USB 2.0 CF Reader/Writer Quick Installation Guide Introducing the USB 2.0 CF Reader/Writer The USB 2.0 CF Reader/Writer is designed for USB 2.0/1.1equipped computers running on either Windows or MAC operating systems. It allows computers to read and write to CompactFlashTM memory cards or IBM MicrodriveTM. And it works and appears just like a removable drive. Designed for various types of devices using CompactFlash memory cards and IBM Microdrives including digital camcorders/cameras, PDAs, MP3 players, handheld computers and more... Note: This reader only achieves USB 2.0 speed when connected to a working USB 2.0 port. If it's connected to a USB 1.1 port, it will operate at USB 1.1 speed. Please follow the instructions below to install it to your desktop or notebook PC. Connecting the Reader/Writer There are two ways to connect this reader/writer to your system's USB 2.0/1.1 port: Direct Connection Connect the reader/writer directly to your system's USB port. Figure 1. Connecting reader/writer to USB port 2 Connect using included USB cable 1. Connect the USB cable to your system's USB port. This USB cable has two different connectors. Only one connector fits your system's USB port. Figure 2. Connecting the USB cable to USB port 2. Connect the other connector of the USB cable to the reader/ writer. Figure 3. Connecting the USB cable to reader/writer 3 Inserting memory cards to the Reader/Writer CompactFlash memory cards and IBM Microdrives are keyed for proper and easy insertion into the card reader with minimum pressure. Make sure the CompactFlash memory cards and IBM Microdrives face up when inserted. Figure 4. Inserting memory card to reader/writer Hardware installation is now complete. Please proceed to software installation. Software Installation Throughout Windows driver installation, you may be prompted to insert Windows Installation CD. Some files on this CD are neccessary to complete driver installation. Please insert CD when prompted and follow on-screen instructions. Note: This reader only achieves USB 2.0 speed when connected to a working USB 2.0 port. If it's connected to a USB 1.1 port, it will operate at USB 1.1 speed. Windows 98SE Installation 1. Boot to Windows. 2. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, click Cancel. 3. Insert the Driver CD into your CD-ROM drive. 4 4. Click Start, then Run. Click Browse, choose your CD-ROM drive, double click CF Reader folder, double click Setup.exe, and click OK. 5. Select Choose Setup Component, and click Next. 6. Click OK. 7. Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now, click Finish to complete installation. Windows ME/2000/XP Installation Windows ME, 2000 and XP have built-in driver for your reader/ writer. Once it is connected, the driver will install automatically. If prompted by Windows, restart your system. This reader/writer should now show up in My Computer as a removable disk. If the reader doesn't show up properly, remove it and re-insert it while in Windows. Mac OS 9.x or later Installation Mac OS 9.x and later operating systems have built-in driver for your reader. Simply connect the reader and the driver will install automatically. This reader should now show up on your desktop when the memory card is properly inserted. Accessing the Reader/Writer Read and write This reader can be read from and written to just any drive in your system. Please use the same rules to transfer files to/from this reader/writer. Removing the memory cards For Windows operating systems, you can remove the memory card from the reader at anytime. For MAC operating systems, before removing the memory card from the reader, click and drag the disk icon to the trash box, then pull the card out. 5 Technical Support QUESTIONS? Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) SIIG warrants to the original buyer of the product that the hardware is free of defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one, two or five years from the date of purchase. If your product fails to be in good working order during the warranty period, you may return it to SIIG for repair or replacement at SIIG's option. To return the product, you need to follow these steps: Step 1: Contact SIIG's RMA Department To obtain an RMA number, SIIG's RMA Department can be reached by phone at (510)413-5333 or fax at (510)657-5962 or email at [email protected]. In order to issue an RMA number, the product serial number is required. This number can be found on the side of the box and on the back of the product. Step 2: Complete the RMA form • Fill out your Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) form, and include it in the package with the product. • Properly pack the product for shipping. All software, cable(s) and other accessories that came with the original package must be included. • Clearly write your RMA number on the top of the returned package and on the accompanying RMA form. SIIG will refuse to accept any shipping package, and will not be responsible for a product returned without an RMA number posted on the outside of the shipping carton. Step 3: Ship the Product You are responsible for the cost of shipping back to SIIG at the following address: SIIG, Inc.
