Biographical/Administrative History: The Newsboys’ Club was set up in about 1939 to provide a social outlet for those boys who sold newspapers on the streets of Cork. Archival History: Donated to Archives in 2005.
CONTENT AND STRUCTURE Scope and Content: Records include minutes of the Club openings and of the meetings of the Executive Committee, 1942-1957, registers of members 1954-1955, photograph album. The registers of members and minutes may contain information about members and access to these is restricted. Of interest to to the study of the social history of Cork in the 1940s and 1950s.

Includes: 8 September 1951: Saturday morning mass at St. Mary’s, Pope’s Quay and breakfast for 50 boys consisting of porridge, tea and meat sandwiches, bread and jam. 12 Feb 1953: 23 boys and 4 helpers. Complaint of excessive noise 11 May 1954: Homes of absent boys to be visited 26 April 1957: Last time minutes taken in Lavitt’s Quay, after 17 years.
