Spirent Test Modules & Chassis Spirent N11U Chassis The Spirent N11U chassis is the next generation in chassis architecture, designed to handle complex multiprotocol scale and cloud virtualization testing needs. It simultaneously scales to the highest port counts and test traffic rates in the industry while incorporating innovative time-and moneysaving capabilities such as: built-in touchscreen administration, intelligent power and fan control, and fast booting and system firmware upgrades. With its efficient architecture, the SPT-N11U supports a variety of environments from multi-user functional testing all the way up to multi-chassis switch fabric and core-router stress testing. A single chassis can scale to nearly 15 terabits of data traffic - more than double that of the competition - supporting enough protocol scale to push any modern router architecture beyond its limits. It offers best-in-class timing precision and synchronization for largescale tests and site-to-site latency/jitter measurements, with the precision of synchronization being ten times better than the nearest competition.
Spirent N4U Chassis The Spirent N4U is the next-generation compact chassis, supporting a variety of environments where testing requires equipment to be relocated. It supports multi-user functional testing and chassis chaining where higher density is required but a mainframe N11U is not available. It is fully interoperable with the N11U and accepts the same test modules with no modifications. The Spirent SPT-N4U compact chassis is the smallest modular chassis form factor that supports Spirent’s latest 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE test modules. By optimizing the design with the latest hardware and software technology, the SPT-N4U lowers the cost of testing the devices and networks powering the always-on data network.

Advanced Fuzzing Applications and Security Test Solutions
Background Accidentally discovered in the 1980’s by Barton Miller, a Professor of Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, fuzzing has grown in popularity for a variety of reasons. For starters, it’s easier and often more effective in generating and running arbitrary inputs than it is to perform manual code audits, or using software for reverse engineering. With the ability to find most serious faults, fuzzing is most effective when used in conjunction with extensive black box testing, with no access to source code. It can be left up and running for days, to reveal bugs missed in manual audits, while providing an overview of the target software’s robustness.
Fuzz testing or fuzzing delivers invalid, unexpected, or random data to the inputs of a computer program, OS, or hardware system while monitoring for application or program crashes. Test with real-world network conditions in your lab Latency in networks really is a big deal. it dramatially reduces throughput and when it affects high speed links carrying applications such as real-time gaming and streaming video, consumers can get pretty disgruntled. Even the financial industry now demands ultra-low latency as algorithmic trading becomes more widespread. So when you are developing high precision network products, it’s critical that you validate their performance with real-world network conditions. And that means latency. It’s impractical and almost impossible to use large, unwieldy and expensive drums of fiber to test your design margins and tolerance to the effects of latency—a 200 km drum of fiber only provides 1 ms of delay, is not controllable and needs amplification due to signal loss. Not much help when you need to emulate a long-haul network. Alternatively, you could use the Spirent Attero-100 G. This high speed Ethernet impairment tester can be used to emulate propagation, routing, switching and buffering delays by up to 256 ms at 100 Gb/s and 640 ms at 40 Gb/s. That’s the equivalent of over 50,000 km of fiber at 100 Gb/s. Modularity Separate RF modules are optimized for unidirectional or bi-directional applications and support a variety of different frequency bands. This allows the Vertex Channel Emulator to be configured for specific test needs using minimal hardware. Field-replaceable RF and DSP modules facilitate upgrades and enhance serviceability.

Remote programming interface (RPI)
The Vertex Channel Emulator system supports up to 36 RF ports and 64 digital links in one rack height of 6U. It enables more efficient use of hardware for tests that require higher RF channel counts.
Remote programming is supported through TCP/IP. The RPI commands provide seamless backward compatibly to the Spirent VR5 HD channel emulator.

Ease of use
The built-in Vertex propagation library offers a vast selection of standard channel models, while making it easy to edit and save changes to both the standard as well as user-defined models. Classical and geometrical channel models are supported, and the independent channel modelling feature allows one Vertex Channel Emulator to support up to 8 nodes for a mesh network application test.
Complicated test setups are made easy with an easy-to-use Graphical User Interface (GUI). Intuitively-designed libraries of connection setups make it easy to navigate through complicated configurations by presenting information in a clear way. For debugging purposes, important Information is displayed in real time, including power level tracking of each RF port.

Key test applications MIMO OTA
MIMO OTA applications require high channel density, based on the number of probes used in the test setup. The Vertex Channel Emulator can be used in both anechoic and reverberation chamber test setups and can switch between chamber types in minimal time. For anechoic chambers, Vertex supports up to 32 RF probes and two carriers with 16 dual polarized probes or 8 dual polarized probes on one instrument. For reverberation chambers, up to four carriers can be aggregated on one instrument.

The ability to emulate a high number of cells in the lab, combined with Spirent’s Live2Lab® Virtual Drive Test - Conversion Tool (VDTCT) software makes the laborious process of drive testing easy and repeatable in the lab. Live2Lab VDT-CT can convert a large variety of log file types (QXDM, JDSU, Accuver, Transcom, Anite Nemo, etc.) into reproducible drive route simulations. Mesh network application
Mesh network applications require that each node independently communicate with each other. From a channel emulation perspective, this implies that each radio link needs to be emulated with a different fading profile simultaneously, placing heavy demand on the number of RF antenna ports required in addition to the processor load. Vertex supports up to 8x8 independent channel models on a single instrument, providing the capability to test up to an eight node mesh network.
Carrier aggregation
Supporting up to four - 2x2 bi-directional carriers on one instrument, Vertex can be used for carrier aggregation scenarios. Each radio link can be independently modelled, simulating channel conditions to represent multiple carriers on the same eNodesB or from different eNodeB’s. Spirent Vertex™ Channel Emulator Graphical User Interface For users familiar with Spirent’s VR5 HD Channel Emulator, the Vertex Channel Emulator presents a seamless transition, as it has been developed with the same GUI features. The Vertex GUI is very easy to use and presents clear and concise information even for the first-time user. The GUI can be accessed using a cable hooked up to the Vertex display port or through the controller laptop. Connection setup and RF parameters for channel modelling can be easily configured to run in realtime mode. A comprehensive set of ready-to-run standard models is provided, making it easy to select and play. Setup of most test cases is a matter of using a few mouse clicks and drop down menus.
The GUI provides an easy-to-read display for high-channel density features that can be complicated to setup. For example, the connection setup for an 8x8 MIMO application, or 64 radio links, can be easily viewed using the pre-loaded option from the Connection Setup library.
Configuring the MIMO correlation matrix is easy and convenient to do on the Vertex GUI. Complicated matrices such as a 2x8 configuration can be created using spreadsheet-type entries, rather than spending the time writing elaborate test scripts for creating the correlation matrices.

The cable connection diagram built-in to the Vertex GUI presents the actual cabling connections that need to be made. This feature makes it easy to cable complicated connection setups and minimizes cabling error. The image shown is the cabling setup for an 8x8 unidirectional configuration. Additionally, the temporal player feature built-in to the GUI facilitates real-time tracking of power levels at each port. This is especially useful for handover scenarios which are based on power levels between the serving cells.
