Serial # Firmware Rev. Set-up d= HL= ANACONDA DIGITAL DIMMER PACK: INSTRUCTION MANUAL OVERVIEW: The Anaconda portable dimmer pack is a microprocessor based digital dim / non-dim pack available in one of three basic types; a 4 x 600 watt, a 4 x 1200 watt, and a 6 x 800 watt package - all ratings are full duty cycle only. Many output and input options are available, but for the scope of this instruction, the pertinent details will cover all varieties. POWER INPUT: The unit comes standard with "Edison" type PBG input connector(s), or can be supplied with bare wire pig-tails for the end user to install their own connector. Input protection is achieved by the use of push-to-reset breakers located near power entry to the unit. Should an over current condition arise, the "button" of the circuit breaker will extend from the body indicating that it has tripped. It is very important that you determine what caused the over current situation before proceeding further!! FUNCTIONS: Upon powering up the unit, the LED screen will display software revision number (currently A10_) with the last number of the revision representing the number of channels in that particular package. The LED screen will then default to the dimmer assignment screen. GROUP DECODE: The default factory setting of the unit for dimmer assignment is group decode, or a sequential numerical progression beginning with whatever number the user selects as a starting point, i.e.: the LED screen displays "d" on the left side of the screen, and "1" on the right side to indicate that dimmer #1 is assigned to DMX channel #1. In the Group Decode screen, merely press the "Inc" or "Dec" button until the desired starting address is displayed. The Anaconda has now committed this to memory, and will retain this memory until told otherwise. SOFT-PATCHING: In more complex or sophisticated situations, digital soft-patching is an easy way to get around having to run yet another quarter mile of cable. To enable the soft-patching capability of the Anaconda, press the "Function Select" button on the left until "P off" is displayed. Push either the "Inc" or "Dec" buttons to toggle the screen to "P on" exhibiting the patching function has now been turned on. Using the "Function Select" button, return to the dimmer assignment screen which will now read a flashing "d" alternating with "1" on the left of the screen, and a "1" on the right. This new display represents dimmer output channel number one is soft-patched to DMX channel one. To change dimmer channel one to respond to a different DMX channel, press "Inc" or "Dec" until desired DMX channel # is displayed. To soft-patch dimmer output two, and so on, push the "Function Select" button to select the dimmer channel number and repeat the above. LEVEL SETTING: The factory default setting for this function is normally "off". To activate the level setting capability, push the "Function Select" button until the display reads "L off", pressing either the "Inc" or "Dec" buttons will toggle the display to "L on" indicating the level setting function is active. To employ level setting, press the "Function Select" button until "L1 0" appears (this is a brand new display which is automatically engaged when level setting is activated). To increase the level of dimmer one, press the "Inc" button, to decrease the level, press the "Dec" button. To set a level on the next dimmer, press the "Function Select" button and repeat the above. *IMPORTANT* Any levels set at any time are automatically entered into memory, and do not go away by themselves even if power is interrupted to the unit!! This allows the unit to be powered down and retain its memory of various preset levels. Three things may be done to return levels to zero when they are not needed. Firstly, toggle through the "Level" part of the menu and manually decrease all levels to zero. Secondly, go to the "L on" screen and toggle the level function "off". Thirdly, commit a "Hard Clear Memory" (covered later) to erase all memory and return the unit to factory default settings. This "Hard Clear" should not be engaged unless absolutely necessary. NON-DIM: If you have need of a non-dim (on / off only) DMX pack, follow this routine: 1. Press the "Reset" button. 2. When the Software Revision number comes up (A10_), press and hold buttons one and three (i.e.: "Function Select" and "Inc") until "d=4" appears. This may take a few tries. (If you have a six pack Anaconda, the display should read "d=6".) This screen is indicating the unit believes it is a 4- or 6-pack of dimmers. You probably noticed in there a screen that said d=5, d=7, d=12, and d=13. These are factory preset options which allow the Anaconda’s brain to do other things. Don’t concern yourself with these (setting your Anaconda brain to any of these other d #’s may disable dimmer channels). 3. Press the "Function Select" button until "nOff" appears. By pressing the "Inc" or "Dec" buttons, "n ON" is revealed, and the pack is now a non-dim DMX pack. To return to the main menu, press the "Reset" button again. Again, it is important to note that any memory changes such as the preceding will stay in memory forever and ever until you change them!! 4. You probably noticed in there a screen that said "HL_" (1,2, or 3). Don't mess with it!! This screen tells the "brain" how many AC "hot" legs are feeding the dimmer pack. If this number does not equal the number of pig tails coming out of your dimmer pack, you have been experiencing some rather strange problems and: (1.) Someone has been having a great deal of fun at your expense, or, (2.) Call the factory! That setting has no reason to change all by itself. To find out which of these is true, verify that "HL_" is now correct, unplug the unit, repeat the above procedures, and see if the "HL_" number is the same. If it is, you're cool and have no reason to worry. DEEP CLEAR RESET: Only use this function if you are sure you can afford to lose all memory that has been programmed into the unit, and return the dimmer to factory default settings!! To achieve deep clear reset, simultaneously press the "Function Select", "Inc", and "Dec" buttons until the screen displays ".rS.T". You now have the chance to back out if you're not sure you really want to do this. If you are, press buttons one and two (i.e.: "Function Select" and "Dec"), and the display should read "---". The dimmer is now clear of memory and ready to be programmed to your every whim and desire. DMX TERMINATION: Only the last device in the DMX chain should be terminated for any reason. The switch to the right of the LED screen on the Anaconda provides an internal 120 ohm resistor across DMX pins 2 and 3, there is no need for external "plug-in" type terminators. The switch should be in the up position for a non-terminated pack, and down for a terminated pack (i.e.: the last DMX device in the chain). NEUTRAL ERROR: If the Anaconda is mis-wired in any fashion, an error message will be displayed to warn participants of possible hazardous voltage conditions; the screen will read "nuEr". All power should be shut down immediately, until the problem or problems have been found and corrected. To release the unit from "nuEr" status, push the "reset" button, or remove and reapply power. The activation of this feature can be caused by mis-wired power receptacles or a voltage greater than 60VAC between Neutral and Ground. On units employing two power feeds, Neutrals are separate. "d 1" ("d" flashing) Soft-Patch screen, use "Inc" or "Dec" to assign DMX channels to dimmer outputs. "P ON" Soft-Patching function turned on. "POFF" Soft-Patching function turned off. "L ON" Level setting function turned on. "LOFF" Level setting function turned off. "_L00" _ dimmer is set at level "00". "_LFF" _ dimmer is set at level "FULL". "nuEr" Dimmer pack is mis-wired.
