Indesit Company HEALTH AND SAFETY For the servicing of refrigeration products, containing R134a refrigerant. These instructions are in addition to any other Company procedures already published. Published primarily for Indesit Company engineers working in the UK or Southern Ireland, for which these instructions are MANDATORY. General 1. This manual is not intended as a comprehensive repair/maintenance guide to the appliance. 2. It should only be used by suitably qualified persons having technical competence, applicable product knowledge, suitable tools and test equipment. 3. Servicing of electrical appliances must be undertaken with the appliance disconnected. (unplugged from the electrical supply). 4. Servicing must be preceded by earth continuity and insulation checks. 5. Personal safety precautions must be taken to protect against accidents caused by sharp edges on metal and plastic parts. 6. After servicing, the appliance must be rechecked for electrical safety. Refrigerant R134a - Safe Handling - Transporting & Storage 1. Work areas should be well ventilated and any immediate heat sources turned off. 2. Do not smoke where there is a possibility of refrigerant in the atmosphere. Customer/s should also be advised. 3. Cylinders must not have heat applied, or stand close to a heat source, and should be stored out of direct sunlight. 4. Should a sudden release of refrigerant occur, open windows or outside doors in the immediate vicinity, then evacuate for a few minutes. 5. It is illegal to intentionally vent R134a refrigerant to atmosphere. Follow the company procedure on collection and reclamation. 6. If a leak is identified the appliance must be repaired immediately if possible. 7. Where it is not possible to repair the appliance immediately the customer should be advised: Appliance should be turned off and the refrigerant recovered. 8. Returned compressors must be sealed to prevent the escape of oil and refrigerant. Refer to the Environmental responsibilities for service engineers in your Health and Safety booklet. 9. Cylinders (R134a) being transported must be in an upright position on the floor of the vehicle and prevented from movement. 10. A green compressed gas label Part No. 8100062 should be displayed on the rear of the vehicle.

Indesit Company MODEL INTRODUCTION The models included in this publication are 1765 mm high Side by Side no-frost Fridge Freezers that were introduced in July 2007. All models are similar with regard to the furniture design, but there are variations for exterior colour. Models MSZ801DF, MSZ802DF, MSZ803DF and MSZ806DF interior: The interior of the fridge has safety glass shelves, one meat drawer (chiller) and one humidity controlled salad bin (crisper) with a glass cover. The door has two deep shelf, dairy shelf with a lid, a commodity shelf and lower bottle shelf. The interior of the freezer section has two drawers of varying sizes, two safety glass shelves of varying sizes and ice cube maker. The door has four commodity shelves of varying sizes. For banding and colour information, refer to the Front Cover and or Specifications page. The appliance is “no-frost” design so defrosting is automatic. All models have wheels at the rear and wheels / adjustable feet at the front. The digital display interface module (7 ~ segment LED) is mounted in the front of the freezer door with the drinks dispenser, the fast freeze button and ice maker controls are also mounted in the same area. The fridge and freezer temperature settings are adjusted by selecting the + / - buttons next to the relevant temperature display window. All functions are monitored and actioned by the power module mounted at the rear of the appliance within the compressor compartment. The climate class is N / ST signifying that it is designed to operate in ambient temperatures between +16°C to +38°C. As with many refrigeration appliances, it is important that it is installed and operated within the recommended ambient temperature range and that there is adequate ventilation. All appliances equipped with an automatic ice-maker and water dispenser must be connected to a water supply that only delivers drinking water. See specification page for pressure requirements.

Locate the water filter cartridge cap below the freezer compartment door. Rotate the cap counter clockwise to a vertical position and pull the cap and filter cartridge out through the base grille. Note: Since there is water in the cartridge, some spilling may occur.

Remove the cartridge cap by sliding it off the end of the old cartridge. DO NOT DISCARD THE CAP.
3.
Take the new cartridge out of its packaging and remove the protective cover from the o-rings. Make a note of the installation date in the space provided on the new cartridge.
4.
Slide the cartridge cap onto the new cartridge.
5.
With the cartridge cap in the vertical position, push the new filter cartridge into the base grille until it stops. Rotate the cartridge cap clockwise to a horizontal position.
6.
RUN WATER THROUGH THE DISPENSER UNTIL THE WATER RUNS CLEAR (about 9-14 litres or 6-7 minutes). This will clean the system and clear air from the lines. Note: As air is cleared from the system, water may spurt out of the dispenser.

DESCRIPTION Freezer temperature adjust / select
FUNCTION ~ This function allows you to adjust the displayed temperature. To adjust the temperature press the relevant + / - button until the required freezer temperature is displayed on the left.

Super freeze
~ This function activates the super freeze (fast freeze) so fresh food can be frozen. To enable press until the super freeze symbol appears on the Display. It will automatically disable after 48 hours or when the button is pressed again.

Stand-by function ~ This function turns off the refrigerator and freezer compartments to enable press and hold for 3 seconds: the display will go out and a dash will appear on the left display. To disable press and hold for 3 seconds: the display will return to the previous set temperatures.

Reset
~ This function can be used in the event of an alarm when an acoustic signal and relevant indicator lights are activated. To disable the acoustic alarm signal press the reset button.

Fridge temperature adjust / select
~ This function allows you to adjust the displayed temperature. To adjust the temperature press the relevant + / - button until the required fridge temperature is displayed on the right.

Holiday function
~ This function allows the fridge compartment to be deactivated if the user is going away for sometime, the fridge will maintain adequate temperature for preventing the formation of odours, therefore not necessary to switch the appliance off.

~ This function locks the fridge and freezer controls. To lock press and hold both the super freeze and super cool buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds until the lock symbol appears in the display and is accompanied by an acoustic signal.

FUNCTION ~ This function switches on the dispenser light. To enable / disable press the button.

Stand-by function ~ This function turns off the ice maker. To enable the ice maker press and hold until the ice or crushed ice symbol is displayed. To disable the ice maker press and hold until the ice or crushed ice symbol is extinguished.

Ice mode function ~ This function allows you to select between ice cubes or crushed ice to be dispensed.

~ This function resets the water filter replacement time. Normally the water filter symbol is Green (Blue on some models). = Water Filter OK (Blue on some models) = Water Filter requires replacing soon. = Water Filter needs replacing.

Ice maker lock

Indesit Company DESCRIPTION OF FUNCTIONS Super freeze function ~ This enables and controls the compressor, condenser fan and evaporator fan to cool down the freezer compartment independently of the temperature settings set by the user. The super freeze function will end automatically after 48 hours after activation. Freezer Temperature
~ This can be adjusted and selected by the “+ / -“ buttons in the freezer section of the control interface. For each press of the relevant button you will increase / decrease the temperature setting by 1°C increments. The range is from -18°C (-17°C some models) to -24°C.
Freezer Door Alarm
~ The door alarm symbol lights up and the acoustic alarm is activated when the freezer door remains open. When the door is left open for more than 2 minutes, the symbol flashes and an acoustic signal sounds.
Fridge Door Alarm
~ The door alarm symbol lights up and the acoustic alarm is activated when the fridge door remains open. When the door is left open for more than 2 minutes, the symbol flashes and an acoustic signal sounds.
Fridge Temperature
~ This can be adjusted and selected by the “+ / -“ buttons in the fridge section of the control interface. For each press of the relevant button you will increase / decrease the temperature setting by 1°C increments. The range is from +2°C to +6°C.
Holiday Function
~ This enables and controls the fridge damper (baffle) and evaporator fan for the holiday mode. The evaporator fan is activated and the fridge damper (baffle) is opened for only 2 minutes. This process is repeated every 30 minutes while the holiday function is enabled.

Indesit Company COMPONENT FUNCTIONS General Information The power module is made up of a number of smaller individual modules (sections), each one controlling a functional component. The modules are linked together when required to control a particular function or functions. The linking of the individual modules is optional and therefore allows for each module to be switched ON or OFF, this is determined from the data stored or collected by the modules and the results of module comparisons. The power module memory stores information such as temperatures and times. Having individual set of parameter values built in to it, directly aimed at providing the specific control needs for the physical and system characteristics of the model type. Fridge & Freezer Control The power module monitors the fridge and freezer air sensors, comparing their sensor resistance values with the cut-in and cut-out parameter values stored in its memory. Although the parameters are set, they allow for adjustment within those parameters so that the user has control. The results from the comparisons will determine if cooling is initiated, other circuits of the module will also use the results. The power module will enable normal operation provided there is no malfunction condition. Fridge or Freezer Malfunction Module The fridge or freezer malfunction module enables the appliance to continue operating in the unlikely hood of the fridge or freezer sensors failing. Pre-set timed functions stored in the modules memory is used to cycle cold request on and off. A malfunction occurs when the fridge or freezer cabinet sensors return a value to the module of either Open or Closed circuit, rather than a particular resistance value. Evaporator Fan Module The freezer fan is located above the evaporator coil and is designed to distribute the cold air produced by the evaporator coil uniformly inside the freezer compartment and when necessary in the fridge compartment. The freezer fan is managed by the module and is switched on/off after a preset time interval that is parameterised in the modules memory after a compressor start/stop. The fan will not operate when in the defrost cycle. After the defrost cycle the fan starts after a timed interval following a compressor start, this interval is also parameterised in the modules memory; this interval is different from the interval programmed for normal operating conditions. Electronic Motorised Damper Assembly (Baffle) The purpose of the damper is to allow the cold air produced by the evaporator to be distributed inside the refrigerator compartment. The damper is located in the top left hand (SX) corner of the fridge compartment. It is controlled by a fridge air sensor (thermistor) positioned in the centre of the rear wall of the fridge. Cold air from the evaporator is distributed in the refrigerator compartment. continued.....

Indesit Company COMPONENT FUNCTIONS Compressor The compressor is managed by the power module and switches on whenever a demand for cooling is received. There are situations of cooling demand in which the compressor remains off. These are as follows: 1.

Compressor protection: the compressor switches on once a minimum safety time lag has elapsed since the last power-off, thereby allowing the refrigerant gas pressure to reach a point of equilibrium in the refrigerant circuit. The same minimum safety time is observed in the event of a mains power interruption (voluntary or involuntary). This compressor protection strategy is observed only after the product has been operating continuously for the number of hours defined in the module memory. Pause after defrost: at the end of the defrost cycle the compressor observes a protection time parameterised in the module memory so that the water formed during the defrost can be completely drained.

Indesit Company AUTO TEST This helps with a quick check of the loads and sensors (thermistors), which otherwise are difficult to activate. NOTE: - Before using the AUTO-TEST it is advisable to check the correct operation of the temperature 7-segment LEDs (both fridge and freezer display), which are used for signalling possible malfunctions. Ensure the Super Freeze or Holiday modes have not been selected before starting the AUTO-TEST.

Indesit Company AIR FLOW COMPRESSOR AND CONDENSER COMPARTMENT The condenser fan is mounted at the rear near the compressor and draws air from the room through the right side of the front lower grille (A), through the condenser (B), around the compressor (C) where it exits out of the rear panel (D) but mainly passes over the dissipator to evaporate the defrost water (E) and finally exits out through the left side of the front lower grille. See image below:

Indesit Company AIR FLOW FRIDGE AND FREEZER INTERIOR COMPARTMENTS FREEZER The freezer evaporator is mounted just above the evaporator assembly (F). The fan draws air up through the evaporator where it is cooled (G) and blows into the top duct panel where it is channelled out through outlet ports (H). The air circulates around the freezer and returns through lower grille (J) and is drawn back up through the evaporator where the process is repeated. FRIDGE When there is a demand for cooling in the fridge, the damper (baffle) opens allowing cooled air from the freezer to enter via a ducting in the top left of the fridge (K). The air circulates around the fridge and returns to the freezer through the lower ducting (L). This process is repeated so long as the fridge damper is in the open position. MEAT / VEGETABLE DRAWER TEMPERATURE CONTROL SLIDER The cold air is conveyed inside the meat drawer through an adjustable opening between the fridge compartment and the freezer compartment. In this way the temperature inside the meat drawer is kept lower than the rest of the fridge.

Indesit Company THE SANKYO ICEMAKER HOW THE ICEMAKER WORKS • Water is automatically measured into the icemaker mould by the inlet solenoid water valve. • The Bi-metal thermostat mounted between the support housing and the mould detects the water / ice temperature. • When the ice is cooled down to about - 9°C the thermostat switches the icemaker motor and the icemaker heater ON. • The motor and the ejector blades begin to rotate. • Because the ice is frozen hard in the mould the motor will stall the ejector blades as they apply pressure on the ice. • During the stall period the heater warms the mould to loosen the ice. This may take a few (up to five) minutes. • When the ice is loose enough, the ejector blades and the motor will complete the rotation and eject the ice from the mould. • The ice collects in the ice bucket below the icemaker. • The water inlet valve solenoid switches on again, to fill the mould with fresh water. NOTE: The Icemaker can only be checked with the 'Built-In Auto Test routine', see page 16.

Parameter Values Stored in the Module Memory Direct the Appliance Operations -
Parameters set in the module memory control the appliance functions. The minimum and maximum values for temperature are preset in the module memory. Sensors monitor temperature and the values are registered in the module. Where the sensor values are outside the presets a particular function will start or stop. Where a sensor fails, open or closed, the appliance operation will be controlled by time. The timed values for this are calculated in the module memory. The power module monitors door opening times and compressor run times. When the total of the door open and compressor run times are equal to or exceed the parameter values set in the memory, a defrost sequence will be initiated.
COMPRESSOR OPERATION
Compressor Operation There are situations of cooling demand in which the compressor remains off. These are as follows:
Compressor protection: the compressor switches on once a minimum safety time lag has elapsed since the last power-off, thereby allowing refrigerant gas pressure to reach a point of equilibrium in the refrigerant circuit. The same minimum safety time is observed in the event of a mains power interruption (voluntary or involuntary). Approximately 7 minutes •
Pause after defrost: at the end of the defrost cycle the compressor observes a protection time parameterised in the module memory so that the water formed during defrost can be completely drained. Approximately 7 minutes

All necessary precautions must be taken to prevent damage to the premises and the appliance. The appliance must be disconnected from the mains electricity supply. FREEZER DOOR REMOVAL Remove the lower plinth/grille (2 screws). Disconnect the water tube that enters the bottom of the freezer door from the in-line connector. Remove the top hinge cover (1 hex head screw). Disconnect the 6-pin and 2-pin wiring connectors. Remove 3 hex head screws securing the hinge, whilst supporting the door. Ease the door from the cabinet and lift from the lower hinge without damaging the water tube.

ICEMAKER Remove the ice cube bin. Remove the one screw on the underside front of the icemaker. Slide the icemaker forward and away from its support cradle. The connector is embedded in the sidewall at the end of the icemaker; access can be gained after removing a black sponge block protecting it.

AUGER & SOLENOID Remove the ice cube bin and freezer shelving. Remove the 4 screws (1 at each corner) securing the auger motor and solenoid assembly to the side mouldings. Ease the unit forward and reach in to release the connector from the right hand (DX) sidewall.

FREEZER REAR PANELS (EVAPORATOR COVERS) Remove the icemaker as in E and its support cradle. Remove the auger and solenoid assembly as in F. Remove all sidewall runners and fittings (except senor probe cover). Note which way up the runners are attached to the sidewall. Remove the top section of the rear panel (2 screws). Remove both lower rear panel sections together (6 screws) to expose the evaporator - (foil insulation behind the sections joins them together). On reassembly, ensure that the foil insulation is stuck down properly. EVAPORATOR FAN MOTOR Remove the components as in E, F, G, and H. Remove the fan blade. Lift the motor to release the front retaining plastic moulding from its location. Release the rear retaining plastic moulding to release the motor completely. Disconnect the 2-pin connector.
K. FAN MOTOR (Gain access for testing defrost heater, fan motor and cut-out) 1. Remove the 2 bottom screws of the middle rear panel. 2. Using a chisel knife or similar tool ease the bottom edge of the panel away from the foam pad stuck behind it. 3. Lift the bottom edge forward so the panel is approximately at 45°. 4. Slide the panel forward along the side runners. 5. Disconnect the 2-pin connector for the fan motor. 6. Remove the two screws securing the plastic housing to the rear wall. 7. Lift the assembly from the evaporator metal heat shield. L. 1. 2. 3. 4.
EVAPORATOR Remove the components as in E, F, G, H and K. Lift the evaporator metal heat shield upward slightly to release it from the retaining clip on the rear wall. Note: It is important to relocate in the clip properly on reassembly. Disconnect the 6-pin connector above the evaporator and the earth connection to the metal heat shield. Note: Ensure that the earth connection is relocated properly on reassembly. Pull the bottom of the evaporator outward and raise upward to remove the heat shield from the evaporator. Note: 2 metal clips which are not easy to see, hold the heat shield to the bottom run of the evaporator. These can fall out as the heat shield is removed.
The metal clips are best refitted as follows: Before refitting the heat shield, locate the 2 clips correctly in their respective positions inside the heat shield, toward the bottom. As the heat shield is pushed into place over the evaporator, the clips should relocate in position on the bottom run of the evaporator tube. continued.....

Push the heater upward out of its retaining clips, the clips can now be removed completely and the heater withdrawn from the evaporator.

Remove the 2 screws and remove the damper housing. Release the damper assembly from the liner by depressing all 4 legs located on the freezer compartment side. Disconnect the wiring from the damper motor. Remove the polystyrene sections from the damper. Check the seals on reassembly.

Remove the clear Perspex cover on the ice dispenser lever. This can be helped by gently twisting on the lever to release the hooks from the rear of the lever. Disassemble the damper assembly in the dispenser - i.e. round white object at the top of the dispenser frame toward the right hand side (DX). Remove the hex head screw and spring clip (note small spacer under clip) between the two levers. The long hinge pin can be released from the right hand end only (note the position of a metal spacing washer between the white and brown mouldings on the hinge pin). Using Sniped Nose pliers, grip the right hand (DX) end of the pin and push upward to release. Draw the pin out to the right hand side to release the whole assembly.

Indesit Company INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS INTRODUCTION The model you are installing may differ slightly with respect to some descriptions in this installation, since this covers several models. Install the appliance in a dry and well-ventilated place. Avoid locations in direct sunlight or near a source of heat (oven, heating, etc.). If this cannot be avoided, install the appliance respecting the following minimum distances: Coal or paraffin stoves: 300 mm Electric and/or gas stoves: 30 mm To allow product handling and sufficient air circulation, leave at least 10 mm clearance at the sides, above the appliance, and between the rear panel and the wall.
WATER CONNECTION Disconnect the appliance from the mains power supply before starting operations. • The icemaker and water circuit must be connected to a water supply of potable and/or chemically purified water. • The water connection must be carried out in compliance with local regulations. • The appliance is supplied with a water tube, already attached to the back of the product. • Remove the shipping tape from the coiled water tubing on the rear of the appliance. • Connect the transition connector (1) to the household water supply (2). • Make sure that the water tube is not twisted. • The appliance is pre-set for operation at pressures between 1.7 and 8.1 bar (25 and 117 PSI). • Open the water tap. Check for and eliminate any leaks. • The appliance does not require any adjustment or water drain. ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS Regulations require that the appliance is earthed. The manufacturer declines all liability for injury to persons or animals and for damage to property resulting from failure to observe the prescriptions. Make sure that the installation and the electrical connection are carried out by a qualified technician according to the manufacturer’s instructions and local safety regulations. Ensure that the voltage indicated on the appliance data plate corresponds to the mains voltage. The plug of the appliance must be easily accessible even after installation so that the appliance can be unplugged if necessary. If this is not possible, we recommend the appliance is connected to the mains supply by means of a two-pole switch with minimum break distance between contacts of 3 mm, fitted at an easily accessible point. Do not use extension leads or adapters. After installation, make sure that the appliance is not standing on the power supply cable.

Indesit Company INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS LEVELLING THE APPLIANCE The refrigerator has two front and two rear wheels at the base of the product on each side that can be adjusted (see Figure A), or four wheels of which only the two front wheels can be adjusted (see Figure B). If the appliance seems unsteady or you want the doors to close easier, adjust the appliance's tilt, following the instructions below (depending on the model, as shown in the figures on the right). Check the installation location to be sure you have at least 10 mm clearance on all sides including the top. 2. Connect the appliance to the mains power supply. 3. Move the refrigerator into its final position. 4. Open both doors and remove the plinth to locate the levelling bolts at the left and right of the refrigerator base. The top bolt (1) will adjust the rear wheel (if provided), and the bottom bolt (2) will adjust the front wheel. 5. Use the wrench provided to adjust the levelling bolts. Turn the levelling bolt clockwise to raise the appliance, or Figure B anti-clockwise to lower it. It may take several turns of the levelling bolts to adjust the tilt of the refrigerator. Note: do not unscrew the levelling bolts too much when lowering the appliance as they could fall out.
Aligning the Doors If, after switching on the appliance and adjusting the refrigerator and freezer doors, the doors are misaligned, disconnect the appliance from the power supply and adjust both doors as indicated in the following diagrams.
