Field Service
Field Service Scheduled servicing and preventive maintenance are among the principal tasks of our technical staff. Additional services include troubleshooting, on-site repairs and even consulting and providing information about equipment design and revamping, etc. Our customer-service technicians undergo regular training and are kept abreast of all application-specific special features.

Repair and Factory Remanufacturing
Repair and Remanufacturing in Our Shops Our aim is to ensure that your equipment will be back in working order as quickly as possible. So we regularly check demand, locations and processes, evaluate trends and expand our worldwide network as needed. Today Leybold offers one of the most far-reaching service networks in the vacuum-technology world. In the forevacuum realm we now provide a nearly full line of services at all our locations. For our smaller remanufacturing locations we will send certain products e.g. Turbomolecular Pumps to regional centers.
To ensure highly reliable, completest possible remanufacturing we proceed in 3 steps: Step 1: we carefully clean and dismantle the vacuum components, noting any signs of wear or defects. Step 2: we replace with genuine Leybold parts any that we find to be defective or in danger of failing in the foreseeable future. Step 3: After the pump has been reassembled, it is subjected to various tests like those used in series production, with the result that you get back a reconditioned product as good as new.
Naturally, our worldwide service shops are tied into our internal quality system and transmit to that system all information about worn or defective items. Through our regular training and audits we ensure, for instance, that all safety regulations are adhered to and that all work is done by properly trained personnel and in accordance with the latest standards and requirements.

Back Up and Exchange Pools
We can develop a back up strategy to meet your needs For all failure-critical systems and processes it is customary to maintain a local buffer inventory of spare parts. As a supplement or substitute for your own store of parts, at a number of our locations throughout the world we have set up a pool of vacuum components available to be ordered and shipped on short notice. You need only specify ■ what kind of pool you prefer: one accessible only to you or your customers, or one accessible to others as well
■ whether you want to access the pool only during normal business hours or 24 x 7, with the option of ordering rush shipments We work out and arrange with you the procedures and process steps involved and then implement those arrangements worldwide. A pool usually consists of new parts or of reconditioned parts virtually as good as new.

Calibration of Vacuum Devices
Calibration of Vacuum Devices In a company certified to DIN EN ISO 9001-2000, vacuum measuring instruments and leak testers are among the measuring equipment whose calibration has to be regularly checked. For over 20 years Leybold has been a PTB 1) -accredited, DKD 2) approved provider of calibrations of absolute pressure and leak rate (registration No. DKD-02701). We are very experienced in calibrating vacuum equipment.
Leybold offers you ■ DKD calibration based on a PTB-calibrated reference sensor
Scope of the service ■ Functional testing of your equipment (at costs, if desired)
■ Factory calibration based on a DKD-calibrated reference sensor
■ Adjustment of sensors
Virtually all vacuum pressure sensors and He test leak with a gas supply are calibratable. Not calibratable, for example, are mercury-based gauges (compression vacuum meters). These are themselves regarded as standards since they are directly traceable to basic measurable quantities.
■ Preparation of a test certificate containing all data concerning traceability to national and international standards
Our certificates are world wide accepted since the leading National Metrologic Institutes (PTB, NIST, BCS, BNM etc.) acknowledge each other´s Standards and verify the equivalence via regular crosschecks.
■ Calibration
To ensure the accuracy of your processes, we recommend regular testing and recalibration of measuring instruments and leak testers as they are used in your application.
As part of that service, we calibrate all makes of vacuum measuring instrument and leak tester currently on the market, independently of their manufacturers. 1)

Training and Instruction Training and Instruction In the ever more complex situations in which our vacuum pumps are being used, an essential element is our continuous training of our staff so that we can provide you with the expected depth of consultation and convey to you the knowledge that you need. Accordingly, we train and instruct our staff by all the usual means of imparting knowledge – from hands-on practice in our training shops to the most modern methods of e-learning and web conferencing. We also offer a broad range of courses to our customers, both at our own and at their facilities. The subjects range from the basics of vacuum engineering to leak detection to training in installing, operating and troubleshooting selected products. Contracts / Standards / Safety
Contracts To enable you to plan your costs and scheduling, we offer you customized contracts (also in accordance with DIN 31051) for ■ preventive maintenance ■ scheduled maintenance ■ complete servicing ■ a backup pool ■ other services It doesn’t matter whether you are using our vacuum components only as subparts of larger systems, e.g., coaters, or as a main part of an experimental setup. In either case we can provide you with full support, either through our service engineers dispatched to your facility or on a to-order basis at one of our quick-turnaround service centers.
Standards and safety-test regulations Many of our products are subject to safety standards and regulations, e.g., CE safety standard; Pressure-Container Regulation; ATEX standard; electrical safety regulations such as VDE, UL, EN, etc. We test our products regularly. The test results are reported in our product documentation such as user manuals. Our service staff has been trained and instructed in how to test pumps and components after repair or remanufacturing so to ensure that your further use of them will be risk-free, that trouble with other system components will be reduced to a minimum, and that the existing Safety Certificates will continue to be valid.
We use only genuine Leybold parts in the maintenance and repair of our products. Genuine Leybold parts ensure that the requirements for previously issued Safety Certificates will still be met and that your operation of our equipment will be trouble-free.

Installation and Deinstallation Decontamination and Disposal
Decontamination and Disposal Our shops and field-service technicians are aware that vacuum components like the pumps used in semiconductor processes may be contaminated, so they work with due care, using the necessary safety equipment. We are also experts in the disposal of residues, removed parts, excess equipment, etc. in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
Installation and Deinstallation, Disposal Supported by the staff at our home plants, our field-service experts are available as needed to help you install, start up, move, dismantle or dispose of any type of vacuum equipment. This naturally includes expert disposal of all removed parts and materials.
