AstroJet M2 Quick Start Guide
Step 1 Remove Printer and Accessories from packaging. Place Printer on a flat, even surface.

Remove Service Station Transport Tab
Connect Power to Printer 1. Main Power Switch [1] is turned OFF.
1. Open Top Cover. 2. Open Print Engine Clamshell (2 latches).
2. Plug power cord into receptacle located just below power switch.
Connect Printer to Computer
CAUTION
Plug USB cable from computer plugs into printer’s USB port [2]. Network port [3].
HOLD ONTO BOTH LATCHES WHEN OPENING AND CLOSING CLAMSHELL TO PREVENT DAMAGE. DO NOT ALLOW CLAMSHELL TO DROP OR SLAM CLOSED. TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO INK LINES, A STOP LIMITS RAISING CLAMSHELL MORE THAN 60°.
DO NOT CONNECT USB CABLE OR NETWORK CABLE YET. DO NOT TURN PRINTER POWER SWITCH [1] ON YET.
3. Remove cardboard Transport Tab insert. 4. Close and latch Clamshell. Close Top Cover.

3. Install Printer Software. Click “Install Printer Software”.
Step 4 Print Driver Installation Minimum System Requirements:
Operating System: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8/8.1. Supports 32 and 64 bit systems. (Must have administrative privileges on system.) NOTE: Win 8 and 8.1 will only work in desktop mode. No Win 8 metro apps will be supported (applications that work in a Win 8 only environment).
Microprocessor: Pentium II, 2 GHz minimum (Pentium Dual Core, 2.5 GHz or better, is optimal).
System memory: 2 GB minimum; or as recommended for your operating system.
Free hard-disk space: At least 10 GB.
Browsers: Firefox recommended; Chrome, Safari, and Opera also supported.
CD/DVD drive.
USB 2.0 port (ports are identified as “USB2” or “Enhanced” in Device Manager)
Microsoft .Net Framework version 3.5 (for 32 bit systems) or Microsoft .Net Framework version 4 (for 64 bit systems) must be installed. NOTE: Even if a higher .NET Framework version is installed; version 3.5 or 4 must also be installed, or Toolbox will not open.
4. License Agreement. Check “I accept…” then click “Next>”.
5. Printer Connections. Click “Configure to print using USB”. Then click “Next>”.
IMPORTANT: Before installing Printer software, temporarily disable all antivirus programs and firewalls. In addition, you must be logged onto system with full administrative privileges (admin rights). 1. Printer is plugged in and turned OFF. Disconnect USB connection if plugged in. Insert “AstroJet M-2 Printer Drivers and Instructions” disk into CD/DVD drive.
6. Installing Printer Software. 2. AutoPlay Window. Click “Run Setup.exe”.

7. Would You Like to Install This Device Software? Click “Install”.
Step 5 Leveling Printer Printer must be level front-to-back and left-to-right (side-to-side). Make sure surface Printer is placed on is flat and level. NOTE: Steps 4 & 5 are optional if Printer Driver is installed. 1. Open Top Cover.
8. Connect Device Now. Switch Printer ON and connect USB cable. Don’t click on either button. Software finishes installing.
2. Left-to-Right (Side-to-Side Check Bubble Gauge on front bridge of Print Engine. NOTE: If no Bubble Gauge is mounted, place a small level (9" or smaller) across front bridge of Print Engine as shown [A]. (If level does not fit on front bridge, place level on rear bridge frame on Print Engine.) Adjust feet/rollers as necessary to level Printer. NOTE: Level(s) must be placed on Print Engine or Print Engine frame (not on Printer cabinet) to get an accurate reading.
9. Finished software installation. Do not check Print Test Page (Printer is not set up yet). You can check “Set this printer as the default printer” at this time. Click “Next>”.
3. Front-to-Back: Place level on either Print Engine Side Frame [B]. Adjust Printer feet/rollers as necessary to level Printer. NOTE: May have to repeat Steps 2 & 3 several times to level Printer.
10. Install Printer Software. Click “Exit”.
4. If Printer Driver is installed, use Printer Toolbox to check Left-to-Right and Front-toBack are level. Go to Start Menu, then open “Toolbox”. 11. Restart computer to complete installation.

5. User Interface screen: find “Tilt” in top left corner. Reading for Front-to-Back (FB) and Left-to-Right (LR) should be “0” or very close to zero. If Tilt readings are black or purple, Printer is ready to operate. If readings are red, level Printer again.
Step 6 Install Ink Tanks Printer uses one Printhead Cartridge and five Ink Tanks (two Black, one Cyan, one Magenta, and one Yellow). 1. Open Printer Toolbox. Go to Start Menu, then open “Toolbox”. System Status information is in upper left corner of User Interface window. Note that Ink Level “CKMYK” boxes are empty.
2. Click “Replace Ink Tanks” on User Interface screen. Once “Confirm” screen displays, it is safe to proceed.
6. Adjusting Casters. Use wrench (included) to loosen large nut on top of caster [C]. Adjust caster to desired height, then tighten nut so it snugs up against bottom of Printer.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT press “Continue” until after installing Ink Tank(s) and closing Ink Tank Latches. 3. Open Front Cover (hinged at bottom). Open three Latches [A].
4. Remove Ink Tank(s) from packaging.

5. Insert new Ink Tanks (labels up) into appropriate color slots [B]. Close three Ink Tank Latches.
Step 7 Install Printhead Cartridge Printhead Cartridge is a delicate precision device. Handle with extreme care.
CAUTION
INSTALLATION TIP: Make sure Ink Tanks seat properly. Insert Ink Tank into appropriate Ink Station, then pull Ink Tank back about an inch and push forward firmly to insure that Ink Nozzles penetrate seals on Ink Tanks.
Use ESD protection when handling.
Hold Printhead Cartridge by handles ONLY.
DO NOT touch ink couplings, nozzle surface or electrical contacts.
DO NOT unpack Printhead Cartridge until Printer is ready for installation. Once unwrapped, delay in installing Printhead can compromise print quality.
DO NOT place an unwrapped Printhead on any surface before installing. Protect Printhead from dust, fibers, dirt and other contaminants at all times.
1. With Printer power ON, open Top Cover. Press Printhead Latch Release button [1]. Printer runs, then Printhead Latch pops open [2]. Remove Cap Protectors [3]. Open Printhead Latch fully to retract Ink Nozzles.
6. Click “Refresh Ink Levels” on User Interface screen. Ink colors fill in as Ink Tanks are installed. If ink colors do not fill in after a few seconds, click “Replace Ink Tanks” again and reinstall Ink Tank(s).
7. Close Front Cover.
WARNING! INK IN INK TANKS MAY BE HARMFUL IF SWALLOWED. KEEP NEW AND USED INK TANKS OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. DISCARD EMPTY INK TANKS IMMEDIATELY.
CAUTION DO NOT PRY OR MANUALLY LIFT PRINTHEAD LATCH OR LATCH MAY BREAK. ONLY OPEN LATCH USING RELEASE BUTTON ON PRINTER OR PRINTHEAD RELEASE COMMANDS IN PRINTER TOOLBOX.

2. Carefully remove Printhead Cartridge from foil packaging.
4. Open Print Engine Clamshell. Moisten Printhead nozzles using distilled water and a damp, lint-free cloth. Wipe end to end. (Gray strip located below orange strip.) Close and latch Print Engine Clamshell.
CAUTION
3. Carefully insert Cartridge into compartment at an angle (as shown) [4]. Once seated, gently tilt Cartridge back until it snaps into position [5]. DO NOT FORCE Cartridge into position.
WARNING! TO AVOID ELECTRICAL SHOCK AND SHORTING: Before installing Printhead, make sure nozzles are hydrated and contacts are DRY!

5. Close Printhead Latch [6]. Printer starts up and primes ink into Printhead. (May take a few minutes.) Make sure ink is flowing through hoses.
6. Watch Toolbox screen. When Printer stops processing and all fields in System Status are black, Printer is ready for use. Close Top Cover.
Step 8 Operating Buttons Control Panel has 5 buttons.
FEED TABLE CONTROLS: 2 left-hand buttons control Feed Table: Up/Stop, Down/Stop. UP/STOP – Raises Feed Table for loading and positioning media. Stops automatically or press again to stop manually at any time. DOWN/STOP – Lowers Feed Table for loading and positioning media. Stops automatically or press again to stop manually.
NOTE: Printer may take up to 12 minutes to set itself up during initial startup. This is normal.
PRINTER CONTROLS: 3 right-hand buttons control Printer: Power, Pause/Resume and Cancel.
POWER (ON/OFF) – Turns Printer power ON and OFF. Turn power OFF for cleaning and maintenance. PAUSE/RESUME (STOP JOB/RESUME) – Stops Paper Feed or Resumes Printing.
Press to Stop Paper Feed Immediately. Printer will clear media in Printer and stop.
Press to Resume Printing. Restart printing after a paper feed error (such as a paper jam or running out of paper).
CANCEL (CANCEL JOB) – Cancels a Job.

Press to Cancel a Job. Once Printer has stopped, pressing this button clears job from Printer and Print Queue in Driver. NOTE: Cancelled Jobs must be reloaded before printing can resume.
4. Adjust Feed for Media Thickness. Media Thickness Adjustment Knob [H] sets uppermost stopping point of Feed Table to accommodate single sheets or heavier card stock/cardboard. (Media thickness – 0.004"/0.1 mm to 0.020"/0.5 mm thick) NOTE: Indicator provides a quick visual check of setting: Up = thicker setting, Flush with surface = single sheet setting. Single Sheet: Turn Thickness Adjustment Knob counterclockwise until it stops. Cardstock/Cardboard: Turn Thickness Adjustment Knob clockwise until it stops. 5. Press “Up” Button until top sensor stops platform automatically.
Step 9 Loading Media
WARNING! HAZARDOUS MOVING PARTS KEEP HANDS, HAIR AND BODY PARTS AWAY!
CAUTION TO AVOID RISK OF INJURY OR DAMAGE DO NOT PLACE ITEMS ON SURFACE UNDER FEED TRAY!
1. Press “Up” or “Down” button to move Feed Table [A] to approximate height needed to hold amount of media being loaded.
6. Adjust Media Guide Assembly. Loosen side knob to adjust Guide [I] to media length.
2. Slide one or both Media Supports [B] into place depending on media width used.
7. Adjust Rear Side Media Guide [J] to media width. Retighten knobs.
3. Adjust Side Guide [C]. Place a stack of media on table. Make sure media is flush against the Fixed Side Guide [C1], NOT the rear wall of the Feed Area; severe Printer damage may result. Position Adjustable Side Guide to within 1/32" from edge of media. For narrow media see below: Open Feed Roller Assembly. Loosen two thumbscrews [D] and slide latches back [arrows]. Open Feed Roller Assembly [E]. Note that two Sheet Separators [F] have a tab [G] located below. Depress 1 or 2 Separators, and push down tabs to lock Separators in place. Now you can slide Side Guide to desired media width. Close and latch Feed Roller Assembly.
Step 10 For instructions on installing Accessories and Printer set-up or operation, please refer to “AstroJet M2 Color Page Printer Operator Manual” in Print Driver CD supplied with Printer.
Finish loading media.
NOTE: Feeder may not feed larger and heavier media when stack is full. Amount of media that can be stacked on Printer is determined by weight of material. If so, reduce amount of media in stack until Feeder functions properly.
