1 Introduction 1.1 What is the Plantronics Plugin for IBM Sametime? Plantronics Plugin for Sametime – Simply Smarter Communications Office based Collaboration solutions have the power to improve the way we work by helping people work smarter and drive business benefits by improving personal and group productivity through instant connectivity and better socialization amongst colleagues, while reducing operating costs. IBM Sametime® software provides users a unified user experience across a broad range of integrated real-time communications services—voice, data and video, from IM to Online meetings, VoIP and telephony integration Plantronics Plugin for IBM Sametime integrates the call control functions of Plantronics headsets with IBM Sametime.
1.2 Plantronics headsets call control features for Sametime The latest Plantronics plugin software plugs into IBM Sametime for use with Plantronics’ UC audio devices, and provides users with enhanced audio quality and connectivity including: 1.

Control Sametime calls remotely from the Headset: Answer/end, mute and volume control features allows you to gain hands-free mobility directly from the audio device if you need to roam away from your desk, or are multi-tasking whilst on Sametime /SUT Calls. Place Sametime calls on hold remotely from the headset: Put your Sametime Caller on hold so you can conduct business privately and know your caller is secure and your parallel conversation is totally confidential. Smart Sensor Wearing State: This feature available with Plantronics headsets equipped with Smart Sensors answers calls automatically as soon as headset is placed on the ear. Mobile telephony presence: Enhances Sametime by eliminating the ‘blind spot’ in Sametime by changing Sametime ‘presence’ status to ‘On Phone’ when a user is on a mobile call or a desk phone call. This requires no user intervention as the headset solution automatically detects the call status and changes the presence status in Sametime.

2 Supported Devices and Platforms This Sametime plugin software supports a wide portfolio of Plantronics audio headsets and phones. Supported Plantronics devices:

3 Installation If you have an older version of Plantronics software like Plantronics Spokes, Plantronics PersonoSuite or an older of the Plantronics Sametime plugin, you must uninstall them first.
3.1 Installation steps for Windows 1. Make sure Sametime, SUT or Sametime embedded in Notes is already installed. 2. Exit Sametime, SUT, or Sametime embedded in Lotus Notes programs until the installation is complete. 3. Start the installation by double-clicking on Plantronics Plugin for IBM Sametime for Windows installer available on Plantronics.com software download page and complete the installation steps. 3.1.1. Installing Plantronics Hub for Windows (optional) Plantronics Plugin for Sametime/SUT for Windows only provides remote call control with supported Plantronics headsets. You may optionally also install Plantronics Hub for Windows software which will provide additional functionality such as changing settings on your headset, wireless headset battery charge level indicator, remote call control with many other softphones and firmware update capability. You may download Plantronics Hub for Windows software from the Plantronics enterprise software download page.
3.2 Installation steps for Mac Before installing this plugin, you must first uninstall any previous versions of the plugin such as Plantronics Spokes for Mac v1.6. 1.
Make sure IBM Sametime, SUT or Sametime embedded in Notes is already installed

Exit Sametime, SUT, or Sametime embedded in Notes programs until the installation is complete.

Start the installation by double-clicking on Plantronics Plugin for IBM Sametime for Mac installer available on Plantronics.com software download page and complete the installation steps.

Install Plantronics Hub for Mac. You may download Plantronics Hub for Mac software from the Plantronics enterprise software download page. Please note that although Plantronics Hub software is optional on Windows, it is required on Mac. Plantronics Hub for Mac will provide additional functionality such as changing settings on your headset, wireless headset battery charge level indicator, remote call control with many other softphones and firmware update capability.

4 Configuring Sametime for use with your Audio headset Configuring your Sametime Connect client for use with the Plantronics headset involves setting the default audio device for Telephony and Audio. Ensure your headset is fully charged (if wireless) and be sure that your Plantronics headset is connected to the computer either via the USB cable or through the USB adaptor provided with your wireless Plantronics headsets. Then proceed with the following steps:
4.1 Selecting your Plantronics headset as the default audio device Ensure your Sametime Connect Client is running, select Preferences and choose “Voice and Video” from the selection on the left and set Microphone, Speakers and Ringing (optional) to your Plantronics headset:
4.2 Setting your Sametime Preferences to automatically change when using your headset The Plantronics Plugin software for Sametime allows you to have your Sametime ‘Status’ description automatically updated when you are using the device. It will automatically change your ‘presence’ status description when your call starts and will change it back when your call ends. To change the text that will be appended to your Sametime status description 1.

Enable status description updates by selecting the relevant option, and setting the status description text to what you wish. Sametime Call status updates are made when using the Sametime client for Sametime peer to peer, Sametime TCSPI or SUT calls. Mobile or desk phone call: Your Plantronics multi-interface headsets that can connect to your PC as well as your mobile and/or your desk phone can now modify your Sametime presence status when you are on a call on your mobile phone or desk phone. Multi-Softphone Status: The Plantronics Plugin for Sametime plugin can modify your Sametime presence status when you are on a call using a different softphone. For example, if you are on a Skype call, Sametime could indicate that you are “in a call”.
