The codec uses H.264 high profile compression, which delivers superior image quality compared to the main and baseline profiles used in most other codecs. The DSx SD/HD codec encodes and streams either a single channel of high definition HD 1080p video or four NTSC/PAL video channels simultaneously at up to thirty frames per second each. The DSx SD/HD can be used as either an encoder or decoder. As a decoder, it can display one HD stream or up to four SD streams in a quad image. Video and graphics streams can also be decoded with commercial off-the-shelf PC software. The DSx SD/HD offers several video monitoring options: displaying a live image or a processed (encoded/decoded) image full screen or SD video in a quad mode. An on screen display (OSD) offers titling and time code. Operation is easy and intuitive using the embedded web based graphical user interface. The DSx codec offers a choice of external power or Power-over-Ethernet (PoE). A single/dual unit rackmount tray is also available.
