Sisal Weave FITTING TIPS 1 We recommend to only have SISAL WEAVE carpets fi tted by a professional. The usual professional rules and relevant standards should be applied. • • 2 The sub-floor should be dry, smooth, clean, sound, without tears and dust. It should be shock resistant in comformity with standard VOB DIN 18365 or BS 5325. The fl oor should also be levelled with a fi ller at least 24 hours before the fi tting. 3 We recommend a 24 hour acclimatisation of the carpet in the room where it will be fi tted. The fl oor temperature should be maintained at 15° C before, during and at least 72 hours after the fi tting. The ambient moisture level should not exceed 75% and the recommended room temperature should be at least 18° C. 4 Open the packaging with care. Ensure that the carpet is not damaged with sharp tools when unpacking. Check the carpet before fi tting for possible defects. • Similar adhesives can also be used if they have been tested by the manufacturer. The processing directives of the adhesive manufacturer must always be respected. A release adhesive should never be used. The ventilation period depends on the quantity of the applied adhesive, the room and fl oor temperature. For fl oors with normal absorption the carpet can be fi tted after a ventilation period of 5 - 10 minutes. For less absorbing fl oors you should wait a bit longer. 9 For the fitting of a seam you should proceed as follows: • Both strips should be cut separately in advance (do not lay them on each other and cut through both at the same time!) • The cutting should be done from the top with a sharp knife. For a perfect seam the knife should be slightly tilted. • Always cut between the white threads. A top seam should always be avoided. 5 Fitting instructions for the installation of multiple strips. • The following points should be observed for a correct fi tting: • Due to manufacturing procedures, there is a top piece and bottom piece (male/female) • As these are very slightly different, ‘top pieces’ should never be fi tted with ‘bottom piece’ (and vice versa!) • The products can be recognised as follows: Top piece: uneven roll number Bottom piece: even roll number. • As for any other fi tting, only carpets from the same dye lot should be fi tted together. The dye lot is printed on each roll label. • Adjoining carpet strips should always be fi tted in the same direction. This is especially important for the SISAL WEAVE products. (The direction of the strips can be recognized on the production print on the back of the carpet: the text of the print should be in the same direction!) For a nice seam and to avoid fraying, both edges should be treated with a cold sealer adhesive (e.g. Roberts 8015-A Solvent Free Universal Carpet Seam Sealer or similar), before the strips are fitted www.robertsconsolidated.com 10 A freshly fi tted and glued carpet can have that typical ‘new’ smell. This smell disappears after a few days of ventilation and heating. 11 SISAL WEAVE can also be installed traditionally on grippers and underlay. This must be done in comformity with the directives of standard BS 5325. The seams should then be fi xed with a strong melting tape. The use of short pin grippers is recommended. 12 6 We recommend to fully adhere the carpet using quality adhesives. Loose fitting of SISAL WEAVE, even in small rooms, is not recommended and therefore is carried out at your own risk. 7 Intensive research allowed the adhesive industry to offer low emission and solvent free (EC1) products. The glueing of the full carpet therefore fulfi ls our strict health standards. 8 After very strict tests the manufacturers guarantee the high standards of the following products, if they are used properly (always use a glueing spatula with appropriate ridges): Manufacturer Glue type Bostik Findley Eurocol Forbo Erfurt Henkel Mapei Uzin Wakol Wulff Ridge type ArdatecT15 - Object A4 Eurostar Tex 509 Eurosafe Tex 509 Eurostar Multi 600 Greenstar 509-600-605 Thomsit T410-T440 Ultra/bond Eco 185 (Indoor) ADESILEX G19 Epoxy-PU (Outdoor) Ökoline UZ 57 D 3311 Lino-and Carpet Glue or D3309 Multi-Coll or Tex Spezial B3 B3 B3 B3 B3 B2 B3 B3 B3 B3 B2 13 We recommend the use of a protective sheet for offi ce chairs. Sisal Weave Three Ground rules: 1. Prevention rather than the cure 2. Regular care: Vacuuming and stain removal 3. Intensive cleaning The Stainsafe® f ibres of SISAL WEAVE have the property of absorbing practically no moisture. This means that dirt and spilt liquid do not penetrate the fibres and most stains can easily be removed with ordinary cleaning products. 1. Prevention rather than the cure You should avoid bringing dirt in from outside. So called ‘dirt buffers’ offer a good solution. They consist of a brush mat, placed in front of the door and a dust mat of suffi cient length in the entrance hall. The brush mat absorbs most of the dirt and the doormat ensures that fi ne dirt and moisture are removed from shoes. The mats should be fi tted in such a way that anyone who enters the home is more or less forced to use them. Also remember that dark carpets show dirt and stains less than light carpets. B. First aid for stains a. Water Wipe the stain with a clean white cloth or kitchen roll. Then treat the stain with a damp cloth and rub until no more dirt shows on the cloth or kitchen roll. b. Lye (1 tablespoon of soap powder in 25 cl water) Wipe off the stain with a clean cloth or kitchen roll. Treat the stain with the cloth soaked in soapy water and rub until no more dirt shows on the cloth or kitchen roll. Important: Rinse the spot again with clear water and remove the soapy residue with a cloth or kitchen roll. c. Diluent Wipe off the stain with a cloth soaked in diluent until all dirt is removed from the carpet. Important: Never poor a cleaning agent directly on the stain! d. Stain remover Wipe off the stain with a cloth soaked in benzine until all dirt is removed from the carpet. Important: Never poor a cleaning agent directly on the stain! e. Acetone Wipe off the stain with a cloth soaked in acetone until all dirt is removed from the carpet. Important: Never poor a cleaning agent directly on the stain! CARE INSTRUCTIONS 2. Regular care Vacuuming: Preferably use a vacuum cleaner with rotating brushes. They are more expensive, but are more effi cient at removing dust and dirt. The frequency depends on the use and the degree of dirt in the carpet. Rooms or places with higher usage should be vacuumed more frequently. Stain removal: Please read the instructions carefully and always remove the stains as quickly as possible. A. Act quickly Stains should always be removed immediately. Remove the solid particles with a spoon. Then wipe off the stain with a dry absorbing cloth. Defi ne the type of stain to choose the appropriate product in the table. Apply the right amount of product, not too much, not too little. Make sure to rinse the carpet to remove the cleaner and the dirt. Wait until the spot is completely dry before walking over it again. ® As SISAL WEAVE is made from solution dyed Stainsafe yarns. Intensive cleaning Powder cleaning: To preserve the quality and performance of your carpet, we recommend they are cleaned professionally on a regular basis. We recommend three possible cleaning methods: spraying extraction, powder cleaning and shampooing. This method uses dried powder soaked in cleaner. It is sprinkled on the carpet and worked into the carpet. The surface dirt is absorbed by the cleaner. After evaporation, the powder saturated with dirt is vacuumed. The advantage of this method is that there is no need for drying time. In principle, it is possible to walk on the carpet during cleaning. Extraction cleaning: Extraction cleaning is the best way to clean textile fl oor coverings. You can do this yourself by hiring a specialised extraction cleaning machine, however it is preferable to leave it to a professional who will be familiar with the treatment requested for your type of carpet. Extraction cleaning uses pure water with added cleaning agents. Dirt is removed as the water is vacuumed out of the carpet. We recommend it be rinsed after to ensure removal of any remaining cleaning agents. Shampooing: This method achieves an effective but careful shampooing through the combination of a special shampoo with soft brushing mechanism and the added air oxygen in the cleaning agent. This creates a relatively dry micro-crystal foam which penetrates deep into the dirt and gives excellent cleaning results. The shampoo cleans deeply without water, dries to a fi ne powder with the dissolved dirt which is simply vacuumed after drying without sticky residues.
