Background information Schaerer AG Schaerer – Swiss coffee competence Founded in 1892 and headquartered in Zuchwil, near Solothurn, Switzerland, Schaerer AG is one of the world's leading manufacturers of fully automated professional coffee machines. Schaerer offers the right coffee machine for all needs and performance requirements – whether it’s for a coffee bar in an office or a busy self-service restaurant. Customers all over the world value Schaerer products for their ease of use, the large selection of drinks available at the touch of a button and the excellent quality of the coffee. Numerous innovations underscore the company's pioneering approach. The strapline “swiss coffee competence” is founded on the Swiss engineering skills on which the company draws and its far-reaching coffee expertise. The "Barista inside" strapline plays with the idea of the company's coffee machine technology and many years of coffee expertise being equal to the skills of a barista: inside the coffee machines everything meshes perfectly to make drinks that are on a par with the hand-made creations of a barista, in terms of both taste and appearance. Schaerer began by manufacturing medical instruments, operating tables and sterilisation equipment and did not create its first coffee machine until 1924. Time and again, Schaerer has shaped and invigorated the coffee-making industry with groundbreaking innovations such as the world's first automatic piston coffee machine (1957) and the first fully automatic cappuccino system (1997). In 2015, Schaerer launched its revolutionary Best Foam milk system, which produces milk foam of the very highest barista-level quality: creamy and with a silky, snow-white surface in a variety of consistencies. The system can produce anything from a "Fujiyama" cappuccino to an "Atoll" chociatto at the touch of a button – with the perfect combination of crema and milk foam for a really special experience. When the Schaerer Coffee Soul was launched in 2017, Schaerer presented “Uptime!”, its innovative new descaling system. An early-warning system indicates when the machine needs to be descaled and thus prevents any malfunctioning caused by limescale. The machine can be descaled automatically overnight to avoid any interruptions in service and is ready for use again in the morning. The Schaerer Barista hybrid espresso machine launched in 2017 brings two worlds together, combining the fundamental principles of a portafilter machine and the skills of a barista with the ease of operation and process reliability of a fully automatic coffee machine. Since 2006, Schaerer AG has been a key part of the WMF Group's professional coffee machine division. And since the takeover of the WMF Group itself at the end of 2016, Schaerer has been a subsidiary of the large French consortium Groupe SEB, where it is able to contribute its Swiss coffee expertise and engineering skills. Schaerer's headquarters are in Zuchwil, Switzerland, where its development and production facilities are located as well. The company also benefits from its own comprehensive sales and service network there. Schaerer follows market-specific requirements closely and remains keenly focused on its customers with subsidiaries in Germany, Belgium and the US as well as 100 partner companies in over 70 countries in Europe, the Americas, Africa and the Asia-Pacific region. Schaerer has a strong presence in quick-service restaurants, convenience stores and offices as well as in traditional market segments such as hotels, restaurants and canteens. The company has around 450 employees all over the world. 1/5 Background information Coffee specialists from Schaerer have always combined technical skills with an appreciation of good coffee. An expression of this all-encompassing passion for coffee is the Coffee Competence Centre (CCC), Schaerer’s in-house training and consulting centre. Coffee machines for a wide variety of coffee drinks Schaerer coffee machines provide a wide variety of coffee drinks, allowing virtually any wish to be fulfilled at the touch of a button. Managing the recipes couldn't be easier: all the parameters for the drinks offered are programmed exactly and individually and stored in the system – from the grind level, coffee quantity and brewing temperature to the amount of milk, its temperature and the consistency of the foam. You can thus be sure that whatever coffee drink you make will be of outstanding quality with a consistent flavour. From a traditional café crème to an extravagant milkbased speciality of the house. In addition, powder systems and the Flavour Point syrup system (only available for Coffee Art Plus) provide even more scope for unique coffee creations. Schaerer's coffee machines at a glance: Schaerer Coffee Soul The Schaerer Coffee Soul offers cutting-edge technology and elegant design. The patent-pending “Uptime!” descaling system is a real innovation offering outstanding ease of use. In addition, the touch screen has been enhanced and the drinks display is now more attractive. The Best Foam milk system is included for milk foam a barista would be proud of, allowing a wide variety of coffee drinks of the very highest quality to be made. The Schaerer M2M Coffee Link telemetry system is available as an option, allowing real-time data analysis as well as location-independent access to the coffee machine. The Schaerer Coffee Soul has an output of up to 250 cups a day and is perfectly suited to small restaurants and coffee bars. It is also an interesting option for use in offices. Schaerer Coffee Club The Schaerer Coffee Club comes into its own wherever there is a demand for highquality coffee but space is limited – in restaurants, guest houses, hotels, cafés, convenience stores, catering environments or offices. The machine impresses not just with its striking design and innovative 7" touch screen with a vertical swipe function. Packed to the brim with proven technology, integrated bean hoppers, a fresh milk system offering exceptionally easy cleaning thanks to CleanIT, the new SteamIT for the perfect cup temperature and many other features, it allows a great variety of coffee drinks to be created intuitively to suit every taste. Moreover, thanks to its compact dimensions (325 mm wide, 570 mm deep and 501 mm high), the Coffee Club can fit in anywhere, in an office, for example, or even on a kitchen counter. 2/5 Background information Schaerer Barista The Schaerer Barista combines the fundamental principles of a portafilter machine and the skills of a barista with the easy operation and process reliability of a fully automatic coffee machine: all quality-related parameters, including grind level, coffee dosing and tamping, are set individually during on-site installation. All the operator has to do is insert the portafilter and select a drink. At the same time, traditional steps such as knocking out the portafilter or frothing the milk (manually or fully automatically) provide an array of typical sounds. Schaerer Coffee Prime The Schaerer Coffee Prime is the first choice for anyone looking for an economical and environmentally friendly solution. The machine can be retrofitted with additional options, is easy to use, processes powder products, saves energy and can be cleaned without chemical cleaning products thanks to the disposable NcFoamer solution for the milk system, which needs replacing just once a week for HACCP-compliant cleaning. When combined with an elegant trolley, the Coffee Prime is even suitable for mobile use. Schaerer Coffee Art Plus No other coffee machine features as many options for the preparation of milk-based coffee drinks as the Coffee Art Plus. Both the milk foam quality and milk temperature can be individually controlled, and even the high-quality processing of cold milk is child's play. The optional Best Foam milk system creates milk-based coffee drinks of barista standard, and the Flavour Point syrup system, another option, allows practically any coffee drink idea to be turned into reality. The Schaerer Coffee Art Plus is suitable for medium-sized to large businesses. Schaerer Coffee Vito The Schaerer Coffee Vito offers everything needed in a small restaurant, a vending machine or a self-service environment: compact dimensions, up to 15 different coffee, chocolate and milk drinks at the touch of a button, easy operation and minimal maintenance outlay. M2M Coffee Link telemetry solution Schaerer M2M Coffee Link is based on Schaerer's many years of market experience. This telemetry solution was developed together with strong partner companies and works perfectly with Schaerer coffee machines. Detailed sales data for improved accounting and transparency, information on fill levels and consumption, usedependent planning of maintenance intervals and much more: automatic data transmission between the coffee machine and the administration system opens up new scope for the efficient control, management and optimisation of both business and service-related processes. Coffee Competence Centre (CCC): 360° coffee expertise For Schaerer it has always been clear that if you want to build high-quality coffee machines, you need a deep understanding of the sensory, biological and sociocultural 3/5 Background information aspects of coffee. This gave rise to the idea of a knowledge and service platform, which became a reality in 1999 in the form of the Coffee Competence Centre (CCC). The coffee specialists at the CCC offer a comprehensive service package. For example, they develop holistic coffee plans to suit the specific market of the customer with recommendations pm both the right coffee blend and the coffee drinks that should appear on the menu. They also recommend the ideal coffee machine, including the settings for all technical parameters. In short, the CCC provides everything needed for a solution that is an all-round success. The CCC imparts Schaerer coffee expertise to restaurants and many other companies – its own, above all. Since 2008, over 150 Schaerer employees have received the Barista Foundation Certificate from the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA), including the entire executive board and every single service technician and sales employee. At the CCC, coffee knowledge is shared, above all, with partner companies, customers, coffee roasters, future restaurateurs and anyone else interested in coffee both in Switzerland and abroad. A range of courses are offered on topics such as growing and harvesting coffee, the different types of coffee beans and the significance of different quality factors during coffee processing and preparation. The CCC in Zuchwil features a state-of-the-art training infrastructure, a small roasting facility, a tasting bar and four fully equipped working stations for practical exercises and tasting. While coffee is fundamental, milk is the crowning glory Since the triumphal procession of cappuccino and latte macchiato around the world, if not before, it has been clear that success depends on what you do with the milk. Schaerer recognised this early on and created a new benchmark in the coffee machine industry with the first fully automatic cappuccino system in 1997. The company still gives the same level of attention to the milk as it does to the coffee. It offers its customers the world's largest range of innovations for milk preparation. The most recent of these is the fully automatic Best Foam milk system, which guarantees milk foam that a barista would be proud of. In addition, Schaerer offers four different steam outlets for manual and automatic milk frothing as well as a range of different milk systems such as Centre Milk, Twin Milk or Under Counter Milk. Long-term partner, strong support Wherever you are in the world, if you choose a coffee machine from Schaerer, you can depend on the company to provide outstanding technical support throughout the machine's service life. In Switzerland, its home market, Schaerer sells its products directly to end customers and provides support through its own nation-wide service network. The subsidiaries in the US and Germany have sales and service partners, while the Belgian subsidiary offers sales and service to customers directly. In other countries Schaerer works with independent partner companies. Technicians around the world are trained either locally or in Switzerland and learn how to do all the support work for every Schaerer model. In addition to technical know-how, technicians in Switzerland are also trained as baristas. They are thus able to help customers optimise the flavour of the coffee and handle any other sensory aspects. Focus on self-service 4/5 Background information Superb coffee is no longer restricted to the full-service restaurant sector. In selfservice outlets and from vending machines as well, customers can expect to enjoy the flavour of fresh coffee, excellent quality and a large selection of drinks at the touch of a button. Schaerer has developed a touch screen operating panel designed for selfservice applications, TouchIT, that meets the needs of consumers as well as machine owners. Various designs are available for the user interface, all of which are exceptionally user friendly. In standby mode the screen can be used for advertising messages promoting campaigns, specialities or innovations.
