SAFETY AND OPERATING MANUAL 25cc PETROL BLOWER JMSBV25BL GENERAL POWER TOOL SAFETY WARNINGS WARNING! Read all safety warnings and all instructions. Failure to follow the warnings and instructions may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury. Save all warnings and instructions for future reference. - This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety. - Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance. 1) Training a) Read the instructions carefully. Be familiar with the controls and the proper use of the appliance; b) Never allow children or people unfamiliar with these instructions to use the appliance. Local regulations can restrict the age of the operator; c) Never operate the appliance while people, especially children, or pets are nearby; d) Keep in mind that the operator or user is responsible for accidents or hazards occurring to other people or their property. 2) Preparation a) While operating the appliance, always wear substantial footwear and long trousers. Do not operate the equipment when barefoot or wearing open sandals; b) Do not wear loose clothing or jewellery that can be drawn into the air inlet. Keep long hair away from the air inlets. c) Wear protective goggles while operating d) To prevent dust irritation the wearing of a face mask is recommended e) Never operate the appliance with defective guards or shields, or without safety devices, for example debris collector in place f) WARNING – Petrol is highly flammable - Store fuel in containers specifically designed for this purpose; - Refuel outdoors only and do not smoke while refueling; Add fuel before starting the engine. Never remove the cap of the fuel tank or add petrol while the engine is running or when the engine is hot; 2 - If petrol is spilled, do not attempt to start the engine but move the machine away from the area of spillage and avoid creating any source of ignition until petrol vapours have dissipated; - Replace all fuel tank and container caps securely; g) Replace faulty silencers; h) Before using, always visually inspect to see that the blade, blade bolts and cutter assembly are not worn or damaged. 3) Operation a) Do not operate the engine in a confined space where dangerous carbon monoxide fumes can collet; b) Operate only in daylight or in good artificial light; c) Always be sure of your footing on slopes; d) Walk, never run; e) Do not overreach and keep your balance at all times. f) Keep all cooling air inlets clear of debris. g) Never blow debris in the direction of bystanders. h) Disengage drive clutches before starting the engine; i) Start the engine on the motor carefully according to instructions; j) Do not start the engine when standing in front of the discharge chute; k) Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts. Keep clear of the discharge opening at all times; l) Never pick up or carry the appliance while the engine is running; m) Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire, make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop - Before clearing blockages or unclogging chute; - Before checking, cleaning or working on the appliance; - If appliance starts to vibrate abnormally (check immediately); n) Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug wire, make sure that all moving parts have come to a complete stop - Whenever you leave the appliance; - Before refueling; o) Reduce the throttle setting during engine shut down and, if the engine is provided with a shutoff valve, turn the fuel off at the conclusion of mowing; 4) Maintenance and storage a) Keep all nuts, bolts and screws tight to be sure the equipment is in safe working condition; b) Never store the equipment with petrol in the tank inside a building where fumes can reach an open flame or spark; c) Allow the engine to cool before storing in any enclosure; d) To reduce the fire hazard, keep the engine, silencer and petrol storage area free of grass, leaves, or excessive grease; e) Replace worn or damaged parts for safety; f) If the fuel tank has to be drained, this should be done outdoors. g) Use only genuine replacement parts and accessories. h) Store the appliance only in a dry place. Use good quality accessories marked with a well-known brand name. Choose the type according to the work you intend to undertake. Refer to the accessory packaging for further details. It’s not intended to use indoors or animal grooming. ASSEMBLY ATTACHING AND REMOVING THE BLOWER TUBE (See Fig. A1—A5) WARNING! To prevent serious personal injury, stop the engine and allow the impeller to stop before attaching or removing tubes. Fig.A1 a Fig.A2 b Fig.A3 Fig.A4 a Fig.A5 6 c Attaching NOTE: The blower tube comes unassembled on this unit. Installation is required to provide safe and easy use for the operator. 1. Insert the upper blower tube into the lower blower tube and rotate the upper blower tube in clockwise direction (Fig. A1). Make sure they are connected tightly. 2. Before attaching the blower tube, first loosen the screw(a). Insert the blower tube all the way into the opening on the motor housing. Make sure the tab(b) on the blower tube align with the groove(c) in the housing. (Fig. A2, A3) Fig.A3 3. Rotate the blower tube to the position as shown in Fig. A4 and tighten the screw with the spanner provided firmly. Do not over-tighten (Fig. A5). Removing To remove the blower tube, follow the above procedures in reverse order. OIL AND PETROL INSTRUCTIONS Old and/or improperly mixed fuels are the main reasons for the unit not running property. Be sure to use fresh, clean unleaded fuel. Follow the instructions carefully for the proper fuel/oil mixture. RECOMMENDED OIL TYPE Use high quality synthetic oil formulated for use in 2-Stroke, air-cooled engines. RECOMMENDED PETROL TYPE Always use clean, fresh, unleaded petrol (gasoline) that is less than 60 days old. WARNING! Petrol (gasoline) is extremely flammable and its vapors can explode if they are ignited. Always stop the engine and allow it to cool before filling the petrol tank. Do not smoke while filling the tank. Keep sparks and open flames away from the area. SAFETY TIPS FOR FUELING - Always handle fuel with care. It is highly flammable. - Always refuel outdoors where there are no sparks and flames. Do not inhale fuel vapors. - Do not let petrol or oil come in contact with your skin. - Keep petrol and oil away from the eyes. If petrol or oil comes in contact with the eyes, wash them immediately with clean water. If irritation is still present, seek immediate medical help. Clean up spilled fuel immediately. Always store fuel in an approved container. MIXING FUEL AND OIL WARNING! Read ‘’Safety Tips for Fueling’’ before you begin. 1) This engine is designed to operate on unleaded petrol .This product requires pre-mixing petrol and 2-stroke oil. 2) Before operation, petrol must be mixed with good quality synthetic 2-stroke air-cooled engine oil designed to be mixed at a ratio of 40:1 (40 parts petrol to 1 part oil). WARNING! Customers should purchase the 2-stroke oil otherwise. 3) DO NOT USE automotive or marine oil. These oils will cause engine damage. Do not mix a quantity that is larger than can be used in a 30-day period. 6) Petrol is highly flammable and extreme precautions must be taken when handling or working with petrol. Petrol should only be stored in an approved container. Fig.B1 CLOSE OPEN 40:1 STARTING/STOPPING INSTRUCTIONS WARNING! Avoid contact with muffler, a hot exhaust can cause serious burn! Fig.B2 5 Mix petrol (gasoline) oil. Fill petrol tank with petrol/oil mixture. See OIL AND PETROL MIXING INSTRUCTIONS. Fig.B3 CLOSE OPEN Fig.C 1. START A COLD ENGINE 1. Press On/off switch (3) to position “ I ” . (Fig.B1) 2. Place the choke lever (9) in position CLOSE. (Fig. B2) 3. Fully press and release primer bulb (10) slowly 5 times. Petrol should be felt and visible in the bulb. If petrol hasn’t entered the bulb, press until it does. 4. Pull starter rope briskly (Fig. B3). Continue pulling (it should take 2 to 5 pulls). 5. Place the choke lever (9) in position OPEN. 2. STARTING A WARM ENGINE 1. Press On/off switch to position “ I ”. 2. Place the choke lever in Position OPEN. (Fig. C) 3. Pull starter rope briskly to start the engine. 3. STOPPING INSTRUCTION 1. Release the throttle lever. 2. Press On/off switch to position “O” until the engine comes to a complete stop. (Fig. D) Fig.D 8 Fig.D OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS 1. HOLDING THE BLOWER Before operating the unit, check for the following: -Operator is wearing proper clotting, such as boots, safety glasses, ear/hearing protection, gloves, long pants and long sleeve shirt. -If the conditions are dusty, the operator is wearing a dust mask or face mask. -The unit is in good working condition. -The tubes and guards are in place and secure. 2. OPERATING TIPS Assure the unit is not directed at loose debris or persons before starting unit. Always hold the unit with both hands when operating. Keep a firm grip on both the front and rear handle or grips. To reduce the risk of hearing loss associated with sound level(s), the use of hearing protection is required. Watch out for children, pets, open windows, or freshly washed cars, and blow debris away. After using blowers and other equipment, clean up. Dispose of debris in trash receptacles. 3. OPERATION 1. Start engine. See Starting/Stopping Instructions. 2. Sweep from side to side with the nozzle several inches above the ground or floor. Slowly advance, keeping the accumulated pie of debris in front of you. (Fig. E) NOTE: Most dry blowing operations are better suited to low speed than high, while high speed is better for moving heavier items like large debris or gravel. Use the blower for trees, shrubs, flower beds and hard to clean areas. Use the blower around buildings and for other normal cleaning. Use the blower for walls, overhangs and screens. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS Fig.E Fig.i Fig.F Fig.G Fig.H AIR FILTER MAINTENANCE Removing the air filter cover Press both sides of the air filter simultaneously and then pull off the air filter cover. (Fig. F) Fig.I 9 Fig.F Fig.G Fig.H Fig.I Fig.J Cleaning the air filter Clean and re-oil the air filter every 10 hours of operation. It is an important item to maintain. Not maintaining the air filter will VOID the warranty. 1. Remove the air fitter cover. See Removing the Air Filter Cover. 2. Remove the air filter from behind the air filter cover. (Fig. G) 3. Wash the filter in detergent and water. Rinse the filter thoroughly. Squeeze out excess water. Allow it to dry completely. 4. Apply enough clean oil to lightly coat the filter. 5. Squeeze the filter to spread and remove excess oil. 6. Replace the air filter in air filter cover. NOTE: Operating the unit without the air filter and air filter cover assembly, will VIOD the warranty. Reinstalling the Air Filter Cover 1. Place the air filter cover over the back of the carburetor. 2. Press both sides of the air filter simultaneously and insert tabs on both sides of the air filter cover into the correct position. Make sure they are connected tightly. (Fig. F) REPLACING THE SPARK PLUG Use a Champion RDJ7Y spark plug (or equivalent). The correct air gap is 0.5mm (0.020in). remove the plug after every 50 hours of operation and check its condition. 1. Stop the engine and allow it to cool. Grasp the plug wire filmy and pull the cap from the spark plug. (Fig. H) 2. Clean dirt from around the spark plug. Remove the spark plug from the cylinder head by rotating anti-clockwise with the socket spanner provided. (Fig. I) 3. Replace cracked, fouled or dirty spark plug. Set the air gap at 0.5mm (0.020in) using a feeler gauge (Fig. J). 4. Install a correctly gapped spark plug in the cylinder head. Tighten by turning the 5/8 in socket clockwise until snug. If using a torque wrench, torque to: 12.3-13.5N.M (110-120in. lb.) Do not over tighten. CLEANING AND STORAGE CLEANING THE UNIT Use a small brush to clean off the outside of the unit and to keep the air vents from obstructions. STORING THE UNIT 1. Perform all the general maintenance recommended in the Maintenance Section of your User Manual. 2. Drain fuel from the fuel tank. 3. After fuel is drained, start engine. 4. Run engine at idle until unit stops. This will purge the carburetor of fuel. 5. Allow engine to cool (approx. 5 minutes). 10 6. Using a spark plug wrench, remove the spark plug. 7. Pour 1 teaspoon of clean 2-stroke oil into the combustion chamber. Pull starter rope slowly several times to coat internal components. Replace spark plug. 8. Store unit in a cool, dry place away from any source of ignition such as an oil burner, water heater, etc. REMOVING A UNIT FROM STORAGE 1. Remove spark plug. 2. Pull starter rope briskly to clear excess oil from combustion chamber. 3. Clean and gap spark plug or install a new spark plug with proper gap. 4. Prepare unit for operation. 5. Fill fuel tank with proper fuel / oil mixture. See Fuel and Lubrication Section. Warning 2 Stroke fuel when stored for an extended period of time and this can sometimes be as little as a month will go stale. It loses the gasses required for combustion and may render starting difficulties. The easiest and recommended option is not to store fuel for extended periods, you should empty out all fuel in both your machine and fuel container and start fresh with new fuel at the beginning of each new season. TRANSPORTING Allow the engine to cool before transporting. Secure the unit while transporting. Drain the petrol tank before transporting. In order to get maximum benefit from your new purchase, please be aware of the warranty provisions outlined in this document. 2 YEAR REPAIR WARRANTY Your Blower Vac is guaranteed for a period of 24 months from the original date of purchase. As the product is intended exclusively for home DIY (Do It Yourself) use, thus use of this product for professional, industrial or high frequency use will VOID this warranty. If your product is defective, it will be repaired or replaced in accordance with the terms of this warranty. The warranty is provided by Mitre 10 (New Zealand) Limited (“known as Mitre 10”) Rights & Remedies We are dedicated to delivering a quality product to all our customers. All of our products are warranted for two years from date of purchase against defects in material and workmanship. If we determine that the product has a manufacturing fault, we will repair or replace it free of charge to you. The decision to repair or replace is solely at the discretion of Mitre 10 (New Zealand) Limited. What is not covered under warranty? • Professional, Industrial or high frequency use if the purpose of the tool is stated as DIY (Do It Yourself) in the instruction manual. • If the tool has been operated on a supply voltage other than that specified on the tool. • If the tool has been operated with incorrect oil, fuel or fuel mix. • If the tool shows signs of damage or defects caused by or resulting from abuse, accidents or alterations. • Failure to perform maintenance as set out within the instruction manual. • Failure to correctly fit, adjust or sharpen the chain, blade or cutting attachment. • If the tool is disassembled or tampered with in any way • General wear and tear • Servicing by an unauthorized service agent • Any consumable parts Exclusions • Any consequential loss or damage to any person or property directly or indirectly as a result of using product. • The warranty is only valid in the country of purchase. If you file a warranty claim outside of the country of purchase you will be charged fees by the local provider. What do we require? It is our requirement that all warranty claims are accompanied by a proof of purchase (sales receipt) to allow verification of the date of purchase. Where proof of purchase is not provided, Mitre 10 (New Zealand) Limited reserves the right to charge a service fee and/or charge for parts replaced/ repaired. A return freight charge may apply. The warranty is ‘return to base’ and not a free in-home service. This means the customer is responsible for any inwards freight charge to return the product to the Mitre 10 or Mitre 10 MEGA store where the product was purchased from, for the warranty to be applicable. Please retain your Proof of Purchase. Only the original owner is covered by the manufacturer’s warranty and must have purchased the product from a Mitre 10 or Mitre 10 MEGA store in New Zealand. 13
