WABCO ~ SERVICE MANUAL 5909 GATE ARM ADAPTOR ASSEMBLY FOR MODEL "GS" CROSSING GATE MECHANISM ''" ( N451071-6001) ********~ INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE I. GENERAL DESCRIPTION The WABCO Gate Arm Adaptor Assembly ( N451071-6001) is designed to provide a means for applying the WABCO Light Weight Aluminum Gate Arm to the Model "GS" Crossing Gate Mechanism. This adaptor assembly can be applied to the existing Model ''GS" gate arm bracket with four bolts. A bolt shearing feature is p:rovided on the adaptor channel which is designed to release the arm from the channel if the gate arm is hit with sufficient force by a motor vehicle. The channel section of the gate arm adaptor includes: six channel bolts, one shear bolt, and a three pin connector attached to a three conductor cable. See Figure 1. The six channel bolts are used to adjust and hold the gate arm firmly in position inside the channel. Only one shear bolt is required which is inserted through both the channel and the gate arm. A three pin connector and cable is provided for the light circuit leading to the gate arm. · Four bolt holes, near the mechanism end of the adaptor, are provided for application to the Model "GS" gate arm bracket. INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE (Refer to Figure 1) !.-. The following installation procedure is recommended for mounting the WABCO Gate Arm Adaptor, with the Light Weight Aluminum Gate Arm, to the Model "GS" Gate Mechanism in accordance with approved application plans. · · Some means must be provided to hold the gate mechanism in the horizontal position during installation. 1. Place the gate arm adaptor in position ( without the gate arm) with the existing gat~ arm bracket and secure firnily with four bolts .. · 2. ~ . ·; .... . Refer to Table 1 for proper telescoping of. the arm for desired length. After the desired length of the arm has been determined, lay the three aluminum arm sections on a flat surface and assemble per View 'D'. Insert proper bolts in 1st and 2nd sections (per section "X-X" and "Y-Y") as indicated and tighten securely. .., 3. Place the assembled arm in the channel section of the gate arm channel. Secure the arm with the shear pin ( 3) per section "W-W". NOTE Tighten nut ( 7 ) on shear pin by hand to prevent damage to the pin and insert cotter key ( 8 ). Adjust support plate (2) (View 'D') so that it bears against the end of tlie.arrn~ then tighten support plate bolts. Adjust two bolts on back side of the channel by hand to take up side.play and align arm properly inside the channel. Hand tighten the remaining four channel bolts, to take up slack between the arm and channel, and then secure all six bolts by tightening lock nuts. CAUTION Excessive tightening of channel bolts may damage or distort the arm support and change the shearing characteristics . . 4. . The lens for each gate arm Hght must be removed to insert bulbs, whi~h are packed separately for shipment to prevent breakage. This can be accom-. plished by removing three screws from either side of the lamp assembly. See illustration in View 'C '. 5. Insert the plug on the end of the arm wiring harness into the receI?tacle attached to the support plate as shown in View 'D '. 6. Connect the three conductor cable (wires IA, 2A, and 3A)to the proper terminals inside the gate mechanism housing in accordance with approved application plans. · 5909, p. 2 . '-:.;. -~ ··: WABCO ~ 7. When the gate mechanism is in operation,· check to see that ·the flashing light units on the mast and gate arm are all flashing properly. If any of the gate arm lights are not functioning, check the plug connector located inside the gate arm by removing the respective access plate below the light. See View 'C'. III.
