smartBridges introduces PoE Outdoor™, a unique concept of dynamic Power over Ethernet, which combines advanced protective and diagnostic features to bring unmatched convenience in wireless network deployment. With ethernet port protection and NEC compliant surge protection, further enhanced by its weatherproof, rugged durability, the PoE Outdoor™ is a class apart from other available PoE products. The PoE Outdoor™ delivers required operating power and transmits data via the standard Category 5 Ethernet cable thereby eliminating the need for a separate 110/220 volt AC cable to the radio. PoE Outdoor™ significantly reduces cabling and outlet requirements. This makes it an invaluable device in difficult deployments requiring long cable lengths, for example, a transmitting tower.
Protection PoE Outdoor™ provides electrostatic discharge protection for the connected radios. The advanced surge supression feature provides a two-layered protection for data and power input/output. As an added measure, it also provides a special grounding lug. It complies with NEC 810-20 and NEC 810-21 codes for surge and grounding protection. The ethernet port protection further ensures the stability of the radio against any discharges on the input Ethernet cable.
Advanced Diagnostics Unlike most other PoE devices, PoE Outdoor™ features critical diagnostic capabilities that make it a must for Wireless ISPs (WISPs). It automatically senses the cable length and adjusts the output voltage to drive the equipment at the end of the cable effectively. PoE Outdoor™ can detect presence of moisture in the cable, low supply voltage and short circuits which gives the WISP a convenient tool for maintenance and troubleshooting.
Weatherproof Ruggedness The PoE Outdoor™ uses weatherproof enclosure and connectors and is designed to work reliably in harsh environments. It can withstand temperatures from -40 Deg C to 60 Deg C (-40 F to 140 F). The PoE Outdoor™ is compatible with all IEEE 802.3af compliant equipment. In addition, it is designed to work with all existing smartBridges PoE enabled products. Powered by an industry standard 48V DC adaptor, the PoE Outdoor™ provides sufficient power for devices connected up to 100m (328 feet).

Installation
RJ45 to PC/Hub
The PoE Outdoor can be mounted on a wall/pole. Inside the premises, the CAT5 cable can be connected to the PC/Hub and the RJ11 to a power source through the 48V adaptor. The CAT5 and the RJ11 cables can then be plugged onto the wall plate on the inside wall. The wall plate puts power on to the CAT5 cable - the RJ45 cable runs to the PoE Outdoor unit on the outside wall (only one wire). From the outdoor radio to the PoE Outdoor and from the PoE Outdoor to the Hub/PC or the wall power source, the total cable length can go up to 100m without compromising power supply or signal quality.
