SliceScope SliceScope
The SliceScope defines a new bench mark in imaging and electrophysiology research. Developed in collaboration with world leading researchers, the SliceScope provides an ultra stable, compact platform with outstanding optics. The SliceScope’s smart design is ready to accept a wide range of accessories and light sources to best suit your application.
Based around the industry standard Olympus BX51/61-WI optics, the SliceScope has been designed to suit many applications. Techniques include: Patch Clamping, Sharp Electrode Recording, Microinjection, Stretch Testing and other procedures requiring delicate control and outstanding image clarity.
Inspired design together with high quality components guarantee super smooth motion, long term stability and intuitive control. For your demanding applications, the SliceScope offers the most cost effective choice for both now and in the future.

Features Features
Price - motor control at near manual prices Motorised focus - gives remote fingertip focus control Motorised condenser - for optimal Koehler illumination Narrow, Ultra stable profile - extra room for equipment around your experiment Low noise electronics - suitable for demanding single channel recordings Choice of contrast - Oblique, IR DIC and Dodt Contrast In vivo & in vitro - can be configured and converted between the two Easy pipette exchange - increased productivity and reproducible positioning Modular design - easily configured into a user built 2P or confocal design Unique “follow software” - keep your pipettes within field of view as you move around your sample.
Stable Stability
Because long term experiments or those involving small cells require absolute stability, the SliceScope’s careful mechanical design, the use of high quality crossed-roller bearings, stable electronics and a high performance drive system ensures patch clamp operations are smoother and more efficient than ever.
With motorized focus and condenser control, the ultra stable thin profile gives you more space around the sample for your additional manipulators and devices.
The incorporation of advanced Olympus optics ensures the highest optical performance for imaging and electrophysiology research. Noise and vibration
With most electrophysiological recordings it is essential to have minimal electrical noise. The linear drive electronics we use means that the noise level is exceptionally low. Careful mechanical design and innovative optical modules ensures minimal vibration allowing long term recording.
Control Control Options
As all experiments and microscope systems are different, we offer unique and intelligent options for controlling the SliceScope.
Control Cube
This is the most popular of the control options. The weighted wheels connect to rotary optical encoders ensuring excellent ‘hand-eye’ motion control. The wheel tensions can even be altered to suit your preferred feel. The Control Cube provides many functions at your fingertips providing useful and powerful motion control.
Speed setting: This function allows you to select at which speed the focus or the condenser can move. You have an almost infinite choice of speeds available in the free “Follow” software, that works together with Scientifica motorised manipulators and platforms.
Home In/Home out: These functions allow you to confidently store memory positions for future use. Normally used with our micromanipulators for easy pipette exchange, this feature still very useful with the SliceScope. Memory positions: Allows you to set and recall up to 50 preset positions. Moreover, you can set the position of your objective’s & condenser’s focus and save it for future use.
Software Control
Every SliceScope can be used in conjunction with our micromanipulators and motorised stages to form a SliceScope Pro system. In this configuration our unique “Follow” module within LinLab software provides intelligent hands free control.
“Follow” is a Windows™ based program which gives powerful and ultimate control over the SliceScope. A common problem when working with slices is searching for the cells you wish to stimulate or record from and bringing your pipettes into the field of view. Normally you would have to find your pipettes again once the area of interest has been found. “Follow” software allows the manipulators to move at the same time as the microscope stage or platform so that the pipettes are Main software control interface always in the field of view. Once you have found a cell of interest you simply “release” the pipette from follow control and approach the cell as normally. This can be carried out for up to 12 individual pipettes.
SliceScope SliceScope
With “Follow” you are able to view XYZ positions, control triggered step sizes, customise the speed settings, set home features and offsets and many more. The virtual joystick and preset step motions allow for even further options. If you have a more unusual application where you would require full remote program control over your microscope, then the "open" format provides easy access to integrate the SliceScope with your own software.
Dual Configuration In vivo & In vitro
Virtual step control
Having listened carefully to our customers we have now designed the SliceScope to be interchangeable between in vivo and in vitro experiments. This allows you to have a single setup to carry out both techniques saving space and money.
The in vitro configuration the SliceScope includes the nose piece arm, condenser and substage optics. However, for in vivo applications, the condenser and substage optics are not required and therefore can be simply removed by the user. This then provides plenty of space to position your specimen around the SliceScope body.

Accessories Accessories & Options
The SliceScope’s modular design allows you to configure your microscope exactly to suit your research. Optical performance would therefore be identical to the widely used BX51 or 61-WI upright microscopes. Choose from a comprehensive range of Olympus objectives, condensers, eye pieces and light sources. The SliceScope can also accept fluorescence modules and optics together with a wide range of contrast techniques such as oblique, IR DIC and Dodt. Additionally, you can use your own confocal and multi photon imaging systems, and uncaging methods.
