E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS 1 EOP-D68-003-002-08E DANGER Dangerous Characteristics for Ozone Treatment Ozone has powerful oxidation effect, and it is used for many kinds of substance by the reaction, such as Oxidation/Dissolution, Sterilization and etc, but it is also informed that Ozone has 'Toxicity' for human bodies. Therefore, any exposure by Ozone should be free from the leakage on the piping connections for Ozone sampling system and/or the wetted parts, and also the related equipments. The following table shows the effects, for Ozone concentration to human bodies. Biological influences caused by ozone Ozone concentration [ppm] Influences Sensible odor (with the sense of smell becoming gradually accustomed to the smell) 0.1 Strong odor stimulant to the nose and throat. 0.2 ~ 0.5 Eyesight weakens by 3 to 6 hour's exposure. 0.5 Apparently stimulant to the upper respiratory tract. Exposure for 2 hours presents a headache, a pain in the chest, and thirsty 1 ~ 2 at the upper respiratory tract and coughing. Repeatable exposures will lead to chronic toxicities. 5 ~ 10 Increase of pulses and pulmonary edema will be caused. 15 ~ 20 Small animals will die within 2 hours. 50 Life of man will be jeopardized in one hour. 'Report on Ozone Processing' by Japan Water Works Association, August 1984, P. 40 0.01 ~ 0.02 Threshold limit value: Japan : 0.1 [ppm] (recommendation by Japan Society for Occupational Health)(2010 - 2011) * USA : 0.1 [ppm] TLV of TWA by ACGIH (1993 - 1994) * TLV : Threshold Limit Value TWA : Time Weighted Average Concentration ACGIH : American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS 2 EOP-D68-003-002-08E DANGER This instrument is not constructed by standard of explosion proof. If you used the monitor in the place where combustible gas or inflammable gas is floating in the environment, this can cause explosion. Do not use the monitor surely in these places. WARNING  If there is ozone smell, confirm whether the ozone monitor has an enclosure crack, piping damage and slackness on joints or not after when power switch turned off.  High voltage power supply (Steady state: about 200 V AC and Starting state: about 1000 V AC in a moment) for the mercury lamp is built in the monitor, so that you may have an electrical shock when perform adjustment and repairing inside of the monitor. Do perform it with specialist.  If you opened the front panel under when an electric power is supplied, you may have a chance which can receive UV ray from the mercury lamp with burning light inside. Use protective gear such as UV protective glasses and avoid looking at UV ray directly.  When replacing the parts, do it after the power source shut down. E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS 3 EOP-D68-003-002-08E CAUTION Caution items when put the monitor in use  Do not affect a shock and/or vibration to this monitor, this instrument is a precise equipment.  Regarding accident and trouble that had happened as a result of remodeling or modifying the monitor, we cannot take the responsibility, even if it is in the warranty term.  Sealing materials such as joint and packing etc. which are used in the monitor, are not intended to be effective permanently. These materials are deteriorated by ozone gas and other material and this may cause in ozone gas leakage. Perform the increased tightening of the joints and check and replace these materials regularly (every 1~2 years) by our service man.  When a sample gas measurement is finished, it should be discharged after decomposing ozone.  Never introduce a sample which has high pressure than its specification limit into the monitor. This would cause a leak or trouble. To confirm its specification and also to perform routine inspection are needed.  In case of removing the monitor from the related device when maintenance and etc, confirm that there is not the residual ozone (the indicating value of the ozone concentration is 0) and perform the works after when the power supply shut down. Still more, even for replacing the parts, perform this works after turning off the power supply surely.  If the sample gas contains materials other than ozone, such as hydrogen fluoride and moisture, the inner part of the monitor which is exposed to gas may be eroded, damaged, clouded or rusted. In case that the monitor had trouble and it becomes impossible to measure ozone by influence of another material, take care that the monitor will not be guaranteed, even if it is in the warranty term.  If contamination from output of the monitor is exhausted and it has a problem, to attach a filter or to do the piping and/or suitable management should be performed.  Be sure to fix the monitor, even if it is put on the floor.  Be sure to take a caution when working with the monitor under power supplying or soon after when power turned off, because surface of the part in the inside (including parts installed on PCB) is in high temperature.  There is a life to the parts used inside of the monitor. If they have elapsed since the replacing term limit, this matter may be related to cause of trouble on the other parts. Do perform its maintenance periodically.  The low-pressure mercury lamp as consumable part contains harmful component to the humans, so that the used lamp should be scrapped in accordance with your local regulation.  Do not drop the low-pressure mercury lamp, do not throw a material against it (affected with weight) and do not add with unreasonable stress and flawed, because it is a glass product.  Our EG-700EⅢ Ozone Monitor is another model of ozone monitor which has a very similar appearance to the model EG-700EⅣ, but it is used for measuring a low-concentration ozone gas. These monitors use different component parts, therefore make sure to handle the monitor appropriately checking the product name plate. E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS 6 EOP-D68-003-002-08E 1 General description The EG-700EⅣ Ozone Monitor (referred to as monitor throughout this manual) is a small, light-weight ozone monitor which enables wide range measurement of ozone concentration using UV absorption method. You can select a measuring range from 0 ~ 20ppm, 0 ~ 50ppm, 0 ~ 100ppm and 0 ~ 200ppm. This monitor regularly introduces zero gas and performs zero point correction to provide stable measurement of low-concentration ozone gas. Simply connecting a tube to the connection point “SAM” and turning on the power will start measurement, activating the built-in pump which sucks in a sample gas. 2 Measuring principle This monitor is a UV absorption type ozone monitor which can detect and measure quantity of absorption of UV rays by ozone in the sample gas (ozone leakage) introduced into the detector. A low-pressure mercury lamp (emission wavelength 253.7 nm) is used for the light source. As the quantum of light absorbed by ozone existing within the optical path 'T' obeys the Lambert-Beer's Law, concentration of ozone can be measured as follows. C= A  Io  × log  αT  Ix  where : C α T Io Ix A = Ozone concentration = Specific absorption coefficient = Path length of cell = Light intensity through the sample free of Ozone = Light intensity passed through sample Ozone = Constant lamp senso r 1 ozone T se nsor 2 Figure- 1 E.J. (3) After warming-up operation Status LED will turn off. ~ In order to measure in steady state ~ 10 minutes for above warming-up operation is the minimum required time in order to allow the monitor to make a steady condition of the low-pressure mercury lamp in the ozone monitor, Model EG-700EⅣ. If you would like to measure and to detect ozone concentration under more stable state condition, you have to measure the concentration after operating it for three hours. When output signal of the equipment is transmitted to the sequencer, make the setting so as to introduce the output after operating the monitor over than one hour. We recommend you that the monitor is always under condition that power is supplying, except not using it for long term. 8.2 Measurement (1) After when warming-up operation has finished, Measurement (MES.)LED lightening, the monitor automatically start to measure ozone concentration. (2) Measured value of ozone gas concentration is indicated on the display. (3) And then, analog outputs (voltage / current) proportional to measured value of ozone gas will generate and transmit. (4) After measurement, ozone gas is discharged through the sample outlet (OUT). Before discharging ozone gas, it should be treated by the ozone gas destructor. CAUTION  If contaminant from the outlet for sample gas becomes a problem, take a measure such as attaching a filter and arranging an extra piping to solve the problem.  After measurement, ozone must be decomposed by the ozone gas destructor before discharging a sample gas. Use the ozone gas destructor which has a low pressure loss (within ±1.47 kPa). (Make the sample outlet atmospheric pressure.) 9 Span calibration As this equipment was designed and manufactured paying attention to take a high stability on the electronic circuit operation and still more the monitor was calibrated when shipping so that changing the calibration ratio and/or adjusting the equipment is not required over again. If the measured value is different from value that it is gotten by analyzing the Ozone gas and if it has to fit the analyzed one, perform its calibration according the following procedure. E.J. OZONE PRODUCTS 23 EOP-D68-003-002-08E (1) Perform a warming operation plentifully. (2) Supply ozone sample gas to the monitor. (3) The measured value should be recorded after when indication of the monitor becomes to be in steady state.
