Getting Started The SocialMediaBox is a web-accessible client/server application for previewing, selecting, editing, and extracting feeds from different social media for the purposes of displaying them on TV. It is a customizable web interface allowing the user to fol low comments from various web pages on a single screen. This is extremely useful for TV shows, which have fan pages on different web sites. Comments from those fan pages can be viewed on a single screen, easily selected, edited and placed in a customized list, which can be displayed on TV. This can be done in real time and is very suitable for live shows, where speed is essential. The SocialMediaBox supports multi-user access, as well as multiple outputs. With one application you have many user accounts, from which multiple customized lists can be created. The access to each list can also be configured. Lists can be private, accessible by selected users or accessible by all users. Thus, a single instance of the SocialMediaBox can be used for several TV shows or even several channels. QUICK START AND SETUP When you first start using the SocialMediaBox, you need to integrate your social media accounts with the system and select the posts that you would like to follow. To do this, you need to go to Settings>Manage System>TV Channels>Edit TV Channels and enter your accounts. Then go to the home page, select a TV channel, create a Tab and select feeds from your accounts you would like to view in the SocialMediaBox. Note that each social media has its specific configurations. Currently, Twitter, Facebook and RSS feeds are supported. User Interface The SocialMediaBox user interface is very easy to use. It consists of two main modes - a Home page displaying feeds of all social media that are integrated, as well as a setting menu. To switch between the two modes use the Menu button placed at the top right corner of the application. You can view the two modes displayed in the screenshots below. HOME VIEW SETTINGS User Settings - Here you can view and edit your personal details and view the system's login history. Help - Here you can access the system help. This command is under development and it is not implemented for now. About – Here you can view product information – like name and product version, as well as license type. Also, you can follow external links to our official website and support portal. Logout - Use this option to log out of the system. Manage System - Here you can view and edit the available user accounts and integrate social media accounts and TitleBox configurations with SocialMediaBox. Let us look at this menu command more closely. Manage System To access the Manage System setting, click the Menu button at the top right corner of the screen to switch to the Settings menu mode. The Manage System is the last menu item (Settings>Manage System). A submenu is invoked: NOTE: Only Super Admins have the exclusive rights to view and customize all available Manage System settings The submenu consists of the following items: System Settings – this feature is under development and currently is not implemented; System Notifications – Here you can view the system updates and user login fails history; TV Channels – Here you can create TV channels and edit all available TV channels configurations; TitleBox Management - Here you can create TitleBox configurations and edit the existing ones; User Accounts – Here you can create user accounts and edit the available user accounts. User Login Fails To access User Login Fails: On the Settings Menu, click Manage System>System Notifications>User Login Fails Using this feature Super Admins can monitor the successful and failed login attempts for the system in order to detect unauthorized ones. The User Exists column displays whether a particular username exists (indicated by a green tick sign) or not (indicated by a Red Cross sign). NOTE: A username could be considered as a not existing due to a typing mistake while logging in the application. However, if you notice a number of incorrect user names having the same IP address, this might mean that someone is trying randomly to guess the username in order to log in without authorization. The Date column provides you with the information about when the user has either logged in or has attempted to log in. The Username column is self-explanatory, while the Remote IP column consists of the IP addresses of the machines that the users use to access SocialMediaBox. By using the Show More Info about users’ login activity. button, located in the first More Info column, you can get more detailed information Create TV Channel To go to Create TV Channel: On the Settings Menu, click Manage System>TV Channels>Create TV Channel The following form is available for you to create a TV channel by entering the corresponding name in the field below. Description and Additional Info fields are optional. However, you are given the ability to choose how much writing space you need. Point your mouse at the resize icon in the fields’ bottom right corners. Pull up to shrink the field and down to enlarge it. The Logo(s) field is under development and it is not implemented for now. Edit TV Channels To configure Edit TV Channels: On the Settings Menu, click Manage System>TV Channels>Edit TV Channels In this page you are able to manage already existing TV channels. Click the corresponding User Account icon users listed below, use the bottom scroll of the screen: to view all available users in the system. To see the hidden Super Admin column displays the users who have Super Admin rights in the system as a whole. This column’s funtion is only informative and it doesn’t refer to a concrete TV channel. Assign User feature consists of the Assign /Unassign button. Click this button in order to switch between the two commands for the currently chosen TV channel. User Role column allows you to define a role for the assigned users giving them different rights to operate within a channel. From the drop-down list you can choose between User and Admin roles. IMPORTANT: SocialMediaBox has three pre-defined roles: Super Admin, Admin for a single channel and User for a single channel. Each role defines a set of actions (capabilities) a user assigned a role is allowed to perform, described below as follows:  Super Admin – somebody with access to all available administration features and all other features in SocialMediaBox. There might be more than one Super Admin in the system, as long as the owner is willing to create them in System Manage>User Accounts>Create User Account. The following capabilities are available to Super Admins: - have a full access to all available menu settings (including the Manage System feature); - are able to operate within all TV channels in the system, i.e. to create Thematic Tabs, to feed them with content, to create Lists and to output feeds on the Home page.  Admin – somebody who has access to all administration features within a single TV channel and is abl e to operate within a single channel. All administrators have the following capabilities: - Are able to configure some menu settings concerning their channel - Manage System>TV Channels>Edit TV channels setting and could assign new users to the channel; - are able to operate within the TV channel(s) they are assigned to, i.e. to create Thematic Tabs, to feed them with content, to create Lists and to output feeds on the Home page.  User - they have limited capabilities. They can only select feeds from the Tabs, create Lists and output social media content within their channel on the Home page. TitleBox Templates Click the corresponding TitleBox Template icon. Then click the following TitleBox Configuration button below: You will invoke the consequent window that contains two sections – TitleBox Configuration and Add New TitleBox Template Configurations: 1. These configurations are pre-defined in Create TitleBox Configuration. 2. Add New TitleBox Template Configurations - Here you can add already created TitleBox Template Folders which are set in Create TitleBox Configuration. Name the template configuration. To assign the template, click the Scan templates folder button in the Mapping section. A list of all available TitleBox templates, available in the TitleBox_Templates folder will be displayed below. Click a template to select it and start mapping news item elements to the objects in the template. A dialog will be appended with mapping objects, as shown in the screenshot below: Mapping object - SocialMediaBox Mapping objects - TitleBox Mapping is assigning elements (i.e. images of texts) from the news items in SocialMediaBox, to objects (rolls, crawls, pictures, etc.) contained in the TitleBox project. All available elements of a list item are listed to the left. A list of matching object types from the TitleBox template is displayed to the right of each element. Object names are extracted from the TitleBox project and each is preceded with the object type (i.e. image or text) in square brackets. You can map and display the following social media content: Social Media Name – the name of the source media (Facebook, Twitter, RSS feed); Social Media Img – the logo of the media source; Author Name – the name of the media story creator (i.e. Facebook page or Twitter profile); Author Avatar - the Facebook profile picture/ Twitter avatar of the media story creator (i.e. Facebook page or Twitter profile); Item Date Time – the date and time when the post was created; Item Subject – the caption of the item; Item Message – the full/body text of the item (as displayed); Item Photo – image, contained in the story. For each social media element, only appropriate TitleBox object types from the project will be listed, i.e. images for the avatars and text objects for names and messages. Simply click on object’s name to map it and it will be grayed out as selected. You can only map objects which will be displayed in the output. When you are ready with all mappings, click Create. The assigned template folder will occur below: Click the Edit button at the top right corner if you want to change the mapping settings. Then select the Status from the drop-down list. Choosing the Active status will allow displaying the current TitleBox template in a list of selectable items on the homepage when outputting feeds. If you choose the Archived status, you will not be able to select it for output. To discard a mapping, click Cancel. When you are done editing, click Save. Bad Words In this table you can add words to be replaced by the system in the feeds. This option is ava ilable for censorship purposes. To add a new word to be censored, enter the desired word in the Looking For field. A default replacement suggestion will automatically appear in the Replace With field. You can either use this suggestion, or enter your custom replacement. Once you are ready, click the Add button. The newly added word will automatically appear in a list below as shown.
