Micaiah Literature and Composition April 20 2017 [email protected] Sad, Happy, Or Both? Mit, Mit, ever heard a name like that? Probably not, but it is a real name, as a matter a fact it’s my name. Hi, I’m Mit, I am a grown, strong, courageous panther. But I was not always like that, I once was a scrawny small panther once. Some might say my story is a good story, some might say my story is a sad one. I think it is a little of both, what do think? Well I guess I should tell you my story first so you can answer that. Where should we start? Ah I know, our story starts in the Amazon jungle. Your normal every day jungle, dark, gloomy, wet, and REALLY scary. ‘Twas a good day for the Amazon, the sun was out, the jungle was alive with the bold sounds of the birds (always found the birds annoying) and animals. Me and my mom were enjoying some fish that she had caught for mid-day meal. Everything peaceful and calm, and neither of us spoke as we let our lunch settle in. Scared me a bit when my mom spoke up, “Mit the world is dangerous, while you are still little stay with me. When you grow up you can go out and explore all you want.” “Ok…” I said in response a little confused. Little did I know that she had saw panther hunters walking around. After that, the day was just like it always is after lunch. I ran off and chased rabbits and snakes without a care in the world. The day went by and night approached fast. Me and my mom hunkered down for the night in a cave we made our home. We both slept like logs until we heard a lot of commotion outside of the cave. My mom told me to hide as fast I could. With it being the middle of the night I did not move very fast. As I got into my hiding place I heard a strange noise that i figured was the noise that another type of monster makes to communicate with other monster. It sounded something like this, “I bet my life on it that i saw two panthers enter this cave.” that was all I could hear before the monsters left the cave. For awhile I was close to my mom like she told me too, but I was a small kid panther, I did not stay close to her for a long time. I knew she had told me to stay close to her, but I just had to chase that bird. I kept running and playing for a long time. Even though I was far from the cave I knew right where I was the whole time. Then I got to a part of the forest I was a little hazy on where I was. Then as I kept running I came to this open area where there was all these triangles coming up out of the ground. I explored a little bit till I heard something out of the woods. I ran and hid behind one of the triangles to keep, from whatever was coming, from seeing me. I hid listening to the thing that was coming, then I realized that the thing was things. I listened to the things come closer, thats when it hit me, these things were the monsters that came to our cave the other night. They kept coming closer making the scary noises they made. Then they made it to the triangle that he was hiding behind. I was doing ok and thought I that I was fine hiding right where I was. Then one of the monsters came and saw me behind the triangle. As soon as I saw him and he saw me I dashed for the cover of the forest. They started making loud noises and pointing at me as I ran. Next thing I know the ground around me was exploding as I ran. Every time the ground blew up I heard a loud pop. I ran as fast I could back to our cave, trying not to die in the process. I ran faster than I had ever before. I gained a good amount of distance between me and them. I looked back and didn’t see them in sight, without realizing that I could see in front of me I ran right into my mom. “THERE YOU ARE!” my mom yelled in my face. “Whats wrong?” she said when she saw my fear stricken face. “BIRD… RAN… OPEN PLACE… TRIANGLE… MONSTERS!” I said trying to find my breath. “Wait slow down… Monsters?” “We have to run.. Same monsters coming!” I managed to get out. I think she finally realized what I was saying. She began to talk then stopped when there was a crackle in the woods behind me. “Mit... run.” “But mom..” “RUN!” I started to run faster than I had before as the monsters jumped out of the brush of the jungle. I kept running as my mom fended off the monsters. I dont know how i kept running as i heard roars of anger from his mom. I found a hiding a hiding place in a tree stump. As I was hiding I heard another pop like before, and the roars of anger from my mom stopped. I realized then that I was alone from that point on. At that point I had never felt so alone in my life. It had been at least a day before I came out my tree stump. I mostly came to find myself some food. I was look around for a time before I started to stalk a rabbit I saw. I lay in the brush for awhile before I pounced on the rabbit. As sat there with pride enjoying my favorite meal. I must have zoned out because I did not realize the crackling of the forest behind me. Next thing I knew I had a rope around my neck and I was enjoying the moment as much as I had before. As I was there struggling I knew that I was done, and I had to say goodbye to my forest and my rabbit. Still to this day I’m still not sure what happened then and there. All I remember was that there was a low growl and a blur of black and a scream from the monster. The rope around my neck at that moment went slack. I got out as fast as I could and ran for the cover of my tree stump. The moments passed as I hid breathing as softly I could. I kept hiding there in peace until i heard a deep voice say; “Come out young one, all the evil is gone.” even though the voice was soothing like my mothers I did budge an inch. The next thing the voice said was even more surprising “Mit, it is ok to come out.” I sat there kind of dazed for a moment, then inched my way out. When I came into the dark light of the jungle I saw a panther standing there even bigger than my mom. This panther was not just a normal panther, no he had deep dark eyes. I thought i could even see all the knowledge in the world in them. He was very tall and muscular, he looked like the panther my mom always described to me, my Dad. Even though I had a good guess who he was I still asked him; “Who are you?”. “I think you know very well who I Mit.” he said with his deep gravelly voice. I sat there and stared at him not expressing much, but on the inside I was over bounding with joy on the inside. We started walking exchanging very few words. We found a place to sit and watch the sun and exchange a few more words. He told about the hunters, who they are what they do. He about the only reason they left was because he chased them out. He told me about how he was the guardian of the jungle. He told about how all the guardians would protect the jungle. After we had talked for awhile he asked me if I wanted to become a guardian. I said yes and he started to teach me of how to become a guardian. He has taught me everything i know now, and thats how I’m here today telling you my story. So, I have told you my story, everything you need to know to make your decision. My life was rough but I had my Dad there to help me through it, and i could tell my mom was there as through everything. So what do you think, is my story sad, happy, or a little bit of both? What will you decide? The End
