Secure Automation Stick (SAS) Sicherer, installationsloser Zugriff auf Automationsanlagen The Secure Automation Stick (SAS) is a central component of the ISONA Secure Automation System.
The Secure Automation Stick (SAS) allows a safe remote access to random plant visualisations or control systems from any Windows® PC or Mac®. This special USB drive requires no installation procedure or administrator permission and leaves no trace on the guest system as applications run in a shielded sandbox (isolated environment). The USB drive already contains all software needed by the operator to establish a secure VPN connection and access the automation infrastructure. Along with a password, the stick offers a highly secure two-factor authentication and is thus impervious to keylogger, virus or Trojan attacks. All Secure Automation Sticks are centrally managed and can be configured by the user without administrator support. A simple start-up and a convenient use reduce support requirements to a bare minimum. The USB drive may also be used by mobile service engineers for remote maintenance works as it allows to establish a transparent VPN tunnel. Unlike conventional VPN clients, no extensive client software installation on PC will be required. Only an open VPN service, very easily installed and requiring no IT support, is held available. The open VPN client is configured centrally through the Secure Automation Gateway (SAG), thus increasing safety as no sensible data is stored on the guest computer. Easy use: the Secure Automation Stick is connected to the USB port of a Windows PC or a Mac, thus prompting the execution of a start file on the USB drive. Autostart is possible too. After the password is entered, a window showing all approved connection profiles will be opened (cf. picture 1). Double-clicking on a connection will then run the corresponding client software. Though Firefox browser, RDP and VNC are available as clients on the USB drive, locally installed programs like Internet Explorer may also be used by a connection profile. Furthermore, almost any Windows client can be virtualised and run on the USB drive without installation, for example to access specific control systems.

A part of the USB drive contains integrated programs, the remaining storage area can be used to store data like any other USB drive.
