This manual describes how to physically install the following Server adapters: SCOM, Quadro, S2M, DIVA Server BRI-2M, and DIVA Server PRI. NOTE: If you need help installing the Server adapter software, see the Server Adapters User’s Guide or the online manual for the corresponding software. Requirements To install your server adapter, you need: • A free expansion slot in the computer. The slot’s bus type must be the same as the adapter’s bus type (ISA/EISA, MCA, or PCI). • One or four ISDN basic rate interface lines or an ISDN primary rate interface line, as required by your adapter. • Some users in North America and Japan also require a network terminating device (NT1). Complete information on this requirement appears under the step “Connect your ISDN line” for each respective Server adapter. Important Before you install your adapter, read the regulatory information specific to your country in “International Regulatory Information” on page 26. Note that the sections for countries other than your own can also provide useful safety information. Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 5 3 - For Your Safety To avoid injuring yourself, and to avoid damaging your ISDN adapter and your computer, read these precautions before you start the installation: • Before you add or remove any components, turn off the power to your computer. • Before you remove the cover from your computer, disconnect the power cable. • Before you install your adapter or remove the cover from your computer for any reason, disconnect the ISDN cable from the ISDN network. • Adapter cards, as well as other computer components, are easily damaged by static electricity. Leave the adapter in its protective case until you are ready to install it. Before you remove the adapter from its protective case, drain static electricity from your body by touching the metal chassis of your computer. Also, avoid carpets, synthetic shoes, and synthetic chairs since they can create static charges. • When you install the adapter, avoid touching components that have sharp edges. • When you secure the adapter, make sure that the connectors on the adapter do not touch any other components in your computer. • Avoid dropping screws or any other components into your computer as this could damage the motherboard or cause short circuits. • Make sure that you have the proper tools needed to install the adapter. For more information, refer to the documentation that came with your computer. • Insert the adapter only into a slot that has the corresponding bus type. Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 6 4 - DIVA Server BRI-2M The DIVA Server BRI-2M is a Plug and Play adapter and therefore requires no hardware configuration. All hardware settings are set through software. 1 Prepare the computer Turn off the computer, disconnect its power cable and remove its cover according to the instructions in your computer’s manual. 2 Install the adapter Insert the DIVA Server BRI-2M into an expansion slot of the appropriate bus type (ISA/EISA, or PCI). Only the ISA model can be installed in an EISA slot (see step 3, below). Then, secure the adapter to the chassis of the computer using the bracket-retaining screw. Replace the cover of the computer and reconnect the power cable. 3 Configure the EISA bus computer (if you installed the ISA model of DIVA Server BRI-2M in an EISA bus computer) This step is only required if you installed the ISA model of DIVA Server BRI-2M into an EISA slot. To complete the installation, make sure your operating system can find and communicate with the adapter. Start the EISA configuration utility (ECU), select the slot where you inserted the adapter, and click “Add adapter”. When prompted for the configuration file, specify the !gdi0009.cfg file, located on the ISDN Software Suite CD-ROM under \dos\server\install\bri_2m\!gdi0009.cfg. Then, define the resources of the adapter. For supported values, see Technical Specifications on page 24. Note: For more information on configuring an EISA bus computer, see your computer’s manual. 4 Connect your ISDN line Depending on your geographic location, you may need a network terminating device (NT1). You can obtain an NT1 from Eicon Technology or from another supplier. If an external NT1 is not required: 1. Take the cable included with the adapter. ISDN wall jack with NT Server adapter 2. Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 8 5 - SCOM The SCOM/2 is the MCA model of the SCOM adapter. The SCOM/2 does not require you to set any hardware resources. 1 Prepare the computer Turn off the computer, disconnect its power cable and remove its cover according to the instructions in your computer’s manual. 2 Set the memory address (ISA model only) The SCOM is shipped with the shared memory address set to D000h. This address only needs to be changed if it is used by another card in the computer. To change the address, adjust the DIP switches. Each switch can be set on or off independently. The on position is indicated on the switch panel. For example, in Figure 3, switches 6 and 8 are set to off and the rest are set to on. Make sure switches 1, 2, and 7 are set to on, and switch 8 is set to off. Use switches 3, 4, 5 and 6 to select the address as indicated in the table below. # Address ON 1 SD 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Figure 3. Memory windows are areas of contiguous memory which fall somewhere within one of three 128k memory group addresses (A000-BFFF, C000-DFFF, and E000-FFFF). If such a card is installed in your computer, the entire 128k memory group which contains its memory window is unavailable. For example, if you have a LAN card using a memory window at C800-CFFF, the Server adapter could not use any address in the range C000-DFFF. You may be able to resolve conflicts by configuring 16-bit cards as 8-bit cards. Check the manufacturer’s documentation for details. Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 9 SCOM 3 Set the interrupt request level (ISA model only) The adapter is shipped with the interrupt request level, or IRQ, set to 3. This setting only needs to be changed if it is used by another card in the computer. In Figure 4 the jumper is shown selecting IRQ 3. You may be able to make additional IRQs available by disabling PC ports. Consult your computer’s manual for information. 4 Install the adapter Insert the SCOM into an expansion slot of the appropriate bus type: ISA/ EISA (only the ISA model can be inserted into an EISA slot), or MCA. Secure it to the chassis of the computer using the bracket-retaining screw. Replace the cover of the computer and reconnect the power cable. 5 Configure the EISA or MCA bus computer (if you installed the SCOM adapter in an EISA bus computer or an MCA bus computer) This step is only required if you installed the ISA model of the SCOM adapter in an EISA bus computer, or if you installed the MCA model of the SCOM adapter in an MCA computer. Make sure your computer operating system can find and communicate with the adapter. Follow the appropriate instructions for your bus type. • EISA bus computer Start the EISA configuration utility (ECU), select the slot where you inserted the adapter, and click “Add adapter”. When prompted for the configuration file, specify the !gdi0003.cfg file, located on the ISDN Software Suite CD-ROM under \dos\server\install\scom\!gdi0003.cfg. Then, define the resources of the adapter. For supported values, see Technical Specifications on page 24. For more information on configuring an EISA bus computer, see your computer’s manual. • MCA bus computer Update the Micro Channel reference disk (included with your computer) by copying the configuration file to it. The configuration file (@6a93.adf) is located on the ISDN Software Suite CD-ROM under \dos\server\install\scom\@6a93.adf. For more information about the reference disk, see your computer’s manual. Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 11 SCOM The SCOM has three ports: RJ-45, for connection to a standard ISDN BRI line; RJ-11, for the X-interface used in Germany; and DB-9, for a custom ISDN telephone handset (available from Eicon Technology as part 600-245). SCOM Ports Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 12 6 - Quadro 1 Prepare the computer Turn off the computer, disconnect its power cable and remove its cover according to the instructions in your computer’s manual. 2 Set the memory address The Quadro is shipped with the shared memory address set to D000h. Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 13 Quadro The bottom row of pins is not used. The pins to the far right (closest to the bracket) is used for IRQ 2. As you move left, the pins represent the next higher supported IRQ (see Technical Specifications on page 24). You may be able to make additional IRQs available by disabling PC ports. The Quadro has four ports for connecting to four separate ISDN BRI lines. You can use any port; typically, you must specify the port number during software configuration. The port numbers are shown in Figure 12. The diagrams is oriented with the edge connector pointing downward. Note: When loading the CAPI 1.1 or CAPI 2.0 on the Quadro adapter the ports are counted in a different manner. For CAPI 1.1 they are counted from 0 to 3 and for CAPI from 1 to 4. Quadro Ports Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 15 7 - DIVA Server PRI The basic DIVA Server PRI has two DSPs (digital-signal processors) with 33 MIPS each which manage digital transmissions via HDLC for 30/23 B-channels. The adapter is available either in this basic version or with additional modules which are described below. Adding modules enables additional features, such as group 3 fax, modem, or GSM over the B-channels. NOTE: This adapter can only be used with DIVA for Windows NT 2.01 and higher, or DOS drivers 5.03e and higher. The following DIVA Server PRI types are available: DIVA Server PRI adapter Description DIVA Server PRI Active ISDN PCI adapter for the PRI. DIVA Server PRI-9M one module Active ISDN PCI adapter for the PRI with 9 DSPs for modem/fax communications over 7 B-channels. DIVA Server PRI-23M 3 modules Active ISDN PCI adapter for the PRI with 23DSPs for modem/fax communications over 21(E1) or 23(T1) B-channels. DIVA Server PRI-30M 4 modules Active ISDN PCI adapter for the PRI with 30 DSPs for modem/fax communications over 30 B-channels. The DIVA Server PRI needs up to 20 Watts of power. If you have several adapters installed in your system, make sure that the power supply will not be overloaded when you install the DIVA Server PRI. PRI signals can have telephone network voltages (TNV). Therefore, PRI lines should be installed and maintained by service personnel only. It may be hazardous if your computer is not properly plugged in and grounded. This applies particularly to users in North America and Australia. To install the DIVA Server PRI: 1 Prepare the computer Turn off the computer, disconnect its power cable and remove its cover according to the instructions in your computer’s manual. 2 DIVA Server PRI model 800-217-02 only: Verify the jumper setting The default jumper settings are shown below. Make sure that the adapter does not touch the CPU, memory modules, or any other parts on the motherboard. ATX boards usually have enough space. Note: If space does not permit the use of the retainer, simply remove it, and then insert the card. The retainer is only an installation aid and does not add functionality to the card. Secure the adapter to the chassis of the computer using the bracket-retaining screw. Replace the cover of the computer and reconnect the power cable. 4 Connect your ISDN line PRI signals can have telephone network voltages (TNV). Therefore, PRI lines should be installed and maintained by service personnel only. It may be hazardous if your computer is not properly plugged in and grounded. This applies particularly to users in North America and Australia. The DIVA Server PRI has a built-in CSU (channel service unit) to protect the adapter from damage due to power surges. However, you can also use an external CSU, which allows you to test your ISDN line. Use one of the cables included with the adapter to connect it to the ISDN line. The cable for the connection is supplied in two different versions: • RJ-45 to RJ-45 • RJ-45 to open-ended cables for connection to your NT. The cable you use depends on whether the ISDN line was installed with an RJ-45 jack or uses open-ended wire connections. Connecting your ISDN line If the ISDN line uses open-ended wire connections: In some cases, you may be required to connect to your network termination using the open-ended connectors. The transmission (TX) and receiving (RX) leads are identified by the color of the leads; transmission leads are blue and white-blue, receiving leads are orange and white-orange. Transmit+ (TX +) foil shield Note: If your NT or external CSU is turned on while your computer is connected to the ISDN network and the DIVA Server PRI is not connected or the wiring is wrong, a layer 1 warning light appears at the switching center of the network provider. If you are using an external CSU, a warning light appears on the CSU as well. The network provider will then deactivate the ISDN line. If this occurs, you must contact your network provider to re-enable your line. Server Adapters Hardware Installation Guide ◆ Page 18 DIVA Server PRI LEDs on the DIVA Server PRI If you are having problems with your DIVA Server PRI, the LEDs on the bracket of the adapter can help you diagnose and solve the problems. Consult your computer’s manual for information. 4 Install the adapter Insert the adapter into an expansion slot of the appropriate bus type: ISA/EISA (only the ISA model can be inserted into an EISA slot), or MCA. Secure it to the chassis of the computer using the bracket-retaining screw. Replace the cover of the computer and reconnect the power cable. 5 Configure the EISA or MCA bus computer (if you installed the S2M adapter in an EISA bus computer or an MCA bus computer) This step is only required if you installed the ISA model of the S2M adapter in an EISA bus computer, or if you installed the MCA model of the S2M adapter in an MCA computer. Make sure your computer’s operating system can find and communicate with the adapter. Follow the appropriate instructions for your bus type. • EISA bus computer Start the EISA configuration utility (ECU), select the slot where you inserted the adapter, and click “Add adapter”. When prompted for the configuration file, specify the !gdi0005.cfg file, located on the ISDN Software Suite CD-ROM under \dos\server\install\s2m\!gdi0005.cfg. Then, define the resources of the adapter. For supported values, see Technical Specifications on page 24. Proper installation of the ISDN card requires that the ISDN card is screwed to the metal backplate of the computer. This ensures proper grounding, which is necessary for your safety. If it is subsequently desired to open the host equipment for any reason, the ISDN cord(s) must be disconnected prior to effecting access to the ISDN communications card. Installation Within a Spare Slot Position It is essential that, when other option cards are introduced which use or generate a hazardous voltage, the minimum creepages and clearances specified in the table below are maintained. Suitable user protection to ensure compliance with EN 60950 should be present on the card. A hazardous voltage is one which exceeds 42.4V peak a.c or 60V d.c. If you have any doubt, seek advice from a competent engineer before installing other adapters into the host equipment. The user should check that the total power drawn by the host computer, the Server Adapter, and any other peripherals, must not exceed the capability of the host Power Supply Unit.
