To all our members volunteers and listeners LET’S CELEBRATE 2016
The BIG ticket item for 2016 The City Park Radio translator service on 96.5 FM to better service the eastern suburbs of Launceston and the West Tamar. A lot of work is happening behind the scenes and sometimes patience needs to be a real virtue when dealing with agencies. In the past year we have negotiated access to land at Mowbray with the Launceston City Council, signed a lease, obtained a planning permit and now in the throes of submitting a building permit. City Park Radio has successfully applied for a Tasmanian Community Fund grant (second time around) for which we thank the many community leaders who supported the grant process and City Park Radio. We thank everyone who has donated to the Gift Fund for the project. Huge thanks to Dr Wayne Griffioen at Tasman Geotechnics for their pro bono services. Later this month, once we complete due diligence with quotes from a second lot of suppliers, equipment ordering will happen. After that the station will be looking for tradespeople to assist with the building and installation work. Do you know someone who can help or volunteer, please let the management committee know. 2016—the year of the translator Life membership At the annual Christmas BBQ—City Park Radio’s patron The Hon. Don Wing presented life membership certificates to Umi Quor, Rob Wells and John Doyer for 30 years of continuous program presenting. More photos online

JANUARY Program Highlights
DAN FOGELBERG – Souvenirs
From January 2 Saturday Afternoon Mix returns to 2-5pm
Released in 1974, 2 years after his debut album Home Free, Souvenirs was a significant advance in Dan Fogelberg’s career. While Home Free was characterised by pastoral, romantic ballads, Souvenirs was a much more varied and complex album. The songs are more elaborately textured, highlighted by instrumental and vocal overdubs, with Fogelberg sometimes singing in four or five parts. Produced by Joe Walsh, as well as containing its fair share of ballads like Song From Half Mountain and the title track, Fogelberg also displays his rock side with As the Raven Flies and Morning Sky. The album also showed a big advance in lyrical sophistication with many songs displaying depth and feeling. Like this from Part of the Plan: “Your conscience awakes and you see your mistakes … and you wish someone would buy your confessions”. Souvenirs is strengthened by an army of West Coast musicians, including Graham Nash, Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Gerry Beckley, Russ Kunkel, and Joe Walsh himself. As an example of superb vocal harmonies, fluent musicianship, and carefully crafted songs with strong melodies and hooks, Dan Fogelberg’s Souvenirs ranks as one of rock’s best.
