SCOPE This Installation Guide provides the information necessary to install the Digitair Model 6673 Receiver/Display Unit (RDU). The guide assumes that, prior to installation, the locomotive· has been equipped with the appropriate Power and Odometer Cables, Antenna cable, and Mounting Base and is therefore ready to accept the RDU configuration ordered. 2. ACCEPl'ANCE AND INITIAL INSPECTION 1) On receipt of the units, visually check for shipping damage. If any damage is apparent, notify DSL and the Shipping Carrier immediately. DO NOT SIGN SHIPPING DOCUMENTS, ACCEPTING SHIPMENT, WITHOUT FIRST NOTING ON THE DOCUMENT THAT THE GOODS WERE RECEIVED IN A DAMAGED CONDITION. NOTE: 2) Check that the units are of the quantity ordered, by comparing ordering information against packing slips. Note the serial numbers of all units received. The serial number is permanently marked on each unit. 3) As a general rule, the units are shipped with the correct strapping for various feature options. An exception to this rule may occur when a small quantity is ordered for evaluation purposes. Contact the customer Service Representative if any questions arise. 4) 3. Save some packing materials. This material is invaluable for returning damaged or unserviceable equipment. RDU CONFIGURATIONS The RDU ations: is available in the following popular configur- ''Digitair'' or ''Pulse'' style mounting base. Three connector arrangements as follows: Single connector, 10 pin MS threaded type. Dual connectors, 4 pin and 6 pin MS threaded type. Dual connectors, 5 pin and 6 pin bayonet type. INSTAJ,J.ATION 4.1 Installing the RDU in its Mounting Base The RDU is factory equipped to be installed in "Digitair'' or "Pulse" style mounting base. The base is usually located on the control stand and the RDU with a mechanical quick-disconnect base application and removal. 4.1.1 either a mounting provides for easy Digitair Style Mounting Base Slide the RDU into the keyhole slots in the mounting tray. Engage the locking latch and padlock the unit, if desired. 4.1.2 Pulse Style Mounting Base Set the RDU on top of the mounting base and slide the 4 snap locks into place (note: this style cannot be locked to the base). 4.2 Cables Connection Instructions for connecting the Power, Odometer, and Antenna cables for each of the three RDU connector arrangements, follow: NOTE: IT IS PREFERABLE TO CONNECT LOCOMOTIVE POWER IS OFF. 4.2.1 Connecting the Antenna THE CABLES WHILE THE Connection of the antenna cable is common for all RDU types regardless of connector arrangement. Simply screw the mating antenna connector to the connector mounted at the rear of the RDU. 4.2.2 10 Pin MS Threaded Type connector For units equipped with this type of connector, both the power and the odometer signals enter the RDU through this single connector. To connect, simply screw on the mating connector. 4.2.3 4 Pin and 6 Pin MS Threaded Type Connectors Screw the Power Cable connector to the 4 pin mating connector at the rear of the RDU. Screw the Odometer Cable connector to the 6 pin mating connector at the right side of the RDU. Copyright OSL Dynamic Sciences Limited 1990 Confidential Proprietary Information 176-5051-71 5 of 6 12 June 1990 4.2.4 5 Pin and 6 Pin Bayonet Type connectors Twist the Power Cable connector to the 5 pin mating connector at the rear of the RDU. Twist the Odometer Cable connector to the 6 pin mating connector at the right side of the RDU. 5. BRIEF FUNCTIONAL TEST With the RDU connected it should now be fully functional. When power is applied, verify that the unit operates as described in Section 3 of the Operator Guide (Document #176-5003-71).
