SAM Tablet XP1 is a lightweight Windows XP tablet that runs a lot of the software that you are already familiar with: E Z Keys™, Say-it! SAM™ or Speaking Dynamically Pro®. Robust and Portable The XP1 tablet is originally designed to withstand the rigors of industrial use. The case is made of a thin and light magnesium alloy and high-impact plastic. This leads to a robust unit that comes with a one-year warranty which can be extended to a total of three years. The XP1 weighs less than four pounds, and comes with a shoulder strap for ambulatory use. The tablet has a built-in battery and an external battery – together, the two provide eight hours of use for a typical user. For longer life, you can purchase additional external batteries to keep charged and hot-swap (without turning off the tablet) as you need them. Loud, Clear Voice The XP1 comes with a choice of AT&T Natural Voices™, or DECtalk™, depending on the software package that you choose. For systems with AT&T Natural Voices, choose the one human-sampled voice that suits you best. Systems with DECtalk include all nine familiar voices. Dedicated Devices The XP1 is available as a dedicated speech generating device (SGD) to comply with Medicare guidelines. Be sure to specify a dedicated device part number when ordering.

Environmental Control The U-Control III option gives you the ability to control TV, VCR, lights, and other appliances through your device, whether you are using symbols or text. Accessories Mounting plates are available for mounting to wheelchair and desktop mounts. An optional integrated easel is available for using the XP1 on a desktop. Other available accessories give you more battery life, more file storage, and other benefits, as shown in the table to the left.
Some Questions and Answers Q. “How portable is it?” A. It weighs 3.9 pounds with the external battery installed, so it is very portable.It comes with a shoulder strap. A fully enclosed soft bag with a clear, water-resistant window is available. Q. “What is the price?” A. Pricing for the XP1 and all accessories is shown to the left. Be sure to specify the software and voice that are best for you, and specify a dedicated device if you need a Medicareapproved dedicated speech generating device (SGD). continued on next page

Questions & Answers cont. Q. “What is the battery life?” A. Up to 8 hours, with the internal battery and the included external battery, depending on use. Additional external batteries and an external charger are available. You can hot-swap the external battery and get up to 5 more hours. Q. “How long does it take to charge?” A. It takes 6 hours to charge the internal and external battery. The external charger takes 4 hours to charge an additional external battery. Q. “What does it come with?” A. It includes the tablet unit with internal battery, one external battery, AC adapter, your selection of communication software and voice, software manual and software CD, shoulder strap, easel, external keyboard and mouse and one-year warranty. The non-dedicated versions also include an external CD-ROM drive. Q. “What are the most popular options?” A. The external battery charger and additional external batteries are helpful for long periods of continuous use. The easel and tray slide are also very practical. The integrated U-Control III option lets you control TV, VCR, lights and other appliances.
Q.“What is the warranty?” A. One year parts and labor, through Words+. You can optionally extend the warranty to a total of three years. Q. ”Is it available as a Medicare Speech Generating Device?” A. Yes. It is just like what you see here, except that you won’t be able to quit the E Z Keys, Say-it! SAM or Speaking Dynamically Pro software and use theWindows desktop for things like email, internet access, games, etc. Only the speech generating features of the device will be accessible. Our funding professionals can help you start the funding process immediately. Q. “Does it have Windows features, such as Microsoft Word, WordPad, NotePad, and Internet Explorer?” A. The non-dedicated version allows you to access Windows components and applications from the Windows desktop using the touch screen and on-screen keyboard. You can add a wireless card for internet access using Internet Explorer—work with your local dealer if you need this functionality. (The dedicated version is prevented from running Windows desktop features--this is not a Words+ limitation, but is a requirement specified by Medicare and other agencies for all computer-capable communication aids.)
Q. “Are there standard user files available?” A. Depending on the software package you buy, each comes with applicable sample users. Say-it! SAM and Speaking Dynamically Pro come with the full MayerJohnson® symbol set. Plus, we can use some of the training time that is included with your purchase to help you set up some pages for your client. Q. “How rugged is it?” A. You should treat it like most other communication aids that have a large LCD crystal – don’t drop it. Also, it is water resistant, but not waterproof. Our custom carrying case will improve the weather-resistance further. It has a clear plastic window so you can use the device while it is in the case. Most people will find the display to be visible outdoors in all but direct sunlight.
