modem EDGE Speed ES75 Package contents: modem power supply antenna USB cable serial cable Installation guide EDGE Speed ES75 is a compact modem for data and SMS transmission in GSM networks with the support of GPRS and EDGE standards. This short guide will show you how to connect and install the EDGE Speed ES75 modem including programme for internet connection and sending SMS. For more information see the user´s manual in the PDF file (Acrobat Reader) in the enclosed CD. Security principles for EDGE Speed ES75 • Switch the modem off when you are in a hospital or near medical devices. • Switch the ES75 modem off when flying. Secure it so that it cannot be switched on inadvertently. Switch the modem off when you are near petrol stations, fuel depots, chemical plants or blasting operations. The modem can disturb the operation of technical equipment. • Do not use ES75 in bathrooms and showers. • Prevent direct influence of heat sources such as heating radiators and do not expose it to direct insolation. • In order to avoid possible damage we recommend that you only use specified accessories such as power supply and original accessories. EDGE Speed ES75 complies with relevant European Union standards. Nevertheless, if sound and picture reception in your TV set or radio should be affected, check the quality of shielding with your TV set supplier. The warranty does not apply in the event of improper use! Operation system • • • • • PC with min. Pentium 2, 350MHz minimum 64 MB RAM and 3 MB free on HD operation system Windows NT, 2000, XP free USB port version 1.1 / 2.0 or COM port (USB connection is released for Windows XP) CD-ROM or DVD 2 Trade marks Microsoft, Windows 98SE, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Explorer are registered trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. Installation → Make sure that ES75 modem is not connected. → Close all the running programmes. → Insert the enclosed CD in the CD tray of your PC and wait until the welcome screen appears. If it does not do so automatically, start the installation manually: − open Windows Explorer − select CD-ROM drive and start the programme setup.exe. → In the window select an interface via which you will connect the ES75. In the following screen in your PC select a directory for file installation. → Accept default set up or by means of Browse select another directory and click on Next. → When requested connect modem EGDE Speed ES75 to the selected port of your computer. After the connection of ES75 the window of the Windows wizard will open for automatic detection of hardware and driver installation.Follow its instructions - if you interrupt the installation the driver cannot be installed correctly. → After finishing the wizard by adding a new HW continue by selecting Next. → A window with the choice of components for the installation of parts will appear. Choose Next. → After successful installation finish the wizard by installing a new HW by selecting Finish. i If during the installation a window indicating a missing electronic signature appears, ignore it and continue the installation by selecting Next. 3 Possible problems during the installation In very exceptional cases it might happen that the driver installation will not be completed. It can be due to incorrect procedure during the installation. In such a case stop the installation programme, keep the ES75 modem connected to the computer and start the installation again (this time do not disconnect ES75) Checking successful installation After restarting the computer the successful installation is indicated by following specifications: Menu Start contains new references: Start>Programms>EDGESpeed ES75 USB>EDGESpeed ES75 USB Start>Programms>EDGESpeed ES75 USB>Uninstall or EDGESpeed ES75 for installation in COM port An icon for starting the programme will appear in the screen. Following items are added to the control panels: in the Modems folder it is a new driver: Siemens AG WM USB modem / EmemTModem in the network connection: ES75USBConn / ES75Conn Operation instructions If it is not possible to connect, check your Firewall set-up. If during the connection to the internet via USB speed of 38400 kbps is displayed, it is only initial setting which does not affect the actual data transmission speed in any way. During data transmittion and surfing the net SW problem in your PC (operation system drop-out, programmes mistakes) or a temporary problem in data transmission in the net of the operator can sometimes cause outage of ES75. In such a case disconnect and connect to GPRS again.If this does not help, it is necessary to disconnect and again connect USB cable or restart PC.
