These voltages can cause serious injury to personnel if they are not careful. When working with the Power Pack, all railroad safety requirements must be observed. This manual covers the Model HX-1 (Part Number 98605009) and Model HX-1A (Part Number N46720001) Highway Crossing Power Pack. The power packs have four secondaries each having an output of 6.3 VAC, 3.5 amps at 60 Hz with a total power rating of 100 VA. The power pack includes a power transfer relay and a solid state inverter. The components are supplied in a single package with AAR terminals for output connections for up to four AC track feeds and inputs for 110 VAC and 12 VDC power supply for the Model HX-1 and 240 VAC and 24 VDC for the Model HX-1A. 1.1 1.1.1 Description General The HX-1 or HX-1A power pack provides power for up to four AC-DC (Style “C”) track circuits, which are typically used in non-signaled and industrial railroads. The unit is particularly useful at installations with poor rail shunting. As shown in Figure 1–1, the HX-1 package consists of a solid state DC to AC inverter, an output transformer with four secondaries (T1 – T4), and a power transfer relay. Under normal conditions, the unit is fed by 110VAC, 50/60Hz (HX-1) or 240VAC, 50/60Hz (HX-1A) power. The voltage is stepped down by the output transformer to 6.3 VAC, 60 Hz at each of its four secondaries. If AC power fails, the incorporated solid state inverter is activated via a back contact of the power transfer relay, and converts the DC input energy to AC, which operates the power pack. No adjustments are necessary. Components of the HX-1 or HX-1A are contained and connected in a single unit. AAR terminals are provided for all external connections. A typical circuit application is presented in Figure 1–2. The fronts of the power packs are shown in Figure 1–3.
