Post SuisseID as smart card: Installation instructions for Linux System requirements To use the Post SuisseID as smart card you need the following:
A Post SuisseID in credit card format; A smart card reader (card reader not delivered by us. If necessary you can order a card reader in our shop); A password page (sent separately by post); An Internet connection; A computer with Linux Ubuntu, openSUSE or Fedora; Administrator rights (sudo).
Software installation 1.
Carry out the following steps on every computer on which you want to use your Post SuisseID. Connect the USB reader to your PC via a USB port.

On our website click on the link for the installation software for Linux.

Open the file with the
and the content at any chosen location on the system. Then click on .
Go to the directory postsuisseid-lin-1.0 and run the script install.sh in the terminal there.
The setup will start. Follow the instructions of the Setup Wizard.
Initialisation During installation your chip card is checked to see if it is ready for use. If it is not (replacement or first purchase), this needs to be initialised once according to the following points. Otherwise the installation can be concluded at point 6.

Remove the seal A according to the instructions on the back of the PIN page. Turn the page and enter the number in the Initial PIN field. Please note: After three unsuccessful attempts your card will be blocked permanently!

Now select a personal 6 to 12-digit PIN known only to you which you can easily remember and enter this in the “PIN” field. Suitable as a PIN are alphanumeric (letters in upper/lower case) and numeric characters (1, 2, 3, 4 etc.) without special characters (+/-$? etc.). Avoid a PIN with a connection to you in some way, e.g. dates of birth, car licence numbers etc. Repeat the PIN you entered and then click on .

After you have successfully set the new PIN your certificates will be downloaded automatically and stored on the chip card. When this is concluded close the window with . Your Post SuisseID is now ready for use and can be used immediately with Windows applications.
