SM 6495A 08/97 1-1 SECTION I INTRODUCTION SM 6495A 08/97 1-2 SECTION II INSTALLATION 2.1 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPGRADING MECHANISM INSTALLED ON MAST To upgrade a gate mechanism installed on a mast, follow the procedures outlined below: 1. With gate arm in the down position, install hold down pin M46706901, provided with the Model 95 Gate Mechanism tool kit, through one of the holes in the large idler gear into the hole in the housing and loosen the gold nut on terminal 5B. See figure 2-1. ! WARNING REMOVE POWER FROM THE GATE MECHANISM BEFORE CONTINUING. OTHERWISE, BODILY INJURY COULD RESULT. FOLLOW APPLICABLE LOCKOUT PROCEDURES. 2. Remove and discard the bearing hole seal and retainer on the bearing located on the left side wall of the housing. See figure 2-2. 3. For mechanism N46780403 (with vital relay), remove relay and relay base mounting screws. For mechanism N46780304 (non-vital with gate arm resistors), remove resister mounting brackets. 4. Install the clamp type gears onto the existing shaft in the mechanism and the pedestrian shaft M46705901 using threadlocking compound J041245 on the clamping bolts J0504980007 and set screw J050657. Insert the keyed end of the pedestrian shaft through the housing bearing from the inside. The gears must align per Figure 2-3 to provide proper pedestrian/highway gate arm orientation. 5. Slide bearing support assembly N46706004 onto the shaft (the side of the bearing without the retaining ring must be inserted on the shaft first). Secure bearing support with socket cap screws J5001240096, lock washers J4751210115, and threadlocking compound J041245. 6. Apply a light coating of grease onto the pedestrian shaft where the adapter arm will be positioned. Install the pedestrian adapter arm M46705801 with key M46700808 and set screw J050657. See figure 2-5. 7. For vital relay gate mechanism, re-install base mounting screws and relay. For mechanism N46780304 (non-vital with gate arm resistors), reinstall resistor mounting brackets. 8. Install pedestrian arm (not supplied with upgarde kit) on to adapter arm. 9. Place mechanism in service (see Service Manual 6495 for required procedures). Remove locking pin from large idler gear and tighten gold nut on terminal 5B. SM 6495A 08/97 2-1 SECTION II INSTALLATION 2.2 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR UPGRADING MECHANISM IN SERVICE SHOP: To upgrade a gate mechanism in a service shop, follow the procedures outlined below: 1. Position mechanism on a stable work surface with the back normally against the mast laying horizontal or install on mast fixture similar to actual installation. 2. Remove and discard the bearing hole seal and retainer on the bearing located on the left side wall of the housing. See figure 2-1. 3. For mechanism N46780403 (with vital relay), remove relay and relay base mounting screws. For mechanism N46780304 (nonvital with gate arm resistors), remove resister mounting brackets. 4. Install the clamp type gears onto the existing shaft in the gate mechanism and the pedestrian shaft M46705901 using threadlocking compound J041245 on the clamping bolts J0504980007 and set screw J050657. Insert the keyed end of the pedestrian shaft through the housing bearing from the inside. The gears must align per Figure 2-2 to provide proper pedestrian/highway gate arm orientation. 5. Slide the bearing support assembly N46706004 onto the shaft (the side of the bearing without the retaining ring must be inserted on the shaft first). Secure bearing support with socket cap screws J5001240096, lock washers J4751210115 and threadlocking compound J041245. 6. The pedestrian adapter arm M46705801 may be installed at this time, however storage and handling will be more difficult. If the adapter arm is to be installed, apply a light coating of grease onto the pedestrian shaft where the adapter arm will be positioned. Install the pedestrian adapter arm M46705801 with key M46700808 and set screw J050657. See figure 2-5. If the adapter arm is not to be installed at this time, store the adapter arm, key, and set screw for latter use. 7. For vital relay mechanism, re-install relay base mounting screws and relay. For mechanism N46780304 (non-vital with gate arm resistors), reinstall resistor mounting brackets. SM 6495A 08/97 2-2 SECTION II INSTALLATION Figure 2-1.
