GETTING STARTED This document presents a complete product description of ASTi's high fidelity-simulated PRC117 radio panel including the basic functional description of the PRC-117 panel, use with ASTi's Voisus Server and Remote Management System, as well as detailed hardware and software descriptions. Basic Overview The PRC-117 panel provides a realistic panel user interface that works in conjunction with ASTi's radio communications software running on a Voisus Server. When the operator changes the state of the PRC-117 panel switch settings, the panel sends data through the Ethernet interface over the ACENet network to the Voisus Server. The Voisus Server software processes the switch settings and keypad sequences and converts them into control values. Then it sends panel display messages back over the ACENet network to the PRC-117 panel. PANEL FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION The PRC-117 panel features a front panel rotary mode knob, keypad and an LED display with realistic messages. Operators use the PRC-117 panel to adjust radio parameters, including: • Single Channel Tuned Frequency / Channels • Volume control and volume display • Frequency Hopsets • COMSEC functions (including CT mode and crypto alarms) • Transmit and receive power level display with live updating • Plain-text and cipher-text mode • Net preset +/- buttons to scroll through the nets defined in the comm plan • Net frequency view in detailed submenu Built-in configuration and status mode provides support for the following: • Self-test • IP address, multicast, and port settings • Link status • Set panel name The built-in handset interface provides the capability to connect a real world PRC-117 handset with PTT switch to the PRC-117 panel. This interface serves as an analog ‘feed-through’ to the ACE-RIU audio interface. An alternative is to directly connect audio ancillaries to the ACE-RIU. This option allows the use of many types of headsets, mics, speakers and PTTs. 2 Copyright © 2012 Advanced Simulation Technology inc. ASTi Simulated PRC-117 Panel Operator Guide (Ver. 1, Rev. C) 3.0. HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE OVERVIEW System Hardware QTY Description 1 Simulated PRC-117 Panel 1 Power Supply Detachable Cordset 1 DB9 Cable, Straight, 4-6 Feet A minimally configured system consists of this base hardware: (1) Voisus Server (1) ASTi Approved ACENet Ethernet Switch (1) Simulated PRC-117 Panel (1) ACE-Remote Interface Unit (ACE-RIU) (1) Headset or Handset with PTT switch Important: An ASTi simulated PRC-117 system is comprised of an integrated set of hardware and software components. Consult with an ASTi engineer before designing, expanding or upgrading your system. Copyright © 2012 Advanced Simulation Technology inc. 3 ASTi Simulated PRC-117 Panel Operator Guide (Ver. 1, Rev. C) 4.0. SYSTEM INSTALLATION Installation Technical Specifications PRC-117 • Connect up to twenty PRC-117 panels to a single Voisus Server (TBD) • From one to four PRC-117 panels can be connected to a single ACE-RIU. • Panels can be located up to 4-6 feet from their associated ACE-RIU - this is in compliance with best engineering practices relating to maximum lengths of audio and control cables. ACE-RIUs • Each ACE-RIU is identified with a unique address number that is located on the rear of the device. In addition, the connected ACE-RIUs are listed on the RMS Utilities>ACENet tab. • ACE-RIUs are connected to the ACENet network using an ASTi approved ACENet Ethernet switch. • Every ACE-RIU has four DB-9 connectors, each of which will support one panel. These connectors are named A, B, C, and D, from left-to-right. • Refer to the ACE-RIU Technical User Guide (DOC-01-TEL4-AR-UG-1) for full product details. • ACE-RIU internal jumper settings are configured for use with Telex headsets. Contact ASTi for further information on jumper settings. • Use only the ASTi 15 Volt Power Supply provided with the ACE-RIU. Using a substitute power supply may void your factory warranty. Audio / PTT Ancillaries • Only the approved version PRC-117 handset may be connected to the PRC-117 front panel. • A variety of mics, speakers, PTTs may be connected directly to the ACE-RIU. If this option is selected, an adapter cable is needed to interconnect the audio / PTT devices to the ACERIU channel. Some audio devices cannot be directly connected to an ACE-RIU channel and may require intermediate interface circuitry. 4 Copyright © 2012 Advanced Simulation Technology inc.
