SILESTONE SHEET
1. Description Essential material made of quartz and a series of inorganic loads, whose composition can vary depending on colour. Polyester resin is used as an agglomerate with a percentage of less than 10%.
2. Aspect and properties Colour consistency: Due to the Silestone production process, and the homogeneous mixture of the components in the first stages, a very high colour consistency is achieved. Silestone, now available in more than 50 colours. Low porosity: Silestone has a low level porosity surface, making it highly resistant to stains produced by the products normally used in the kitchen (oil, wine, coffee, etc.) Hardness: Quartz is number 7 in the Mohs scale (diamond is 10). Due to the high percentage of quartz, Silestone is highly resistant to scratches, although it should not be treated too harshly. Mechanical resistance: The high impact resistance of Silestone greatly exceeds that of other products of similar applications (granite, solid surfaces, etc.) and allow having peace of mind when handling objets. Additionally, Silestone also has higher resistance values than other products used in similar applications in properties as important as compression and flexion. Versatility: Silestone can be used for any inside surface, including kitchen and bathroom worktops, staircases, panels, baths and nearby areas, floors, walls, bar counters, tables, desks. UV radiation: Due to the percentage of resin in the composition of Silestone, outside use is not recommended, neither is its exposure to UV radiation emission sources. Resistance to bacteria: Silestone es the only quartz surface inhibiting bacteria growth. For more details, please refer to Annex I.

5.2. Cleaning and maintenance Actions Grease stains
Water limescale (water glasses) Silicone stains Difficult stains
Loss of gloss
Apply a small amount of Q-FORCE or similar on the stain and scrub with a scrubber (Scotch-Brite type) until it disappears. Then rinse with water. Pour hydrochloric acid (Salfuman or similar) on the surface and let act for 1 minute. Rinse with water. Follow the user recommendations indicated by the hydrochloric acid manufacturer. Do not apply on other products (taps, sink, etc.) as it could affect the finish of the same. Use a blade and some solvent (not including dichloromethane, methane dichloride). Rinse with water. For difficult stains pour Q-force (or similar) on the area affected for 2 minutes and scrub well with a scrubber (Scotch-Brite). Then rinse with abundant water. The loss of gloss on the Silestone surface can be due to the use of products (wax, sprays, sealants, etc.) in order to enhance gloss, although with time the effect of said products is lost. It is therefore a loss that has nothing to do with the original product machined gloss when it leaves the factory. To recover this unnatural gloss use a suitable furniture multi-use spray. Repolishing not necessary.
5.3. Incidents/solutions How to avoid Efflorescence in floor joints
Tiles coming off low
Different tiles
Breaks by thermal
Actions This effect is produced whin the adhesive joining hardens. White calcareous remains are generated around the joint. Scrub with detergent and clean with a cloth to eliminate them. In general, faults in the tiling installation are due to various reasons: the support is humid (the porosity of Silestone prevent the humidity from the support from reaching the surface, making it loose, not leaving joints, use of cement not recommended by Cosentino, S.A. and/or incorrect installation. Cement glue should be used. Cosentino, S.A., recommends Ardurit FB9 or Ardurit X7G Plus (by Ardex), Granirapid or Keralastic (by Mapei) or Pegoland Fast Fluido (by Puma). If expansion spaces are not left during the installation joints, the material can expand; a structural fault will result in some tiles coming loose. We recommend leaving at least a 2 mm space. This happens when the edge of a tile is bigger than that of the following. The different edges are the result of incorrect installation. If the edge is bigger than the thickness of a coin, it is considered as excessive and the tile should be levelled off. This will require the services of a professional contractor in order to finish the floor. In machined areas, the concentration of stress in the structure is higher and micro-cracks can be caused, which can be the beginning of a breakage. In square cuts, the material suffers a concentration of stress that can increase the breakage by thermal shock possibilities. This effect is usually solved by reinforcing the structure at these points by stickin parts and rounding off edges.

Silestone WITHOUT MICROBAN
1. What is microban ? How does it act ? Microban is an active component that Cosentino has included in Silestone to provide antibacterial protection over the entire surface. It is not a surface treatment. Microban is included in the production process in the first stages, during the mixing of the quartz and resins. Silestone with Microban is the only quartz surface in the world which includes a system inhibiting the growth of bacteria (potentially harmful) and mould. Bacteria of the Escherichia coli (E. coli), Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enteriditis, Listeria monocytogenes, Clostridium Botulinum, Aspergilus (mould).

2. How does it protect ?
With Microban
Microban provides protection for more than 15 years. Microban provides total hygiene: Helps maintaining the surface clean of bacteria. Provides permanent protection (does not replace frequent cleaning). Breaks the crawling insect food chain. More effective than a disinfectant due to its constant action and presence in the entire material mass.
3. What are the guarantees provided by microban? Silestone with the Microban manufacturing processes are ISO 9001 certified. Antibacterial efficiency tests of the parts treated with Microban compared with areas without Microban treatment. Age simulation test – 15 years : decrease of bacteria and mould of more than 97,5% after 24 h. (Anayco laboratories). Microban has been used at Hospitals for more than 35 years. Microban is approved for contact with food, in accordance with: - European Scientific Committee for Food (EU Directive 2002/72/ECUS Environmental Protection Agency). - US Food and Drugs Administration.

6. Certificates GREENGUARD
NSF
Certificat Nº HP2Ss93513-1. The US (Greenguard Environmental Institute) is an independent organisation whose objective is to improve public health and quality of life by means of programmes improving air in indoor areas. GREENGUARD certifies that Silestone complies with indoor air quality standards with respect to volatile organic compounds (VOC). The GREENGUARD certification programme helps builders, architects, interior designers, specialised professionals and consumers to create better indoor areas, identifying lowemission products.
NSF is a non-profit making non-governmental organisation acting as third party to issue certificates regarding health, hygiene and environment. It is currently the most wordwide known organisms as supplier of certifications in these areas; Backed by prestigious oranisms such as the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and the WHO (World Health Organisation). It is the only entity of this type fully certified by ANSI in USA. Since July 2007, NSF International, issued the certification to Silestone, certifying the same not only for accidental or sporadic contact, but also for direct contact with any type of food. With the new certification, Silestone® is considered as safe material for direct contact with ANY TYPE OF FOOD, being able to place food directly on the same with total safety, and can be used as a plate or recipient for food.
Protector Plus: Cosentino joins the new NSF certification together with the Greenguard and Microban certification in a sole seal, « Protector Plus ».
