Foreword FunGolf is the first golf GPS with 3D view and smart yardage indicators. Unlike other products, FunGolf knows more than a satellite image and scorecard for the course you are playing. Every single fairway, green, bunker and other hazards have been modeled in 3D, so FunGolf is able to offer not only a subjective view of the course as you are seeing it, but also compute your distance to those important elements of your game on the fly, and display them in smart indicators that appear or disappear as you progress on the course. 4
Thank you for downloading FunGolf. We strive to provide the best service and technical support possible. Contact us to ask any question: Email:

Now let's take a guided tour through the app.
5
Main Menu
When you launch the app, you see the main menu.
6
The main menu lets you: • create a New Round • view your Saved Rounds • view Statistics • access the "Account & Settings" menu • send an email to our team using the "Support" Link. The application version number is shown at the bottom of the menu. Use the "App Store" application to check for upgrades to the FunGolf application.
7
➜ If you have not already done so, please go to the "Account & Settings" menu to set the distance units (meters or yards). Once set, any distance shown in the app will respect your choice.
Let's start by creating a new round: Tap the New Round button. The Round Settings screen will appear.
8
Round Settings The Round Settings let you select a golf course, add the players, and set the start date for that round.
Selecting a Course Tap the Course button.
➜ FunGolf saves the last used course. If you are playing on the same course as in the previous round, you can skip this step. 9
The Courses screens appears. It has three tabs: • Search • Map • Downloads ➜ You should allow FunGolf to access your location information. Otherwise it will not be able to show you the nearby courses or give yardage while on the course. The Search tab lists the nearby golf courses. If you are looking for a particular golf course, even far away, you can tap part of its name in the Find Course search field.
10
FunGolf sorts the results from the nearest to the furthest facility.
The Map tab shows the courses in a given location on a map. By default, this map is centered around your position, but you can pan and zoom to view another area. 11
Once found, tap the Find Courses button: FunGolf will list the golf courses around that area. Tap on any pin representing a golf course to view detailed information for it.
12
➜ FunGolf downloads the golf course data on your device. This means you do not need a network connection to use it while on the course. As the GPS also work without network connection, you will be able to use FunGolf even in poor (or no) network environments. This is especially useful while playing abroad: you can turn off data and still use FunGolf, without worrying about expensive roaming plans. The Downloads tab shows the list of all the courses you have already downloaded.
13
Golf courses can be updated on a regular basis. (for example, the scorecard may change, as well as the course layout itself ). To ensure you have the latest data for your downloaded courses, please tap the Update Courses button. ( )
Tap a course name to reveal detailed info.
14
Once you have selected your course, tap the «Play Course» button to start playing.
Adding Players On the Round Settings screen, tap the Players button to add or edit players in your round. The Players screen will appear.
15
To set up a player, use the The Contact button ( ) to select a contact from your Address Book. If you are playing with someone whose contact details are not in your Address Book, just type their name. 16
Enter his handicap index, and select the teebox for the player. ➜ Important: FunGolf always assumes you are the first player in the players list. To set a picture for a player, tap the Player icon. Scorecards with pictures look much nicer. ➜ FunGolf remembers the teebox for each player. However, as they may not be named consistently from one course to another, be sure to check the teebox for each player whenever you change the course. When you have finished setting up the player, tap the Done button. 17
Use the Add new player button as required to track the score for all the player in your round. To start the round, just tap OK.
18
Hole Screen
19
➜ If you have not previously done so, allow FunGolf to access your location information. Otherwise it will not be able to locate you on the course nor give yardage to the green or hazards. If you have previously denied access to your location information, you should go to the Settings application of your device to allow Location Services for FunGolf.
What is on the screen FunGolf shows a 3D map for the first hole of the selected course.
20
As in the Maps application, the (blue) ball is located at your actual position. If you are not on the course, it is located arbitrarily in the middle of the back tees. Otherwise it appears "where you are". The indicators show the yardage from the the player to various points on the terrain. The units (meters or yards) are specified in the main menu.
The red indicator shows distance to a green center.
White indicators show distances to various hazards. 21
The blue indicator is your target. FunGolf computes perfect target automatically, according to the hole characteristics and the selected club.
The back button brings you back to the Main Menu.
On the top you see the current hole number, its PAR and HCP (or "Stroke Index"). Use the arrows to go to the next or previous hole. ➜ To jump directly to some hole, tap the hole number and select a hole from the list. 22
"Automatic" button: This button brings player indicator to your current location and moves the camera behind it.
Settings Let you access the Round settings.
Display mode FunGolf has many display modes to offer:
• 3D: the 3D view (default choice). 23
• Flyover: A nice 3D flyover on the hole to discover a new course. • 2D: a 2D map, also available without network connection, and more contrasted than a satellite image. • Satellite: an aerial imagery from the hole. Requires network connection. • Course Navigator: an augmented reality view. It will show the current green, and tee boxes for every holes. Available only on the iPhone.
➜ The «Course Navigator» can be very useful in a «Shotgun» tournament: it will help you locate your starting tee box. 24
➜ Only «Satellite» require a network connection. All other modes work even without network connection. This is especially useful while playing abroad: you can turn off data and still use FunGolf, without worrying about expensive roaming plans.
Club Advice Shows the recommended club to reach the Target. (See § Club Advice)
25
Record Shot Tap this button when you hit the ball to record shot position. FunGolf will compute additional stats. See § Shot Tracking.
Scorecard Tap this button to edit the scorecard. See § Scorecard.
Moving the camera FunGolf 3D view is interactive: when automatic mode is enabled, the camera will 26
"follow" you as you move. This of course can only be experienced while on the course. But you can also move the camera by panning your finger: • pan vertically to move along the hole main direction. • pan horizontally to move left of right.
If you have moved the camera, automatic mode is disabled. To re-enable it, just tap the automatic button ( ). Notice how additional yardage indicators appears as you pan the camera towards the green. FunGolf sophisticated algorithm will compute and display indicators in real time. 27
See how natural it feels: to get more info on a particular area, pan towards it. ➜ Even if you move the camera, the yardages are always computed from the player position. You can also zoom-in or out by using a twofingers pinching gesture. Indicators will be bigger. This is useful for players that needs to wear glasses to read.
Moving the Target FunGolf computes an ideal target automatically, and gives a club advice to reach it. But you can also choose the target 28
position yourself by dragging it to another location. Try this: move the target closer to your position and see how the club advice changes in realtime. When the target position has been manually set, the target color changes to purple. To re-enable automatic position for the target, tap the Automatic button ( ). The target will turn blue and come back to its computed location.
29
Moving the Player In automatic mode, the player icon is in sync with your GPS position. (if you are not on the course, it is arbitrarily located on the middle of the back tees). You can simulate a manual location by moving the player icon: make a «long» tap on it. As soon as it raises, you can drag it around, without releasing your finger. See how the target moves in sync to it, and how additional yardage indicators are computed. ➜ This is useful when you want to «prepare» your game ahead.
30
Missing Course map If the map for the course you have downloaded is not available yet, the following screen will appear.
31
Tap the Request Map button: it will tell our team you want to play this course. We will do our best to build a 3D map of the course. We process requests in a "first-in first-out" order. ➜ We are usually able to map a course in 2 business days or less. When the map will be available, you will receive an email if you have created an account, and/or a Push Notification if you have allowed them. ➜ To accept Push Notifications if you have previously refused them, go to the Settings application on your device. 32
➜ Even if the course map is not available, you can still use FunGolf to track your scores. Just tap the Scorecard button. (
33
)
Scorecard
34
From the Hole Screen, you can access the scorecard by tapping the Scorecard ( ) button. To enter the score for a player, tap the corresponding cell and use the picker below to enter its gross score. You may also enter the number of putts and penalties: FunGolf will then be able to compute additional stats for your game. The gross score includes penalty and putts. For example, on hole #2, "Roger" played 7, including one penalty and 2 putts. In that case, enter 7 in the first column, 2 in the "Putts" column, and "1" in the "Penalties" column. 35
➜ If you use the Shot Tracking feature, your scorecard will be pre-filled with recorded shots. But you can always edit your score independently in the scorecard.
Each cell in a scorecard can display up to 4 values: • The number in the center is the player score. • The dots in the upper right corner shows the handicap strokes. • The lower left corner shows the number of putts. 36
• The red number in the lower right corner shows the penalties. ➜ Tilt your device to view the scorecard in landscape orientation: it will conveniently display 9 holes in a row.
37
• Tap the Cup Icon ( ) to set game and scoring options (Gross, To par, Gross Stableford, Net Stableford, Stroke Play or Match Play for 2 players) • Tap the Stats Button ( ) to view the stats for this round (including after-round simulated handicap index) • The Share Button ( ) let you share your scorecard by email, twitter, or print it. Printing requires an AirPrint™ compatible printer. • The Map Button ( the map view.
) lets you go back to
38
Account & Settings This screen can be reached directly from the main menu.
39
FunGolf account You can create a free account on FunGolf servers. With a FunGolf account, you get the following benefits: • you can save (and restore) your scorecard history on our secure servers. • you can view statistics on multiple rounds. • you can sync your data between multiple devices. We advise you to create an account as soon as you have entered one round: your round data will be saved on our secure servers, and you will be able to recover them even if you have to change your phone.
40
Tap the "Sign In" button to Register a new account for free, or to Sign in with an existing account.
Settings FunGolf let you set: • Your clubs set • Your handicap index • The size for the indicators labels. (Normal or Large) • The distance units (meters or yards).
41
Club Settings FunGolf advises you the club to play to reach your target. To make it work right, you will should tell FunGolf which clubs are in your bag. On the Hole Screen, tap the Club Advice button.
A default club set will appear. Tap the Edit button to customize it.
42
Tap a club to edit it (or remove it). Tap on the + button to add a new club. For each club, make sure you enter your distance. FunGolf will use that number to compute its club advice. 43
FunGolf will only advise clubs that are in your bag. You can use the In the bag switch to keep stats for clubs that you do not use on every golf round, without deleting them. You do not have to enter the loft for each of your clubs. It is only useful for clubs that only differ by their loft, in order to distinguish them. Wedges, for instance. ➜ If you have created a free FunGolf account, your clubs will be saved on our servers. If you use FunGolf on several devices with the same account, the club list will by synced between the devices.
44
Club advice Now that your clubs are set up, you can make use of the Club advice.
FunGolf will suggest you a club to play by computing the distance to the target. But as FunGolf "knows" the hole, it will also take the "lie" into consideration. For instance, it will not advise you to play a Driver from the rough. In some circumstances you want to play a different club than the suggested one. Just tap the Club Advice button.
45
Choose the club to play in the list. The target will then move to a newly computed position according to the chosen club. 46
To restore Automatic Club advice, tap the Auto button. ➜ In Auto mode, the Club button background is blue, whereas on manual club selection, the background is black. .
47
Shot Tracking Shot Tracking is the process of recording the location of each of your swing. If you use Shot Tracking, FunGolf is able to calculate additional stats for your game. ➜ Using the Shot Tracking feature is optional. You may use FunGolf without it, just by entering score in the Scorecard. Because it requires a tap on every shot, we recommend it to stats-avid golfers. You can also use Shot Tracking for some of your shots: drives, for instance. To use Shot Tracking, just tap the Record Shot button ( ) each time you hit the ball. 48
A Shot Indicator will animate to the location of your shot. This indicator is labeled with the club you have played. You can tap this Shot Indicator if you want to edit it:
In that screen, you can change the club used. If the shot led to a penalty, you can enter it here by toggling the Penalty switch. 49
Continue recording your shots up to the pin. You can record the Pin position by using the "Pin position" switch. It will only be enabled while you are on the green. To review all the shots, tap the Shots button on the left.
50
The Shots screen displays the shots in the proper order: most recent at the top of the list. Recording the position for a shot lets FunGolf compute the length of the previous shot. As FunGolf knows the nature of the ground (the lie), it can also tell where each shot has gone. FunGolf will use the recorded shots to compute the "Fairways hit" stats, among others. In the Shot List screen, you can tap the Edit button to remove a shot you have mistakenly recorded.
51
You can also re-order the shots by dragging them. Re-ordering shots can be useful if you forgot to record a shot. Let's say you forgot to record your drive, but only realize it when arriving to your ball location. After recording your second shot, you can record a new shot for your drive by dragging player position to your estimated teebox location. Open the Shot List window to drag this new shot to the bottom of the list. Shots will now be in the correct order.
52
Saved Rounds
Create a free FunGolf account to save your Rounds on our servers. This has several benefits: 53
• If you change your device, you will be able to get all your rounds history and clubs on your newer device. • If you have several devices, (for example an iPhone™ and an iPad™) rounds and clubs will be synced between these devices. • You can also review your scorecards from our website at www.fungolf.com
The sync is automatic when you enter the Saved Rounds screen, as long as you have signed-in with the same account on both devices. 54
From the Saved Rounds screen, you can also review the scorecard and shot history: tap a round to access its scorecard. To delete a round, tap the Edit button then use the red "minus" button. The current round cannot be removed. ➜ While the synchronization itself requires a network connection, once synchronized, all your data is always available even without a network connection.
55
Statistics Dashboard
56
If you have set up an account, and have entered at least a score, you can enter the Statistics menu. As you enter more and more data, the stats gets richer, and more accurate: • entering your gross score only will let you review the Handicap Index and Average Score to Par statistics. • If you also enter the number of putts played per hole, you will be able to access the "Green in Regulation" and "Average Putts" statistics. • If you also use the Shot Tracking feature, you will be able to view the "Fairways Hit" and "Club distance" stats.
57
The dashboard in the upper part of the screen shows comprehensive metrics on your current round: • Simulated handicap index after the round. • Gross score played. • Fairways Hit. This is a measure of your first shot accuracy: a percentage of first shots that hit the fairway or the green. The higher, the better. • Green in Regulation. Measures your long game accuracy: a percentage of greens reached in "PAR - 2 strokes" at max. • Putts per Hole. Measures your putting accuracy: number of putts divided by number of holes. The lower, the better. 58
• Driving distance: your average driving distance.
The menu in the lower part, you can view a per-round chart of each of the above metrics.
59
Handicap Index
This chart shows your official index in red, and your simulated index in blue.
60
As in every FunGolf chart, you can touch each segment to review the corresponding scorecard. This way, if a value seams not reasonable, you can find the data that has been mis-entered. If you have played several courses, a list all played courses will appear. Tap a course name to filter the chart for this course only. ➜ If the blue curve is often below the red curve, it's time to play a handicap golf competition!
61
Average Score to Par
This graph measures your overall performance, as the Handicap Index graph.
62
Moreover, a colored bar shows a per-score distribution of all of your scores. The basis for this graph is the visible round window. In the above screenshot, the user has played 31 pars between June 22nd and August 15th. When you have entered several rounds, see how the colored bar animates as you scroll the round graph over time! If you train well, you should see more and more "green" in the colored bar. As for any graph, you can touch a segment to view the score distribution for a given round, or use the course menu at the bottom of the screen to filter the graph percourse. 63
➜ If you have removed a course from your device, but still have a recorded round for this course, you may see a dashed segment. Touch the segment to download the course data and recompute the stats.
Fairways Hit Measures your first shot accuracy: it is the percentage of first shots that hit the fairway or the green. ➜ This data is only available if you record at least the first two shots.
64
Greens in Regulation (GIR) Measures your long game accuracy: Greens are reached "in Regulation" if you shot less than "PAR - 2" strokes. ➜ GIR data is available only if you enter your number of putts in the scorecard (or record shots when putting).
Average Putts Number of putts divided by the number of holes. You should really go to the practice green if this is number is bigger than 2!
65
This is probably the part of the game that can be improved with the best time-spent / stroke saved ratio! ➜ Like GIR, average putts are available only if you enter your number of putts in the scorecard (or record shots when putting)
Club Distance This stat let you know your game better by averaging a per-round, per-club distance. ➜ This data is only available if you use the Shot Tracking feature.
66
Power savings As any GPS intensive application, FunGolf requires some power to run: for a typical 18holes round, expect an average consumption of 50%-60% of your battery charge. Here are some tips: • Ensure your phone is 100% charged before starting a round. If you drive to your golf course, use a car power adapter to keep your phone charged while on your way. • Tap the "Sleep/Wake" button on your device to put your device to sleep when
67
you're not using FunGolf to read the yardage or enter the score. ➜ If you have setup a passcode lock on your device, it can be tedious to enter it each time you need to read a distance. Go to the "Settings" application, then tap "General". In the "Passcode Lock" section, set the "Require Passcode" to "After 15 min", for example.
68
Happy Golfing! With its innovative 3D view and smart indicators, FunGolf will always give you an accurate insight on the hole you are playing without any interaction from your part. And it will also suggest a club to play. During the game do not forget to account for wind, temperature and strain as FunGolf is not aware of them. Include FunGolf in your routine: it will help you gain confidence in your club choice and focus on your swing.
69
Rounds history and statistics are a very good tool to help you know your game better. Compare your metrics with friends, and show them to your local pro so he can help you work on some part of your game. Thanks to its worldwide coverage and offline maps, FunGolf will be able to guide you during all of your golf trips with a peace of mind.
Happy Golfing! The FunGolf team.
