SONIC Sonic Drilling With High Frequency Vibration DESIGN FEATURES The Versa-Sonic is designed to compliment the unique characteristics of the sonic drilling system. What is the difference between our Versa-Sonic Drill and the conventional top drive rotary or auger drills? The Versa-Sonic Drill has a specially designed hydraulically powered drill head or oscillator which generates adjustable high frequency vibrational and rotational motion coupled with down pressure to advance the cutting edge of the sonic drill bit. A most significant advantage is gained with the Versa-Sonic Drill’s unique ability to obtain large diameter, relatively undisturbed core samples of almost any overburden formation without the use of air, fluid or additives. Other Versa-Sonic drilling advantages over conventional drilling methods include: - Superior drilling speed through tough materials. - Able to provide true continuous, large-diameter in-situ type samples of any overburden or bedrock formations. - Reduction of investigative derived waste by an average of 80% as compared to conventional drilling methods. - Controlled well installations and reduced development lime due to the ability to vibrate the outer casing in or out of borehole. - Reduction or elimination of sloughing or difficulties with heavy sand conditions. - Ability to drill through bedrock, cobbles or boulders, sand, hard till without compromising samples and without having to abandon the borehole. - Less manual labor, decreased trip times, rapid drill pipe connections, and safer working conditions. Unique Versa-Sonic design features Sonicor Model 50K sonic drill head combines rotation and vibration. Drill head will tilt/pivot 90° hydraulically to assist the driller with rapid and safe make-up of drill pipe connections. Fully automated, hydraulic rotating break out table assembly, makes for easy drill pipe connection breakout, and also can be retracted hydraulically, off hole. Also, an optional hydraulic rod spinner built into the table assembly is available. A specially designed long stroke, swing jib, for the main wench, aids driller in maneuvering tooling around drill head. Optional, auxiliary winch, mounted on the side of the swing jib is also available.
