Small Group Tracks exams Exam room and equipment requirements Exam room The room must have sufficient space for a group of up to four candidates to be able to perform effectively and accommodate the instruments/equipment included in the centre’s timetable. This must also include space for a large table and chair for the examiner which the centre must also provide. Four music stands and four chairs for the candidates should be provided. Mains power supply is needed, and extension leads may be required depending on the position of equipment related to the power supply. The centre must provide each group of candidates with a sticker to wear which denotes them as A, B, C or D (according to the number of candidates in the group). This must be arranged by the centre before candidates enter the exam room. There should be a waiting area for candidates and accompanying teachers/adults and preferably a separate warm-up area which can accommodate a group of four. If the exam room is not sound proof it should be a good distance from the waiting/warm-up area so that sound does not carry. Centres must meet Health and Safety requirements as set out in national legislation. Facilities at the centre should comply with the Disability Discrimination Act. Equipment The following must be provided by the venue: CD player, speakers/sound system for backing tracks, see below Chairs and music stands for each candidate Large table and chair for the examiner. CD player/sound system The examiner will bring CDs containing the backing tracks for the exams, and all pieces in the Small Group Tracks exams are played to a backing track. The equipment provided by the centre must be able to play the CD tracks at a volume which is suitable for a group of up to four loud instruments (e.g. four trumpet players). This is likely to require either external speakers or a powerful CD unit to ensure that the audio tracks can be played loudly enough. Centres should ensure their equipment is adequate through a sound check before the first Music Tracks exam day.
