Backup system PC – Frequently asked questions Preliminary remarks The answers to the questions below are summarized and do not consider all details and exceptions.
From which system PC should a backup be made?
What happens to a backup held by Schlatter?
From all systems.
The delivered backup is tested and saved on our server. Nothing more is done with the data and the data are not forwarded to third parties. Before delivering a replacement PC or hard drive, the backup is installed and tested with an appropriate control and structurally identical weld processor.
The PCs of which systems should be backed up first? Of most importance are older PC’s. Basically the more often system parameters or mesh data are enhanced/altered, the more often a back up should be made How often should system PCs be backed up? The more new weld programmes are created and existing programmes or system parameters are adjusted, the shorter the intervals should be. Why shouldSchlatter Industries receive a backup? In the event of an unsolvable system problem, Schlatter can use a backup to simulate both the unit as well as the reported error, and find the cause. Furthermore in the event of a PC or hard drive crash, Schlatter can provide a replacement PC/hard drive for HP7600, 7800, 8200 or the application of the same level as the last backup. Should no current backup be available, any changes to the system, configuration, mesh and history data since the last backup will be irrevocably lost or reset to delivery state.
Can Schlatter create the backups for me? Upon request we will delegate a service technician who will create the backup. This will be invoiced at cost. Which data are stored during a backup? The application (PLS, PLSWin), the system configuration and mesh data. Settings or changes in the operating system are not saved (e.g. settings of network, printer installations, etc.). What storage media can I use for the backup? This depends on the PC generation. Further information can be found on our homepage:http://www.schlattergroup.com/en/se rvices/upgrades/backup

The PC drive is defective. Can this be replaced as well?
Can the backup be automatically created periodically?
Aside from the hard drive for the models HP7600, 7800 and 8200, Schlatter does not deliver replacement parts for PC components.
PCs with Windows 2000 and Windows XP create a backup on the hard drive before automatic start-up of PLS and/or PLSWin. Should a memory stick be inserted, the backup is also stored there. If the memory stick is not bootable, it may be left inserted. On every day that the PC is started up, a backup is then stored on the memory stick.
The PC drive is defective. Can the hard drive be dismantled to make a copy? Copying a hard drive requires a specialist. Otherwise there is the risk that the entire installation can be destroyed. In this case Schlatter does not offer any guarantee and cannot provide support. For PC models HP7600, 7800 and 8200 another hard drive may be ordered from Schlatter. The hard drive is housed in a special casing within the PC, and can simply be replaced. What is the procedure if the PC crashes and there is no backup, or no valid backup?
A procedure according to instructions does not provide the desired result, so how can a backup be created? In this case, please contact the Schlatter helpdesk: T +41 44 732 74 20 F +41 44 732 71 20

The system must be newly programmed, loaded and activated on site. For older systems with a Siemens S5 or other, older controls, reconstruction requires a new control system.
