1 of 2 11/3/05 SETTING UP PRO TOOLS FOR THE MBOX IN THE MIXING BENCHES 1. Turn on the master power strip and then start the computer. Open Pro Tools from the dock. 2. Under the File menu choose “New Session...”. 3. In the “New Session...” window name your session and select “User Drive 1" or “User Drive 2" to save to. Save the session in a folder with your last name. 4. Select the following values. Audio File Type: BWF (WAV) Sample Rate 44.1 kHz I/O Settings: Stereo Mix Bit Depth: 24 bit Fader gain: +12 dB Enforce Mac/PC compatability: Check 5. Click “Save”. 6. New sessions start with no tracks. You need to add mono or stereo tracks as needed. Under the File menu choose “New Tracks...”. 7. In the “New Tracks...“ window select the following values: Create: 8 new: Mono, Audio Track in: Samples 8. Click “Create”. 9. Repeat to add stereo tracks or more mono tracks as needed. 10. Next we want to set the inputs and outputs of every track. The outputs should default to “Analog 1-2". You can change them in the mixer window. 11. To record you need to set the inputs of the tracks. The options are “Mic/Line 1" or “Mic/Line 2". Set the tracks that you want to record onto to one of those inputs. You can only record 2 tracks at a time. 2 of 2 12. Patch your source into the MBox. 13. We need to switch the MBox inputs from mic to line. On the MBox press the “Source” buttons next to the inputs 1 and 2 gain knobs. The green light above “line” should be lit. 14. Click the “Record Enable“ button on the tracks that you will record. You can now monitor through the computer and set input levels. 15. Listen to the output of the MBox on the mixer channels 7/8. Remember to set the “Volume Control Box” to mixer and to turn up the volume knob. 16. The third knob (from the top) on the MBox mixes the live input with the Pro Tools output. Left is the input source and right is the Pro Tools output. Use the knob to balance between them. 17. Use the gain knobs on the MBox to set the levels. Watch for peak lights on the Mbox and on the meters in Pro Tools. If there is a peak turn down the gain. 18.. To record, click the “Record” button on the “Transport” window and the click the “Play” button. Remember to set the counter to where you want to start. 19.. To playback the tracks, click the “Record Enable” buttons so that they are off. You can now listen back to the tracks on the mixer. 20. To record more tracks repeat steps 11-19..
