PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT (PPE) Safety glasses or face shield must be worn at all times in work areas.
Long and loose hair must be tied back
Appropriate footwear must be worn. Shoe must be fully enclosed. No open toed shoes.
Close fitting/protective clothing must be worn. Remove strings hanging from pullovers/sweaters.
Rings and jewelry (long necklaces / bracelets, etc.) must not be worn.
Hearing protection must be worn when using this machine.

DO NOT use this machine unless a teacher has instructed you in its safe use and operation and has given permission. PRE-OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS: 1. Check workspaces and walkways to ensure no slip/trip hazards are present. 2. Locate and ensure you are familiar with the operation of the ON/OFF starter and E-Stop (if fitted). 3. Use only materials free from defects. 4. Check for proper blade size and type. Machine must be isolated while blades are being installed. 5. Do not operate the saw if the unless adequately guarded. Repair / replace guards as necessary. 6. Do not store tools and parts on top of the machine. 7. Faulty equipment must not be used. Immediately report suspect machinery to your teacher.

OPERATIONAL SAFETY CHECKS: 1. Never leave the machine running unattended. Do not leave the machine until the blade has come to a complete stop. 2. Before making adjustments switch off and bring the machine to a complete standstill. 8. Stop the machine before removing scrap pieces from the table. 3. Always keep hands and fingers away from the blade. Always use a push stick for ripping narrow stock. 4. Never stand or have any part of your body in line with the path of the saw blade. 5. Never use the miter and fence together. 6. Never reach behind or over the cutting tool with either hand for any reason. 7. Feed work into a blade or cutter, against the direction of rotation of the blade or cutter only. 8. Never attempt to free a stalled saw blade without first turning the saw off. 9. Hold work firmly against the miter gage or fence. Avoid awkward operations and hand positions where a sudden slip could cause your hand to move into the cutting tool. 10. Turn off the machine if the material is to be backed out of an uncompleted cut. 11. Always use the guard, splitter and anti kickback fingers. Ensure they are free from defects and accumulation of wood dust and debris. 12. Use local exhaust ventilation and or wear recommended respiratory protection.
OPERATING THE TABLE SAW: 1. Don all personal protective equipment: safety glasses / face shield, hearing protection, proper footwear (closed toe / heal shoes). Remove all jewelry; loose clothing and tie back hair. 2. Ensure the 0n/Off switch is in the “off” position and plug the machine into properly grounded power source. 3. Place material to be cut onto the table, well away from the blade. Ask for assistance when carrying long heavy lumber. Provide adequate support to the rear and sides of the table saw for wide or long work pieces. 4. Inspect work piece for nails or other foreign materials before cutting / ripping. 5. Adjust height of blade according to stock thickness: - With machine at complete stop, unlock the front hand wheel and rotate the hand wheel clockwise to raise the blade. Adjust the blade height to 1/8 inch above the thickness of stock. - Lock the hand wheel by turning the hand knob extending from the hand wheel shaft. 6. Cutting material: a) Turn on power and let machine come to full speed. Never start the saw with the blade in contact with the stock. b) Use a guard with a spreader and anti-kickback fingers. Keep body/face to one side of the line of the saw blade. c) Use both hands to hold the material firmly against the miter gauge or rip fence to position and guide the cut. Avoid performing "free hand" sawing operations, always use either the fence or the miter gage to position and guide the work not both.

d) Feed work piece slowly into and against the direction of the saw blade rotation. Do not apply too much pressure against saw blade, use light contact with the blade. e) Maintain a 10cm (4 inch) distance from the blade with fingers and use a push stick when finishing narrow cuts against a fence. Keep fingers off the cutting line. f) Push machine stop button and wait for saw blade to stop. Turn the lockout switch to off, before freeing work piece. 7. When work has been completed, turn off the saw and stay till machine comes to a complete stop. Turn the lockout switch to off, before freeing work piece. 8. Remove material from the table and clean the area. If there is a lot of saw dust, wear a dust mask while cleaning the area.
