SportNgin Live works on a desktop, laptop or iPad. We ask that ALL games are also scored on a paper game sheet. This serves as a back up in the instance that the connection is lost during the game and stats do not enter properly and in the instance that there are errors in the online data. PRIOR TO THE GAME: ACCESS THE GAME. Games are accessed from the CAHA site. http://www.caha.co. Log in through the HPHL scorekeeping account. Top of page. Log in information: [email protected] pw - scorekeeper Go to League Scoring/Stats then HPHL. Select edit mode (the switch, not the gear) top left of page. Click on the Game Schedule tab. Click on the appropriate game in the Status column. SCORING A NON-LEAGUE GAME If you are about to score a non-league game, you will need to go to Standings Overrides. Click on the very small gear just above and to the right of Score Live. Select Edit Game Details. Scroll down to Standings Overrides. Click on this and in the Standings Options select Does Not Affect Standings. Be sure to Save Details – very bottom of page. GAME NOTES – LIST ANYONE SERVING A GAME SUSPENSION HERE If the game you are scoring has anyone serving a game suspension, you should enter this information in the game notes. To access game notes, you click on the gear just above and to the right of Score Live. Select Edit Game Details. Scroll down the game details section until you see Game Notes. When you select Game Notes a text box will show and you can write in which players/coaches are serving suspensions. Include name, team, and note that they are serving a suspension. You will also be able to access the game notes after the game (even after it is finalized) and enter additional information if needed. Be sure to hit Save Details at the very bottom of the page. Next click on Score Live. Score Live works if scoring “live” at the game OR if entering statistics from a paper sheet at a later time. FILL IN NECESSARY INFORMATION BEFORE THE GAME BEGINS. Enter the following in the Game Details section: *Names of all officials. Call them over during the warm up and get their names. All of them please. They can write their name on your paper scoresheet. *Add yourself as the “Scorekeeper”. Do NOT skip this step! *Make sure the game times are correct. V – 17 minute periods JV and Girls – 15 minute periods There is NO overtime during the regular season. So do not add an OT period or the losing team will be awarded one point and the standings will be incorrect. Be sure to SAVE game details. Switch to Teams/Rosters. Each team’s manager or coach should give you a list of scratches and /or additions. Select each player (according to the list you have been given) that will be on the bench. You can also select all active and uncheck those that are scratched, but do NOT “select all” and then uncheck. The “select all” option also selects inactive players that are not showing on your screen. HPHL players are at risk of losing eligibility if entered while inactive. Suspended players/coaches should not be showing on the active roster. If the manager has asked you to add any players to the game time roster. Please find out if those are players that will be permanently on the team or if they are merely filling in/being pulled up for that game. If they are a not a permanent roster addition, please add an ”S” after their name to indicate they are a substitute. Select the starting goalie for each team. Select the coaches that are on the bench. Each team must have a head coach (HC) designated on the paper scoresheet. Coaches should be at the top of the list without jersey numbers. If not listed, please find out who is on the bench and enter them! You are now ready to select Score Game. SCORING THE GAME: ENTERING GOALS. Select Goal. Select the scoring team. Select the player that scored and any that assisted. HPHL keeps stats, so please make sure to enter the correct players. When choosing players to assign to a goal - or any other play action - there's no need to scroll up in down while scanning names and numbers. Simply type in the player's number and that player will automatically pop up. Another option is to start typing in the first or last name of a player and a short list of players with that name will appear. Enter the period and clock time. No need to convert into elapsed time, as the program does that for you. Just enter the time showing on the clock. No colon needed when entering times. If a goal was scored with 10:10 left in the period, just type in 1010. The colon will automatically be added after you hit return. Identify the type of goal – even strength, power play, short handed or major power play (scored during 5 minute major). You do not need to mark the location of the goal or worry about assigning pluses and minuses to players. Once all is in and correct, select Next Play. ENTERING PENALTIES. Select Penalty. Select the penalized team. Select the penalized player. You can leave the Served By field as Bench unless someone other than the player who took the penalty is serving it. Scenarios where you would need to fill in the Served By field would include: a goalie taking a penalty or a player taking multiple penalties causing another skater to serve one of them. Also, for a Too Many Men on the Ice or any other bench infraction, leave the top Skater field at the default Bench option, then choose the skater that is serving the penalty in the Served By field. Select the infraction type. You can scroll or type in the first letter or two to narrow your options. Enter period and clock time. Select the severity of penalty. The most common two minute minor is in bigger box at top – minor (2:00). Five minute major is the other bigger box option. If double minor, and selecting the double minor option remember that this counts as TWO penalties against the team/player. Be very careful to select correctly between misconduct and game misconduct. A game misconduct is frequently accompanied by a 5 minute major (five and game) and results in a game suspension. The player will be escorted off the ice and cannot return. Another player will serve the 5 minutes. A misconduct is frequently accompanied by a two minute minor (two and ten) though it can also be assessed on it’s own. The player returns to the game once the penalty has been served. Do not use the bottom row of options (those with 0:00 minutes), as they do not apply to our league. The game penalty and the game ejection are also not applicable to our league. Please note that a match penalty is NOT the same as a matching or coincidental penalty! A match penalty is a very serious offense that results in a lengthy suspension, so please please do not select this option unless there is truly a match penalty! Once you select the severity you will be asked if it results in a power play or not. No need to enter the location of penalty. Once all is entered, go to Next Play. ENTERING SHOTS ON GOAL. Please DO track shots on goal. Our goalies like to see their stats also! These can be entered as they occur by selecting Shot and the team that took the shot. We do not track the shooters so leave shooter as Bench. We do not track shot location either, so ignore the rink map. Next play. Shots can also be entered at the end of each period in batch form. Just leave the Shooter field as the default, or "Bench," and then type in the number of shots (minus goals) for the team. Goals are automatically counted as shots in Sport Ngin Live. Another way to think of it is you are actually entering saves for the opposing goaltender. We recommend typing 000 as the time when entering batch shots for each team for each period. This method does not work, however, when a game ends with a goal in overtime. In that case, the shots should be entered using the same time the winning goal was scored. IMPORTANT NOTE: The shot counters at the top of the screen, just under the score for each team, do not recognize batch shots. So if you enter 10 shots for a particular team for one period, the SOG for that team will only increase by one. Disregard those SOG totals, as the bulk shots are being recorded properly everywhere else in the system. If there was a goalie change during the period, the shots will not credit correctly if entered as a batch at the end unless you enter a batch for each goalie. This would involve adjusting the goalie selected and entering the number of saves (shots faced minus goals scored) the goalie made during the period. Then switch goalies and do the same for the other goalie. ENTERING A GOALIE CHANGE. Please watch for and record goalie changes. The same applies in the case the goalie is pulled leaving the net empty. Our goalies like their stats reflected correctly. Select Goalie Change. Select the team. Use the arrow to select a New Goalie entering the game. Enter the time of the goalie change. Use the small X next to the goalie’s name to delete the goalie in the case of an empty net. Enter the time the goalie was pulled. If the goaltender later returns to the game, be sure to change the Empty Net field to the goaltender's name and enter the time of the change. If you are entering shots in batch form at the end of each period, you will need to factor in the goalie change or empty net, so that your count is accurate for each goalie and against the empty net. START OF NEW PERIOD. Select Start New Period at the beginning of the second and third periods. Do NOT select next period at the end of a game or it may result in reflecting an OT, with a point going to the losing team and causing the standings to be inaccurate. You can use the switch sides button if you like to keep team info lined up with the direction the teams are attacking. CORRECTING ERRORS. If you make a mistake click on the play in the play list. This will highlight the play. You can now make any changes needed. These will be automatically saved. If you need to delete the play, click on the play in the play list and use the red delete button. You will then need to confirm “Yes, Delete”. ADDING GAME INFORMATION AFTER A GAME HAS STARTED. Click on Menu in the upper left corner. Then select Game Settings to change information on the game details page. Such as adding an OT period during playoffs. You can also access teams/rosters and make roster additions during the game. SHOOTOUTS (PLAYOFFS ONLY). Select Shootout. Select the team that is shooting. Select the player. Indicate if Goal or Save. Next play and repeat for next shooter, etc. Once the shootout is over select the winning team and hit Shootout Won, then Next Play. MISC. We do not track faceoffs, turnovers, hits, blocked shots, or location of shots taken. You can ignore the rink map. Internet Connection. Sport Ngin Live was designed to be used with an internet connection, so keep an eye on the upper right corner of your screen. If the connection light is green, you are good to go. If it is red, you do not have a connection and your plays will not be saved. You will see red dots next to your plays in the Play List if your plays are not being saved. You can continue to score a game if you lose your connection, and it's possible that your plays will be saved and the light buttons next to them will turn green when you regain a connection. We ask that all games are scored on paper also and that the paper scoresheets are saved. An additional precaution is to take a photo of your paper game sheet just in case all the plays don't save. Last Play of Game. Be sure to hit Next Play after the very last play of the game or that play will not be recorded. Do NOT hit Start New Period though. FINALIZING THE GAME. It is absolutely crucial that the game data is reviewed BEFORE the game is finalized. Contrary to the message on the screen you CANNOT make any changes once finalized. Before finalizing any game give the officials and coaches from each team an opportunity to review the game data. This is the time to make sure: *Stats have been entered correctly and are credited to the correct players. *Shots on goal are entered for the correct goalies and goalie changes reflected properly. Most importantly look over penalties. *Verify any game misconducts with the official. *Count up penalties, look for 5 in a game for players; 15 in a game for teams. Double minors count as two penalties. A two and ten counts as two penalties. *Check for multiple misconducts or multiple majors that might result in the need for an additional game misconduct. *Verify any additional game misconducts that you find with the official and enter them as needed. In a situation where the same player has received a second ten minute misconduct in the game, the second misconduct should be entered as “Second Misconduct (same game)”. It results in a game suspension. Multiple majors to the same player, 5 penalties in a game to the same player, and 15 team penalties in a game all result in game suspensions, but are not listed in the menu of choices for type of infraction. In these cases please mark them as “other”. They are entered in addition to the multiple majors, 5 penalties, or 15 team penalties. *For any penalties marked as “other” please go to game notes and write in what the infraction actually is along with the name and team of the player/coach receiving the penalty. Game notes can be accessed during a game or after the game has been finalized from the initial “Score Live” box. If you are in the process of scoring the game, you would need to go to the menu (top left) and log out. Then select the small gear on the top right of the Score Live box. Select Edit Game Details from the drop down. After the game has been finalized, as long as you are logged in, you should still be able to access the drop down menu in order to get to the game notes. Don't close the game out until you have verified the information and feel comfortable it is accurate. Once all data is verified and you are ready to close out the game click on Finalize Game in the upper left corner. This will bring up the following screen. Enter the name (not the number) of the OFFICIAL that verified (looked over or approved) the game in the Referee Sign Off. Then select Finalize Game. If there were game misconducts in the game be sure to point this out to the team manager. Be sure the paper copy of the scoresheet is saved. Either the scorekeeper or the team manager should hold on to these. If you are keeping the paper copy of the scoresheet, the team manager may want to take a picture of it. CAHA mandates that all games be entered online within 24 hours of play. Referees need to be able to access the online game data in order to complete their required reports following any game misconducts. Players and coaches serving game suspensions will not be cleared until the game is entered. We do not want them to show up suspended for additional games.
