and indicators, which are located on the PCB, is described below (see Figure 11). Parameter Group LEDS Keys Time/Date Issue Key Valid MODE UP DOWN ENTER DELETE RESET Figure 11. DPU 1000 Controls and Indicators MODE Switch This pushbutton switch is used to select the parameter to be programmed. The parameters are: KEY #, ISSUE, HOURS, MINUTES, MONTH, DAY, and YEAR. These parameters are arranged into three groups: KEY/ISSUE, TIME, and DATE. With each depression of the switch, the next parameter is selected, its field on the screen begins flashing, and the applicable parameter group LED illuminates. UP Switch This pushbutton switch is used to alter the data in the selected parameter. While the switch is depressed, the selected parameter will not flash. When the switch is depressed for longer than three seconds, the unit will enter a high speed mode and increase at a higher rate. DOWN Switch This pushbutton switch is used to alter the data in the selected parameter. While the switch is depressed, the selected parameter will not flash. When the switch is depressed for longer than three seconds, the unit will enter a high speed mode and decrease at a higher rate. DPU 1000 17 System Setup Installation Guide ENTER Switch This pushbutton switch will store the currently displayed data of the selected parameter. If it is held down during KEY # scanning, the keys scanned will all be activated (programmed into the system). If it is held down during ISSUE level programming, the UP and DOWN switches will alter the KEY # field, thus allowing the displayed ISSUE level to be assigned to multiple keys. DELETE Switch This pushbutton switch will restore the currently selected parameter to its default value. In the case of KEY #, the key will be deactivated. If this switch is held down during KEY # scanning, the keys scanned will all be deactivated (programmed out of the system). RESET Switch This pushbutton switch resets the system. To perform a COLD start (all data is cleared) press the RESET switch, then press the MODE switch. Initialization Operational program initialization and control may be accomplished by utilizing the controls and indicators on the DPU printed circuit board. To use the DPU, controls and indicators are used, follow the instructions given below. After the DPU and all associated equipment have been properly installed and interconnected, initialize the DPU for operation as follows: 1. Apply operating power to the DPU 1000 and other system components as applicable. Observe that the DPU accomplished the automatic self-test as previously described and that the time display is shown on the LED display (00:00). 2. Clear the DPU memory by depressing the RESET switch and then the MODE switch within approximately 1.5 seconds. Observe that the DPU accomplishes that automatic self-test as previously described and that the time display is shown on the LED display (00:00).(For more detailed information on initialization of the DPU, refer to the Programming/Operation section in this manual.) 18 DPU 1000 Installation Guide Operation Operation When in the stand-alone configuration, operational control is accomplished by using the controls and indicators on the DPU printed circuit board. When the DPU is connected to a central terminal, all operational control is accomplished through the terminal, and any entries attempted using the DPU controls will be superseded by the last entries made using the terminal. However, if required, when a DPU is connected to a central terminal, control may be returned to the DPU by disconnecting the communications line at the DPU terminals. If the communications line is subsequently reconnected to the DPU, operation will once again return to the status of the last entries made at the terminal. This section provides initialization procedures, instructions for determining program requirements prior to actually programming the system, instructions on entering the program data into the system, and an operational description for the Model 1000 DPU. Initializing DPU Stand-Alone After power-up, press and release the RESET switch. When all digits on the screen illuminate, press and release the MODE switch. This completes a COLD start and memory is cleared. To enable the system to recognize only the keys/cards for one system, insert and remove the SYSTEM key/card in the reader. The green LED on the key/card reader will illuminate and the DPU will enter the PROGRAM mode. Enter and remove the SYSTEM key/card again and observe the door will momentarily unlock. This establishes the system code in the DPU and places it in the PROGRAM mode. (The DPU will now recognize only the keys/cards within this facility code until a COLD start is required.) Observe the program panel indicator alternately displays “- - - -” and “0000”. When in the PROGRAM mode, the “- - - -” represents the program mode display. The “0000” represents the last key/card read. This enables the programmer to verify a key/card # by inserting it into the reader. For example, key/card #1 would display alternately “- - - -” and “0001”. Caution: DPU 1000 Do not install a DPU that has been initialized as a stand-alone into a new uninitialized central system without removing all power and battery backup (including the memory protect battery, see Figure 8) from the DPU before connection to the central system communication line. Failure to do so could result in the wrong system code being initialized in the central system. This may require the central terminal unit or the floppy disk to be returned to the factory for reinitialization. 19 Operation Installation Guide Programming Instructions Upon each initial application of operating power or pressing of the RESET switch, the DPU will cycle through an automatic self-test as previously described. At the successful completion of this self-test, the time function will be shown on the LED display. If the self-test is not successful, the DPU will not begin normal operation and error messages will display as previously described. Also, when operating power is first applied to the DPU, if the optional backup battery is installed, the battery will automatically start charging as required. If primary power to the DPU is lost, the battery will provide up to ten hours of backup operating power. Once the battery is completely discharged, it will require approximately 24 hours with primary operating power applied to the DPU to fully recharge the battery. The programming panel (controls and indicators on PCB) will be inactive until the system key/card has been entered into the key/card readers. During this time the realtime hours and minutes (or an incrementing time display beginning at zero time (00:00) if either no time is programmed, or if RESET has been activated to clear memory) will be displayed on the LED display and the colon between the hours and minutes will flash to indicate that the unit is in the normal operating mode. Once the system key/card has been read, the display will alternately show - - - - and 0000", to indicate that the program mode is active. At this time the three SELECT switches will also become functional. The FUNCTION SELECT switch can be pressed to select the programming function desired. (Each function is described in the following paragraphs.) If any of the other switches are pressed, the programming mode will be terminated. Programming Mode Place the DPU into the PROGRAMMING mode by inserting and removing the system key in the reader. This initiates the PROGRAMMING TIMER. The TIMER resets to two minutes each time the SYSTEM key is entered, PROGRAMMING mode is initiated, or if any key, except RESET, is pressed. At this time, the display will flash between a dash in each digit and the last key number read by the reader. Adding And Deleting Keys/Cards Individual Keys/Cards Enter the PROGRAMMING mode as previously described. Press MODE switch until the KEY/ISSUE LED lights on the display. The first three digits of the display will flash with the number 001 which represents the first user key 001. (The next digit is the ISSUE level for the user and will be discussed later.) In order to enable this key/card and allow door entry, press ENTER. To delete key/card from the system, press DELETE. The KEY VALID LED will light for valid user and will not light for an invalid user. Groups of Keys/Cards To program a sequence of numbers, press the ENTER and UP or DOWN switch at the same time and the numbers will increase or decrease as applicable. As the number is scanned, it will automatically be programmed into the system. 20 DPU 1000 Installation Guide Operation If the DELETE switch is pressed with the UP or DOWN switch, then the key numbers scanned will be deleted from the system. Key/Card Issue Level During key/card programming, press the MODE switch. Observe that the first three digits display key 001 and the fourth digit flashes with the current issue level for that key. All keys/cards start at issue level 1 and must be programmed with the user’s current issue level. For example, if a key/card is lost, then the user can be issued level 2 with the same user number. To provide high speed programming of a block of keys/cards to the same issue level set the issue level for the first key of the block to be programmed then press ENTER and UP or DOWN switches at the same time. The key/card numbers will be scanned up or down as applicable. The DELETE switch does not function in this mode. An issue level cannot be deleted, only changed. Key/Card Assignments The next step in the completion of system data input is the assignment of keys/cards. At this time, personnel, and doors are linked together. In the example below, the following keys/cards will be assigned. (Note that gaps are left for the addition of personnel at a later date.)Employee or Department Table 3. Key/Card Assignment Example Allowed Access Issue 1-3 Yes 1 Staff 10-30 Yes 1 Cleaning 50-53 Yes 1 Employee or Department Key/Card Management Each DPU 1000 will allow programming of time, to Time Stamp activity; keys, to allow entry for each user programmed in; and issue, to replace a lost or stolen key. The programmer should now copy and complete Table 5, “Key/Card Assignment Worksheet,” on page 25. Programming Time When the TIME function is selected the LED display will show the currently programmed hour and minute in 24-hour format (00:00 to 24:00). The UP and DOWN switches are used to move the time forward or backward until the correct time is displayed but the data will not be programmed until the ENTER switches is pressed. When the ENTER switch is pressed, the mode will increment to the minutes mode automatically. If the ENTER switch is not pressed and only the next mode is desired, then press MODE switch to advance. The Minutes, month, day, and year are all programmed in the same way as the hours. The DELETE switch does not work during this mode. DPU 1000 21 Operation Installation Guide Editing The Program To edit any of the program parameters, place the DPU in the PROGRAMMING mode as previously described. Press the MODE switch until the applicable program parameter is flashing. Edit the parameter using the UP, DOWN, ENTER, or DELETE switches as applicable. Exiting The Program Mode One of the steps listed below should be used when all program parameters have been entered and exiting from the program mode is desired: ✦ ✦ ✦ Press RESET switch or Wait on PROGRAMMING mode 2 minute time-out or Press any switch (except MODE). Operational Control After the DPU and the associated equipment has been installed and programmed, operation will be as described in the following paragraphs. Adding And Deleting Keys/Cards Individual keys/cards or groups of keys/cards may be added or deleted at any time by inserting and removing the SYSTEM key/card into the key/card reader one time to enter the PROGRAMMING mode, and then follow the instructions given in Programming Mode. Initial Power Application Or Reset Upon each initial application of operating power or depression of the RESET switch, the DPU will cycle through an automatic self-test sequence as previously described. During this self-test, the key/card reader LED will alternately flash red and green, the key/card displays will flash and the red LED on the PCB will flash. Upon completion of the selftest, the LED will extinguish. User Keys/Cards When a user key/card which has been programmed into the system is inserted and removed from the key/card reader with one smooth, continuous motion, the door strike will unlock. The door will then remain unlocked for 7 seconds or until it is opened and then closed (if the DPU is interfaced to a door sense switch), whichever occurs first after the valid key/card read. If a key/card which is not programmed into the system is used, or if a bad read occurs due to either improper insertion and removal of key/card or leaving the key/card in the reader, an invalid read signal will be received by the DPU. In addition, the key/card reader LED will illuminate red, and the door will remain locked. Using Door Release Switch Pressing the door release switch will unlock the door, thus allowing personnel to exit. After pressing the door release switch, the door will remain unlocked for 7 seconds or until it is opened and then closed (if the DPU is interfaced to a door sense switch), whichever occurs first. The key/card reader LED will illuminate green during the time the door is unlocked. If the door is not closed within 7 seconds after the release switch is 22 DPU 1000 Installation Guide Operation pressed, the door strike will relock. Auxiliary indicators can be used to sense and report this condition. in addition, if a PIPU and printer are connected, a DOOR-OPEN-TOOLONG condition message will be printed. Door Sense Switch The door sense switch provides a constant monitor of the state (either open or closed) of the controlled door, and allows the door strike to relock immediately upon closure. The door sense switch also detects forced door openings. Monitoring/Controlling Functions During normal operation, the DPU will perform the monitoring and/or control functions as programmed in accordance with specific system parameters. Proper operation may thus be determined by the evidence that the programmed functions are actually being accomplished as desired. Tamper Monitor If a tamper switch is installed and the area it is monitoring is accessed in an unauthorized manner, a TAMPER ALARM message will be enabled by the DPU. This message will be routed to and printed/displayed by a printer and/or the central terminal if either or both of these are connected to the system. Auxiliary Indicators If user supplied indicators are installed using the FORCED DOOR ALARM output, they will activate/deactivate, to indicate the status of the controlled door in accordance with Switch S2, position 7 selection (refer to Table 3). Both the alarm bypass and door strike functions are processed by the same relay on the printed circuit board. The ALARM BYPASS OUTPUT can be used to detect forced doors, DOTL conditions, and shunt door alarm system during a valid entry when used in conjunction with existing door sensing hardware. Using The Options When the DPU is used in a central system configuration, Switch S2-8 in the OFF position will not allow the door to AUTO UNLOCK except after the first valid key/card presented during an unlock cycle. When the DPU is used in a central system configuration, Switch S2-7 in the OFF position will activate the FORCED DOOR ALARM relay for only one second. When the DPU is used in a central system configuration, Switch S2-7 in the ON position will activate the FORCED DOOR ALARM relay which will remain activated until a manual RESET is executed. Loss Of Primary Power In the event primary operating power is lost during normal operation a POWER FAIL message will be generated by the DPU. This message will be routed to and printed/displayed by a printer and/or the central terminal if either or both of these are connected to the system. If the optional backup battery is installed, it will provide up to ten hours of backup operating power.
