Sarah Friedman—Executive Director [email protected] 803-772-5861 -7- Texprocess 2012 Feedback Dan St. Louis Director Manufacturing Solutions Center “This show has definitely paid for itself; probably ten times over. We were impressed with the high quality of the opportunities that came our way. Being there helped us better understand the significant scope of a strong re-shoring trend. One highlight for us was a 45-minute interaction we had with a major brand. Had we not been at the show, we don’t think we would ever have that opportunity,” ————————————————————————————————————————Matt Poovey Vice President Champion Thread Company “Even before this show was over, we had made our decision to come back next time. While we saw a number of existing customers, the majority of our contacts were with new business opportunities. We believe that this is THE show for our industry covering all ranges of our business from apparel producers to advanced technical textile manufacturers. Exhibiting at Texprocess Americas is important as it shows our commitment to the industry and reinforces our credibility as a long term strategic supplier for our customers.” ————————————————————————————————————————Gerald Schwartz President GSI The TexProcess Americas Show was a success as far as Gerald Schwartz Inc is concerned. It allowed us to visit with current customers and meet prospective accounts that was interested in our products. The Show was a Great Place to Network with many, many people, whether you are a Supplier, or a Manufacturer of Apparel Products. We had many people stop and ask questions. They were at the show for specific reasons with the decision maker standing in front of you. ————————————————————————————————————————Richard Schaftlein, Vice President Hickory Brands, Inc. I am only so sorry I missed the reception. Heard it was first class. I don’t know about anyone else……but I thought this show far exceeded the 2010 one. At least it was for Hickory Brands. I commend the job all of you at Seams did in organizing the event. -8- Productive Solutions Expanding Visibility and Opportunity for SEAMS Members Today’s successful leaders recognize the benefits of reaching outside their organization to gain the objective advice, specialized skills and on-demand solutions needed to more effectively manage, compete and grow their businesses. Each article of clothing made by Ralph Lauren, including opening and closing ceremony uniforms and Olympic Village gear, has been made by American craftsman and manufacturers in the United States, reports The Associated Press. Move up http://i.forbesimg.com t Move down During last year’s London Olympics, there was an uproar among Washington politicians over the fact that most U.S. Olympic gear was made in China. Forbes reported that House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi told reporters that the nation’s Olympic athletes “should be wearing uniforms that are made in America.” One U.S. senator even said he would rather have American athletes go naked than have them wear foreign-made uniforms. “I think they should take all the uniforms, put them in a big pile and burn them and start all over again,” Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) told reporters. “If they have to wear nothing but a singlet that says USA on it, painted by hand, then that’s what they should wear,” he added. Ralph Lauren Co. has apparently learned its lesson. “We have worked incredibly hard as a company to go across America to find the best partners to help us produce the Olympic uniforms at the highest quality for the best athletes in the world,” said company executive David Lauren. And it wasn’t easy. Lauren said he used more than 40 vendors, “from ranchers in the rural West to yarn spinners in Pennsylvania to sewers in New York’s Garment District.” The biggest challenge in moving production to the U.S., according to Lauren, was finding facilities that were able to produce the quantity and quality needed for the Olympic uniforms. As a result, there are fewer pieces in the Team USA Sochi Olympic uniforms. “What no one wanted to look at was the true complexity of making Olympic uniforms,” Lauren said about the controversy over the London Olympics uniforms. “We would have done it here if we could,” he added. “But it was so much more complicated than people realized. Lots of places said they could help us make them, but when we called them, they couldn’t. It was grandstanding by a lot of companies. But we have since found manufacturers, and there are many more out there and we will keep reaching out.” The closing ceremony uniforms, which include a navy pea coat with a red stripe, a ski sweater with a reindeer and an American flag, and a knit hat, were unveiled on The Today Show. -11- HAVE YOU HEARD?
