Model M75E-95G Type 2 is a high quality elliptical stylus Stereo phono cartridge mounted on a retractile safety suspenvlon system to p r o v ~ d ea scratch-proof, bounce-proof, leature to the operatlon of a n automatic turntable. The Model M75K-Y5G Type 2 1s designed spec~ficallyfor the Garrard SLY5 Autonlatlc Turntable. The elllptlcal stylus cartridge 1s sprlng mounted In the plckup head. A r l ~ a x ~ m u m needle force of 1% grams IS exerted on the face of the record. Forces In excess of approx~mately2 grams will cause e ~ t h e rthe plastic saiety bumper a t the rear of the c a r t r ~ d g e or the plastlc bumper In the stylus grip to come in contact wlth the reccrd surface and thereby protect the record from needle scratches and protect the needle itself irom damage. Perhaps the most desirable advantage of all i s , the M75EY5G Type 2 makes ~t posslble to operate the turntable In situatlons where a changer norn~allywill not work well. These include such adverse condltlons as aboard a ship during a storm; in roorlls where modern dancing is done; and, in general, in any area in which shaky floors or unstable phonograph supports wlll normally cause mistracking of the c a r t r ~ d g e .
INSTALLATION For Automatic and Manual Play: 1. Remove present pickup head and insert Shure Model into phono arm. Care must be taken In removal and inserting of the pickup heads not to cause damage to the stylus, or to disturb the poslt~onof the leads. 2 . Set stylus force indicator to "0." 3. Balance arm as per Garrard instructions and set stylus force indicator in the range of 1 % to 1 % grams. I n this case the clearance from the record surface to the plastic s a f e t i bumper a t the rear of the cartridge will be between \js" to %." Thls range in recommended playing posltion should be maintamed even if it is necessary to a d ~ u s t the 1'/4 gl.anr settlng on the arm indicator slightly. Thls Irlay be necessary due to the tolerance bu~ldupin certaln arms plus slight inaccuracies in the arm-balancing process. N O T E : If it is desired to play a stack of flve records, the clearance of the safety bumper should be measured with T H R E E records on the turntable.
Suggestions for Cleaning Your Stylus To clean the stylus, use a camel's-hair brush (No. 2 size or smaller) dipped lightly in alcohol. The alcohol will remove any sludge deposits which may have coated the stylus tip. The brush bristles should be trimmed to a length no longer than 1/4 inch. Always brush the stylus with a forward movement from the rear (terminal end of the cartridge) to the front. Never brush or wipe the stylus from front to back or slde to side.
EASY STYLUS REPLACEMENT Grasp molded housing of stylus between thumb and forefinger. Gently withdraw stylus b y pulling forward out of cartridge. Grasp replacement stylus between thumb and foreflnger and insert into stylus socket. Press stylus into socket until the molded housin of the stylus mates witf the c a r t r ~ d g e case. Care must be taken not to allow the Anger to slip off the molded housing of t h e stylus resultin in damage t& the styfun t i p or shank. STYLUS REPLACEMENT
T h e position of t h e leads inside t h e pickup head shell i s extremely important in maintaining proper tracking force and proper operation of the cartridge-head assembly. T h e leads have been positioned a t the, factor for optimum performance a n d the leads should not be dlsturbeg. CAUTION:

RECOMMENDED PLAYING POSITION S P E C I A L N O T E : T h e Dynetic stylus assembly,used in these cart n d g e s 1s the most critical component. T o malntaln the original performance standards of your cartridge, be certain that a n y re-
placement stylus you buy bears the following certification on the package: "This D y f t e t ~ c stylus i s precision manufactured by Shure Brothers, Inc.
AVOID INFERIOR IMITATIONS. THEY W I L L SERIOUSLY DEGRADE T H E PERFORMANCE O F YOUR CARTRIDGE. ALL GENUINE "DYNETIC" STYLI ARE MANUFACTURED BY SHURE BROTHERS INC. LABORATORY T E S T F I N D I N G S : (Note: T h e following stylus test f i n d ~ n g sof the Shure N3D stylus a r e a n example of the close scrutiny Shure pays to all ~ m i t a t i mS l ~ u r eDynetic Styli.) Shure laboratorv tests show t h a t the imitation stylus assemblies labeled a s r e ~ l a c k m e n t sfor the Shure Model N 3 D Stylus Assernbly vary drastically in important performance charactefistics. F o r example, the compliance varied from a low 0.9 to a high of 11.5, requirln 9.0 grams to track a recqrd with a low compliance stylus, and grams with a high compliance stylus. T h e high compliance stylus retracted a t 4 grams needle force, a l l o w ~ n gthe cartridge case to d r a g on the rccord surface, thereby becoming inoperative. Response a t high frequency (relative to the l k c level) ranged from a 5.5dh peak to a drop of 7.5db. Separation vaned from "good" (27db) to "poor" (16.5db a t lkc. These flgures reveal that there 1s very little consistency in performance characteristic of the imitation Dynetic Styli.

I n each of the categories shown above, the results ranged from good to poor. As a matter of fact, only 10% of the samples met the Shure performance standards for the Shure N3D Stereo Dynetic Stylus. In addition to our test flndings, our Service Department records show than a n increasing number of Dynetic Phono Cartridges a r e being returned because of poor performance-and our examination has disclosed that most of these returned cartridges a r e using Imitation Dynetic Styll. CONCLUSION: Obviously, if any imitation Dynetic Stylus is used. we cannot guarantee that the pertormance of Shure D y n e t ~ c cartridges will meet the published Shure speciflcations. Accept no substitute G U A R A N T E E : This Shure product is guaranteed in normal use to he free from electrical and mechanical defects f o r a period of one year from the date of purchase.
