Installation Instructions Short Throw Shifter 1982-1986 JEEP CJ7-CJ8 (4.2L, 6CYL) Part Number 45107 ©2001 by B&M Racing and Performance Products LLC This B&M Short Throw Shifter has been designed to work on most 1982-1986 JEEP CJ (4.2L, 6CYL) models equipped with a manual transmission. It has been engineered to greatly reduce shift throw and improve shifter feel. Check the parts list and tool lists at the beginning of these instructions for the supplied parts and the tools required to install your B&M Short Throw Shifter. Installation of the B&M Short Throw Shifter can be accomplished by anyone with minimal mechanical experience. INTRODUCTION The B&M Short Throw Shifter can be installed in less than an hour by carefully following the instructions. Read all instructions first to familiarize yourself with the parts, tools, and procedures. This kit contains all the parts necessary to install the shifter. PARTS B&M Short Throw Shifter Printed in the U.S.A. 9500730-01 Tools Drive Extension Socket (1/2") Wrench (1/2", 3/4") Screwdriver (phillips) RTV Silicone DISASSEMBLY STEP 1. Remove stock shift knob. Tool: 3/4" wrench STEP 2. Remove four-wheel drive shift knob. Tool: 3/4" wrench STEP 3. Remove floor carpet. STEP 4. Remove ten (10) floor pan screws. Tool: screwdriver (phillips) STEP 5. Remove floor pan. STEP 6. Remove five (5) shifter bolts. Tools: Drive, extension, 1/2" socket, 1/2" wrench NOTE: The fifth bolt is accessed from under vehicle. Use 1/2" open-ended wrench. STEP 7. Remove stock shifter. STEP 8. Remove plastic pivot cup from shifter. STEP 9. Reinstall plastic pivot cup into transmission shift cup. ASSEMBLY STEP 10. Apply bead of silicone to B&M Short Throw Shifter Base. Tool: RTV Silicone STEP 11. Install B&M Short Throw Shifter. STEP 12. Tighten mounting bolts. Note: Reuse stock bolts. Tools: Drive, extension, 1/2" socket, 1/2" wrench STEP 13. Reinstall floor pan. STEP 14. Tighten floor pan screws. Tool: Screwdriver (phillips) STEP 15. Reinstall floor carpet. STEP 16. Reinstall shift knobs. Tool: 3/4" wrench STEP 17. Enjoy short shifts, great looks, and superior feel!
