CRASHES HAPPEN: IS YOUR DATA PROTECTED? Say goodbye to unreliable, time consuming and unsecure backup. ServaStor is a cloud backup service that uploads and stores your data off-site, to military encryption standards, at Servatechs UK data centres. Our world-leading software seamlessly includes multiple offices, on-the-road devices and virtualised environments, and can be complimented with our range of disaster recovery & IT continuity services to further secure your business. With over 15 years in the industry and a developed client portfolio, we are one of the strongest companies in the UK to provide backup and disaster recovery services to small, medium and enterprise customers. ServaStor supports multiple platforms: Features and Benefits ServaStor is a cloud backup service that uploads and stores your data off-site, to military encryption standards, at Servatech’s UK data centres. Your data backed up offsite – safe & secure Offsite backup – Data is automatically uploaded via ultra-secure internet tunnels to storage vaults at Servatech's two secure data centres. Secure – If FIPS 140-2 encryption is secure enough for the US Government and military, then it’s secure enough for us. Encryption takes place before data leaves your premises and can only be unencrypted using your unique encryption key. Safe – ServaStors autonomic healing software checks the consistency of your backup on a daily basis, referencing and repairing bad sectors from other copies of your data. Where autonomic healing isn’t possible, engineers are alerted so they can take immediate remedial action. Servatech has a 100% recovery record from its cloud backup infrastructure, including real and monthly test invocations. Easy file/directory restore – It’s vital to know you can restore data quickly and securely should you need to. ServaStor has one of the most intuitive and integrated file restore processes available. Simply get in touch with a Servatech engineer who will immediately restore the file or directory via the internet to its original or a new location. No tapes, no archive searching, no fuss. Autonomic healing – ServaStor automatically scans all stored data to ensure integrity, conducting autonomic healing where required. It checks links between encrypted data blocks and compares digital signatures for inconsistencies. Corrupted data is marked and a notification sent to your device re-requesting the original data. This ensures that data is always recoverable in the event of a disaster. Evolutionary features Backup anything, anywhere – ServaStor seamlessly includes head office, remote offices, laptops on the road, even smartphones and tablets. Data is automatically backed up to your offsite vault whenever anyone connects to the internet. It can also be restored through the same interface. Automatic: install it and forget it – Once configured, your system is completely automatic. No tapes or disks to change and no agents to distribute or manage. All monitoring, management and administration is handled by Servatech, enabling you to focus on your core business instead of the systems that keep it going. Multiple Operating Systems – ServaStor is compatible with all leading operating systems and virtualisation hypervisors. It uses APIs rather than installing agents on individual machines, is simple to manage in large environments and highly resource efficient - especially in virtual infrastructure. Disaster recovery/IT continuity – No-one can predict what kind of disaster might wipe out your locally stored data. Thankfully our world-class engineers can help you prepare for unforeseeable situations with rock-solid IT continuity services and disaster recovery planning, all of which can be tailored to your business and linked with your online data backup. License-less – ServaStor doesn’t use licensing, so adding new equipment, creating virtual machines or replacing redundant machines incurs no software cost. You only pay for what you choose to store. Faster backup – Backing up at super-fast LAN & disk speed means you can backup a lot more data in a lot less time. Upload scheduling & bandwidth throttling – Manage your uploads by throttling offsite backup speeds to suit your connection and/or scheduling them at convenient times of the day. ServaStor's primary offsite vault at Node 4 securely auto-replicates to Servatech's secure backup data centre. 4. Autonomic healing takes place daily. 3. Your encrypted delta changes are uploaded, through the internet, to ServaStor's secure offsite vaults at Node 4's ISO 27001 Data Centre, at a time and speed chosen by you. 2. Data changes are encrypted by your onsite vault to FIPS 140-2 standard. 1. The onsite vault collates data changes (either daily or continuously, depending on preferences) using delta change technology and operating system API's. Regular Backups 5. Regular backups and replications begin. 4. The first backup is incorporated into the ServaStor offsite vaults at our secure portion of the Leeds Node 4 data centre. A link is established with the customer's onsite vault. 3. Servatech takes the first backup and copies to removable media for offsite physical transfer (it's more efficient to physically transfer the first backup) 2. The onsite vault scans your system and provides a data analysis. Servatech provides multiple packages that can be appropriately scoped to your business which cover system rebuilds, temporary hosting and failover infrastructure, as well as disaster procedure development. Disaster Recovery 4. You can utilise unlimited file/directory restores at no extra cost through your Servatech managed service. 3. How ServaStor works Regulatory Compliance Your data is the lifeblood of your business. It can be business critical, sensitive and include private, financial or personal information. On top of this, you might be under strict sector-specific regulations to ensure data doesn’t fall into the wrong hands. This is where ServaStor and its parent company Servatech can assist. Maximum protection Sector-specific requirements You can count on ServaStor for maximum data protection, both in flight and at rest. We use one of the most advanced data encryption methods in the world (FIPS 140-2) and data can only be decrypted by the customer. Servatech has long experience of working with companies from a broad range of sectors, especially those with sector-specific data protection requirements. These include - For extra peace of mind, Servatech uses a high security ISO 27001 data centre. All data is held within a secure environment on resilient and high performing Huawei servers. Our data centres benefit from advanced security systems. ServaStor also simplifies secure data management. Sensitive data can be destroyed after set cut-off points with data destruction certificates provided as required. We’re happy to sign nondisclosure agreements and cater for bespoke security requests. • Legal Services • Healthcare • Charities and membership organisations • Professional services and consultants • Financial Services • Manufacturing Most IT compliance requirements fall into four key categories. The following table shows how ServaStor addresses each one of these. How ServaStor Addresses Compliance Requirements. The IT compliance requirements for most of regulations/standards can be categorized into four key sections. The table below shows how ServaStor addresses each one of them. Category of compliance How ServaStor addresses • Privacy/confidentiality of information • Data is encrypted (AES 256, 196, 128-bit), before being transmitted over the WAN. - Protect data from unauthorized disclosure. - Implies technologies such as encryption and access control to restrict access to data. • Data stored in the offsite vault and/or BLM is encrypted. • Encryption is FIPS 140-2 certified • Access control to data with full audit trail and reporting logs • Integrity of data - Protect data from unauthorized modification ensuring its accuracy. - Implies technologies such as encryption and access control (authentication). - Integrity checks. - Audit trails (logging system events and physical access). • Availability of information - Ensure that information is available when needed through business and service uptime assurance. • Data is encrypted (AES 256, 196, 128-bit), before being transmitted over the WAN. • Data is stored encrypted. • Encryption is FIPS 140-2 certified • Access control to data with full audit trail and reporting logs • Data integrity validation through Autonomic Healing and Restore Validation • N+1 and grid architecture ensures high availability through failover in case of system disruptions • Disk based retention for fastest recovery - Data protection. • Automated and verifiable backup/recovery process with built-in SLA module for reporting and auditing purposes. - Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery technologies and plans. • Built-in data replication capability for DS-System and BLM storage enables emergency plans for business continuity • ServaStor’s architecture implements fast and reliable backup/recoveries at off-site location for DR purposes. • ServaStor’s Value Beyond Software provides best practices and support for Business Continuity plans and Disaster Recovery Drills implementation and auditing purposes. • Retention - Preservation of information in an unalterable form for specified periods of time. - With or without requirements for data destruction. - Ability to set policies and manage the lifecycle of data. • ServaStor’s BLM provides long term disk based retention with data destruction certificates. • Intuitive GUI makes it easy to implement and manage retention rules and policies. • Long term data is stored encrypted. How does it compare? Once you’ve tried ServaStor, you’ll never want to return to archaic tape-based backup and restoration. Here’s why... V Safe & secure ServaStor ServaStor’s offsite vault is located on fault-resilient hardware and autoreplicated to a separate data centre for extra resilience. In addition to your live working copy, ServaStor keeps three further copies of your data in geographically separate locations. ServaStor also uses autonomic healing to constantly check and fix data integrity with an alert system to notify engineers if auto-fix isn’t possible. Data is further protected by a managed backup service; an engineer checks your backup every morning. Data is encrypted both in flight and at rest and held securely in the offsite vaults. Data is encrypted and immediately transferred offsite. ServaStor is fully automated; no client side daily maintenance is required. Tape Tape is a fragile, optical media. Data can easily be corrupted or lost. Backup failures can go undetected. Tape is often unencrypted and unsecure. If put in the wrong hands, data could be easily accessed. Often, data isn’t removed to an offsite location until the following day. Sophisticated tape schedules can still be disrupted due to tape drive failure, tape capacity, sickness, holidays and manual error. How does it compare? Once you’ve tried ServaStor, you’ll never want to return to archaic tape-based backup and restoration. Here’s why... Saves time & money ServaStor Single/small files can be located easily and restored remotely or through a single console. Tape 95% of requests to recover lost data are for small files or documents. These take at least 30 minutes if not longer as the tape has to be located, reinstalled and data restored. V Extra features ServaStor ServaStor is fully automated, eliminating the risk of human error. All data is up to date and safely backed up offsite, even multi-site data. We even check customers backups every morning to be extra sure, all as part of your package Tape ‘Last one out changes the tape’ policy runs the risk of backup not being performed. ServaStor identifies new or revised data, ignoring duplicate data, dramatically reducing data backup time. Tape solutions usually backup your entire data set every time, making backup time-consuming and problematic. Laptops can be automatically backed up as soon as the user connects to the network or internet Backing up laptops is problematic, especially where users regularly disconnect from the corporate network. Granular user permissions can be set to allow users to recover their own files. Data recovery is time-consuming and labour-intensive. ServaStor permits multiple backup and recovery tasks to run concurrently. Backups can’t be carried out during a recovery or vice versa. Recoveries often need to be conducted outside office hours during evenings and weekends. Agentless technology means that no software is installed on servers or user computers, making installation and support much simpler and further reducing scheduled downtimes Backups require special server software to be installed making installations and upgrades resource intensive. Staff/IT personnel simply register a call with Servatech and we perform the data recovery remotely, during office hours, taking minutes. (IT personnel can also conduct restores themselves if desired) Data is stored offsite and recovered quickly online. Offsite tapes must be retrieved to allow recovery. Disaster Recovery Plans No-one can predict disasters. But you can take measures to keep your business running through one. Most businesses take out business income insurance for short term cover. But in reality, data loss or mid-to-long term IT inoperability can cause huge business shortfalls. As a result, your customers may take custom elsewhere, seriously impacting the future of your business. Every company has different requirements and the level of planning and cover required varies significantly. This is why Servatech takes a bespoke approach to ensure that whatever disaster recovery solution you choose is exactly the right fit. Data Provision - Basic ServaStor is the perfect way to safeguard your critical data so if the worst happens it’s easily retrievable. Off-site disaster recovery Other disaster recovery options For an even faster return to ‘business as usual’, or for a geographically dispersed workforce, Servatech can generate and spin up virtual servers based on copies of your last data backup. Application based replication Hosted in our secure data centre, virtual servers can be accessed by designated users over the internet wherever they are – in the office, at a temporary location or at home. Because our virtual servers work alongside ServaStor, there’s no need to buy additional hardware. Instead, for a small fixed monthly fee, you can recover anything from your entire IT Infrastructure right down to a single server. Data provision is included with ServaStor as standard, without adding any disaster recovery options to it. So, in the event that a system rebuild or large amount of data is required, Servatech will deliver your data, via removable media, to your chosen location. Servatech’s virtualised platform removes the expense and technical complexity of providing your own disaster recovery infrastructure. Our long established partnerships with Microsoft, VMware, Citrix, HP and Cisco plus years of industry experience has resulted in a multitenancy platform that offers impressive performance and scalability. Onsite disaster recovery Off-site high availability recovery We can provide a combination of services that wrap around the safe delivery of your data, catering for a return to operation on site or at a temporary location. Our bespoke services include: Where even a few hours of downtime isn’t an option, we can provide a ‘live’ replication of your servers and systems at our data centre. Your backup systems would be accessible within an hour, complete with a copy of your last received data. • Procedure planning • Hardware replacement • Engineering cover • Workplace relocation • Disaster management • Risk analysis • Testing and rehearsal • Specific project management Designated users can access your systems securely over the internet, anywhere in the world. So you’re up and running again in no time, with minimal disruption to ongoing business. Servatech’s virtualised disaster recovery platform is designed to save you considerable time and money. We can provide offsite, always-on, active-active or failover configurations for a range of enterprise applications (for example Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft SQL Server), all of which can be carried out via native replication capabilities or by using additional third party replication applications. Internal SAN based replication For whatever reason, whether for compliance or internal policy, you might not want your critical data to leave your network, preferring instead to ‘own’ the entire solution. In these cases, Servatech can provide SAN based data mirroring, replication, failover and data snapshotting between single sites, campuses or geographically diverse locations. Working with some of the world’s best storage companies we can design, supply, install and support storage solutions to meet your needs perfectly. Our on-going relationships with Asigra, Veeam, Doubletake and Symantec ensure that the very best of breed applications allow us to build the perfect disaster recovery and replication solution for your business. Case Study Hewlett Hewlett Civil Engineering is a nationwide construction and civil engineering company with three UK offices, a workforce of over 450 and two construction training schools. Servatech have been providing IT services and consultancy since 2007. factored this into our budget. We needed a secure service that wouldn’t cost us the earth and this is what ServaStor delivered.” ServaStor in practice ServaStor is the most recent addition to an IT infrastructure that has the capacity to power such a large civil engineering company. ServaStor provides incremental backup to their main training site in Leeds as well as their on-the-road laptop fleet. Before ServaStor Prior to ServaStor, Hewlett conducted daily backups to a physical backup server. John Spear, Financial Director of Hewlett, explains: “Back in 2006 when we installed the server we assumed we had stacks of capacity, but within two years we had filled it up, so we had to look at a full hardware upgrade. However we hadn’t From the start, ServaStor stood out as the clear solution. As John explains: “Servatech host ServaStor in a private cloud eliminating the need for large capital expenditure. ServaStor is also much more efficient than the old system which used to take full backups every time. After the initial backup ServaStor adds data incrementally, using much less storage.” The company also benefits from a far more extensive backup history, requiring no staff resource on their part. Also, because transfers are scheduled overnight, Hewlett is able to maximise its internet and network bandwidth throughout the day. “ServaStor just chugs away in the background with minimal input from us.” “As well as needing little capital investment, we have freed up our backup server which has now been redeployed” “We’ve had to use ServaStor fairly recently – one of my employees email inbox’s corrupted. Servatech restored it from backup - it went trouble free” John Spear, Financial Director, Hewlett Civil Engineering Case Study Polypal Polypal is an international market leader in storage and shelving solutions for the retail industry. Servatech has been managing their IT infrastructure for over a decade, catering for all Polypal’s day-to-day IT needs. Consultation Servatech guided Polypal through a range of options including a tape auto loader, server replication and several types of backup software. ServaStor, powered by Asigra, stood out as the best option. Servatech provide consultancy to Polypal on IT strategy development and are fully responsible for implementing that strategy. Polypal has recently upgraded their backup to ServaStor. Before ServaStor Prior to the ServaStor install, Polypal used traditional LTO tape backup. Dave McQueen, Polypal’s Managing Director, says that this presented them with a number of problems. “Our system had outgrown the capacity of our tapes, therefore archiving in safe storage became unmanageable and expensive. Also, the reliability of the tapes decreased with age. When we needed to restore, the process was inefficient and we didn’t have the same range of backup points.“ As Dave says: “With the industry moving towards off-site, real time backup, I couldn’t see any benefit in investing in yesterday’s technology. I felt sure our budget would be far better spent on ServaStor, a future-proof solution that brings modern benefits to the table.” ServaStor in practice “Servatech were great during the consultation process and did all the legwork. Once in place it wasn’t long before we needed to call on ServaStor to restore a critical file – a drawing that one of our team had deleted in error. Thankfully within minutes of calling Servatech the file was restored to its original directory, saving us hours of remedial work.” ServaStor produces daily, weekly and monthly snapshots and Polypal now has incremental backup covering the entire year. With an up-to-date, reliable and secure backup being stored at several geographically separate locations, Polypal’s business critical data is safe and secure. “ServaStor is a reliable real-time, offsite backup & restore system which costs us the same as maintaining yesterday’s technology” “Servatech offered us a free trial – even the installation and equipment was included. We were so impressed that we took up ServaStor before the trial finished” Dave McQueen, Managing Director, Polypal Case Study England Basketball England Basketball is the national governing body for basketball in England. Servatech has been providing England Basketball with IT services for over seven years as well as developing their IT infrastructure. ServaStor was installed to replace their failing tape solution – they felt the benefits straight away. ServaStor Free Trial Chris felt that ServaStor offered “a much stronger proposition” for their organisation. What’s more, Servatech were offering a free one-month trial. “ServaStor was installed quickly, just before my holiday,” says Chris. “At the end of the trial its benefits were so obvious that we didn’t hesitate to sign up.” ServaStor in practice Before ServaStor Before they moved to ServaStor, England Basketball relied on traditional tape backup, but were rapidly outgrowing the capacity of their tape drive. As Office Manager Chris Brown explains: “It got to the point where we were being selective about what we backed up - so much so that, in a disaster, we would have lost critical information.” The situation reached crisis point when Chris took a fortnight’s leave. “I was the only person that managed the schedule,” he continues, “and we couldn’t afford two weeks without a backup. Not only was ServaStor the right solution, but Servatech could have it up and running in just a couple of days”. “Because ServaStor is run by the engineers at Servatech, it gives us much more peace of mind,” says Chris. “It’s also more robust and reliable. Also, because I no longer have to manage the tapes, I’m free to focus on more productive activities.” Each morning Chris gets a confirmation that the backup has been successful. He also knows that a restore of any level is just a phone call away. “Much of our data is sensitive – so ServaStor’s strong security is important. Plus, because there are no licensing costs, we saved a fortune when it came to upgrading our infrastructure. Replacement equipment was included in the backup with minimal fuss.” And the service they receive from Servatech? “It’s always been excellent,” concludes Chris. “ Engineers respond promptly and professionally, and their expertise has shone through on many occasions.” “ServaStor saved us a fortune in licensing costs when we upgraded our server equipment” “It’s good to know that our backup is in the hands of Servatech engineers. Tape rotations are a thing of the past now.” Chris Brown, Office Manager, England Basketball About Servatech New to cloud backup? Don’t worry; it’s not new to us. S Ser vate ch TOT A L I T M A N A G E M E N T Providing Cloud Backup since 2006 Our first customer using technology ‘powered by Asigra’ came on board in 2006. All our own work Unlike many other companies that simply rent space from another provider, we built our storage from the ground up. ServaStor is based on some of the most advanced, secure and reliable data centre infrastructure in the UK. Using a combination of our on-site data centre and Node-4 in Normanton, our enterprise-level platform isn’t just robust; it’s within easy distance of many of our clients. In other words, you can be confident in the location, security and safety of your data. And, naturally, we can return it to you quickly when you need it most. We’re close to you Bang in the centre of Yorkshire, Servatech couldn't be more conveniently located. Of course it goes without saying that our service management system is world-leading, our engineers are at our disposal, and that we react quickly. But when you've been around as long as we have, that's the kind of thing you'd expect, making us one of the most versatile, accessible and responsive IT partners in the UK. Secure Data Centres ServaStor doesn’t just benefit from unrivalled software security. Highly specified Data Centre Your backup is located at one of the most secure data centres in the region - Node 4, a resilient ISO 27001 data centre, based in Normanton, West Yorkshire. ServaStor uses a securely separated portion of the Data Centre, which we’ve fitted out with Servatech’s own high spec Huawei hardware. Read on to see how we give you industry-leading assurance about the physical protection and high availability of your data. Resilient Auto-Failover Power, Connectivity & Cooling In the event of a mains power failure, the resilient power backup system (delivered by N+1 generator backup, 6 x UPS 'A' feed and 6 x UPS 'B' feeds (N+N)) seamlessly takes over to ensure that there is a consistent source of power. The data centre is carrier neutral and also benefits from being part of a core MPLS network with resilient connections to Telehouse, Global Switch and Telecity. The environment itself is fully monitored and implements 3 Pairs of 330KW N+1 Airedale water cooled chillers with N+N air handlers reducing the energy consumption and carbon emissions of the air conditioning units. Fire Suppression System How secure is secure? With advanced security systems that are monitored by highly trained staff, round the clock, we take the physical protection of your data very seriously indeed. Our Primary Data Centre has 24/7 manned security with monitored CCTV on all internal and external entry and exit points, as well as between rack isles. Perimeter fencing surrounds the site, and entry and exit is strictly monitored via an anti-tailgating pod and a photo ID swipe system. S Ser vate ch TOT A L I T M A N A G E M E N T As you would expect, the Node 4 data centre offers the latest in fire protection. The FM200 suppression VESDA system alerts staff at the earliest possible sign of fire by continually drawing air into a pipe network attached to a detector unit on the wall. If a fire is detected, canisters of inert gas, connected to a datacentre wide distribution system, are on standby to extinguish. Even your backup is backed up You want rock-solid reassurance that your data will remain secure yet readily accessible, whenever you need it. This is exactly why we've invested so heavily in a resilient infrastructure to ensure you get this peace of mind. But what happens if, for some unlikely reason, disaster strikes ServaStor's primary data centre? We've thought of this, too. All data is continually replicated to a second secure facility at our own site in Wakefield. Like the primary data centre, it benefits from 24/7 monitored security, secure ID access, perimeter fencing, auto-failover systems and reinforced housing. Our engineers can access either site within a very short space of time. So, in the event of large amounts of data being required quickly, your data can be brought straight to you via removable storage. Engineers, Service Desk & SLAs Years of experience and continuous investment, ready to be deployed when you need it most. Servatech has an excellent pedigree “We've been in the IT business for 15 years, during which time we've grown to serve some of the region's largest enterprise businesses as well as a strong foundation of SME clients.
