After that you may use the Smartvue Setup Assistant CD-ROM to assist you in the system setup. Insert the Smartvue Setup Assistant CD-ROM into the CD-ROM player on your PC, the application will automatically start. Click on the Run the Setup Assistant option to walk through installation step by step. 17 18 Chapter 5 Wireless Camera Setup 5.1 Camera Placement Before placing camera(s) in their desired locations, place them in the same room as the DVM for initial setup. Smartvue S4 cameras can be placed extended distances away from the DVM, depending on the environment and number of cameras used. Metal reinforced walls and floors will significantly impact camera distance. If the distance is too far for the camera to reach the DVM, Smartvue S4 cameras can be plugged directly into a network. Please see the next chapter for more information. To place the camera on a shelf or flat surface, slide the camera into its shelf stand then place the camera on any bookshelf or flat surface and adjust the tilt (up and down direction) of the stand as needed by adjusting the screw on the bottom of the stand. To wall mount the camera, attach the wall mount to a wall with the included screws then attach the camera. To mount the camera to a drop ceiling, use the drop ceiling mount then attach the camera to the mount. Be careful to attach the mount to the wall or ceiling securely so the mount will not dislodge and cause damage to the camera. 5.2 Camera Setup Plug the camera power cable into an outlet then plug the connecter into the back of the camera at its Power Input. The power indicator light will illuminate green on the front of the camera, then the light will turn red until it establishes a connection to the DVM. The indicator light on the front of the cameras indicates the camera’s status. Red means the camera is not connected to a DVM. Yellow means it is in the connection or upgrade process and green means it is connected and communicating with a DVM. On the back of the camera the Mounting Adapter allows you to mount the camera to a wall or ceiling using any standard mounting hardware or the included hardware. The Composite Video 19 Out is analog video and uses an RCA jack to connect to a monitor to give you a live view from the camera directly. The Power Input is where the power adaptor is connected to the camera. The Network Port is used to connect the camera to a network where the integrated wireless networking may not be required. To find out how to use the Smartvue S4 camera in wired mode, please see the section Wired Camera Setup. 5.3 Camera Reset In the case where a camera reset is required, use the Reset function to return the camera to its original factory configuration. While the camera is powered on, slide a paper clip into the small hole at the bottom of the camera where the reset button is located and press it three (3) times. Resetting the camera will erase all settings from the camera and the camera will need to be reconnected to the DVM. A reset is required to re-associate a camera with a DVM. 20 Chapter 6 Wired Camera Setup 6.1 Camera Placement Smartvue cameras can be used both in wireless and wired (connected through a network) modes. For longer distances between floors of a building or where the wireless may not reach, you can plug a Smartvue S4 camera directly into a network. 6.2 Camera Setup Plug a network cable into the Network Port on the back of the Smartvue camera and the other end into your network. Plug the camera power into an outlet then plug the power connecter into the camera’s Power Input. You must connect the camera to the network before connecting it to the power. The power indicator light on the camera will illuminate. For Smartvue S4 cameras to work properly when wired, they must be connected to the same network as the DVM. The indicator light on the front of the cameras indicates the camera’s status. Red means the camera is not connected to a DVM. Yellow means it is in the connection or upgrade process and green means it is connected and communicating with a DVM. Smartvue S4 cameras can be used with external Power Over Internet (PoE) power supplies. Please contact your Smartvue sales representative for more details. On the back of the camera the Mounting Adapter allows you to mount the camera to a wall or ceiling using any standard mounting hardware or the included hardware. The Composite Video 21 Out is analog video and uses an RCA jack to connect to a monitor to give you a live view from the camera directly. The Power Input is where the power adaptor is connected to the camera. The Network Port is used to connect the camera to a network where the integrated wireless networking may not be required. 6.3 Camera Reset In the case where a camera reset is required, use the Reset function to return the camera to its original factory configuration. While the camera is powered on, slide a paper clip into the small hole at the bottom of the camera where the reset button is located and press it three (3) times. Resetting the camera will erase all settings from the camera and the camera will need to be reconnected to the DVM. The selected camera view will be displayed. To refresh the image, click on the Refresh button. To go back and view another camera, click on the Back hypertext and to log out of the system, click on the Logout hypertext. 57 58 Chapter 12 12.1 Direct Remote Internet Access Setting Up a Direct Connection To directly access your Smartvue DVM remotely from the Internet you must configure your broadband router for a public IP address and to allow incoming data traffic. For security reasons this is usually done on a specific port. This procedure requires advanced networking expertise. 1. Assign a static (fixed) IP on your DVM to prevent the IP address from changing. This is your LAN IP address. You may consider DNS forwarding as an option with DHCP. 2. Find out what your public IP address is. A public IP address is an IP addresses that is visible to the public. This IP address might change from time to time because most ISP’s use DHCP to assign IP addresses to their customers. 3. Configure your router so that the public IP is directed to your fixed IP (DVM address) on your network. This process is called port forwarding. When you or someone else enters your public IP address to the web browser, the request will be forward to your static (fixed) IP of your DVM inside you network. 4. The public IP address will now connect directly to your DVM. Please refer to the documentation for your broadband router and contact your ISP for further instructions and assistance. 12.2 Direct Remote Internet Access from PC To access your DVM directly from the internet, enter the public IP address in the browser. This will display the standard DVM interface with the live video displayed in its native resolution and video will be displayed in the D1 720x480 resolution at the standard bitrate. For lower bandwidth direct access, see the following section Low Bandwidth Direct Access from PC 12.3 Low Bandwidth Direct Remote Internet Access from PC To access the Smartvue system using a lower bandwidth interface in which cameras can be displayed as still images or in video at the lower bandwidth 320x240 resolution, put “/remote” at the end of the public IP address, for example “192.168.1.100/remote.” This will enable you to view quality video from lower bandwidth connections. 12.4 Direct Remote Internet Access from a Cell Phone To access the cell phone interface, put “/wap” at the end of the public IP address, for example “192.168.1.100/wap.” This will open the cell phone enabled interface to your Smartvue system. 59 60 Chapter 13 Common Troubleshooting Issue: Color Wander Solution: The electric power frequency in any country is measured in the number of hertz (cycles per second). In countries which use 50hz, the cameras should be set to PAL and in 60hz countries the cameras should be set to NTSC. Use the Advanced Settings for each camera for this setting. With fluorescent lighting some form of color wander is common. Issue: Video Will Not Play (although Preview Images Appear) Solution: Insure ActiveX is enabled in your browser. ActiveX is required for decoding of the H.264 video stream and Java is required for decoding the MJPEG video stream. In Internet Explorer, under the tools menu option select internet options, then security, then customize and set to enable or prompt for all ActiveX options. To playback MJPEG video you must have the Java runtime installed (available on the CD in the startup). To playback H.264 recorded video your system requires a Windows XP or Windows 2000 based PC with a P4 or higher speed processor. Issue: Video Quality Seems Poor Solution: One solution may be to optimize how your computer displays graphics. From the Windows Display Settings set the screen resolution for 1024 x 768, set the color quality for Highest 32 Bit and then click Save. In addition, you can improve the computers graphic performance. From the Control Panel select System, then Advanced, then Performance, then enable Adjust for Best Performance the click OK. Issue: I Can’t Find the IP Address of the DVM Solution: Plug the DVM into a network which your PC is also connected to. Open the DVM Finder application by clicking on Start, Program Files, Smartvue, then DVM Finder. If you did not install the DVM Finder, install it from the attached CD-ROM or download it from the Smartvue website at www.smartvue.com. When the DVM Finder application starts, click on Find DVM. The DVM will be found on your network and an icon for the DVM will be placed on your desktop. If your IP address changes frequently, the IP address of the DVM may change as well, simply run the DVM Finder again. Optionally, if you un-plug all Ethernet cables from the DVM, turn it off, then turn it on again, the DVM will set itself to the IP address of 192.168.1.100. If you set your PC to match this domain (such as using the IP address 192.168.1.101) then connect the Ethernet crossover cable, you will be able to connect directly to the DVM by opening a browser and entering the domain 192.168.1.100. 61 62 Chapter 14 Customer Support Smartvue is committed to your success. If you have need for customer support, you can contact us in different ways. Please have your DVM Serial Number (located on a white sticker on the back of the DVM) available when you contact support.
