I
f time flies when you are having fun, it really zips along at a three-day event like the LDI show in Orlando. From the education sessions, the back rooms, seeing new products in development, the show floor and, of course, seeing old and new friends — not just on the show floor, but at the Parnelli Awards (see page 28) and after hours, with friends telling old stories and catching up over a pint or four. The day before the show floor opened this year, a sprinkler head malfunctioned, causing some meeting rooms to be inundated with water and causing equipment damage. (See

LDI 2011 Editor’s Note, page 4). Another deluge hit the day the exhibit floor opened — but it was the natural kind, and it stayed outside, where it belonged. 2011 LDI Show standouts included the Kinetic Light Ring (KLR) from Parasol Systems at the Clay Paky booth. We have all seen a moving light in action, but what about a moving light that moves? See the online exclusive demo of the KLR on PLSN.tv, (http://plsn.me/ul53Xo). And if LDI has been dubbed “LED-I,” Dr. DMX, a.k.a. Doug Fleenor, is launching the Edison Light, an array of 24 100W sockets and
individual dimmers that use “that new technology,” the incandescent lamp. Watch and see the good Doctor introduce the Edison Light on PLSN.tv (http://plsn.me/rUK17y). Back in LED land, the race is on for an LED version of the classic ellipsoidal instrument: The Light Source LED profile, the Strong Neeva 100W LED Profile and the Prism Projection P2 Profile — others were offering a glimpse of products under development. These included Philips Selecon’s version of an LED ellipsoidal, the PL Profile, and ETC’s Source Four LED ellipsoidal.
Throughout the show, I was adding updates to our social networking site, ProLightingSpace.com, and tweeting from the floor, parties and awards ceremonies on our Twitter account, @PLSNmagazine. Our Student Reporter, Kent Laue was scouring the show floor as well, getting interviews and product demos from a number of manufacturers. You can catch the news, videos and photos ProLightingSpace.com. Next year’s LDI show returns to the Las Vegas Convention Center from Oct. 19-21, 2012. See you in Sin City!
