Product Description DeCrane Aerospace Audio International's SER-1001-10x-x is a stand-alone Serial Digital Serializer that accepts analog audio and analog video input signals from an external A/V device(s). This unit integrates analog-to-digital conversion and serializer circuitry intended to separately capture and serialize one (1) analog audio source into an AES3 serial digital format, and one (1) analog video source into a standard-definition (SD) serial digital interface (SDI). The SD-SDI video input is compliant to level C of SMPTE 259M standards requirements. Each set of serial digital signals is then routed to either compatible switching or de-serializing devices. The input accepts stereo analog audio along with Composite, Y/C (S-Video), or Y/Pr/Pb (component) video signals. Operation is independent of video standard, capable of operating on the common standards - NTSC, PAL, and SECAM. AES3 audio output is accomplished using 24-bit, 48kHz analog-to-digital conversion of the stereo analog audio. An audio input gain adjustment allows gain selections of 6dB, 0dB, and +10dB to compensate for varying levels of audio source devices. Depicted below, the gain adjustment is located on the side of the unit. The power-up video input standard switching order, i.e. Composite, S-video, Component, is selected via the configuration ID pins. A video select input allows the input standard to cycle in the event the serializer is used to connect to different video types. Only a single standard should be connected at one time, i.e. composite or S-video can be connected at the input, but not at the same time. Three (3) configuration ID pins are used to determine the power-up video standard that is being decoded and the order in which the standard will switch when the video select input becomes active. The “x” in “-10x” designates the varying dimensions of the products; “-102” and “-103”. The “-x” suffix designates the type of connector utilized in installation; “-1” = Positronic and “-2” = D-Subminiature. Features Unit accepts standard analog stereo audio Two (2) Simultaneous AES3 (AES/EBU) outputs Selectable Composite video, Y/C, or Y/Pr/Pb video inputs Two (2) Simultaneous SD-SDI video outputs Lightweight and sturdy design Automatic functionality; no control required No cooling requirements Easy to mount and connect No RS-485 command interface is required for this device.

Power and ground connections are recommended to use 22 AWG, minimum, wiring in accordance with M22759 or equivalent. Source input analog audio connections and output digital audio connections are recommended to use shielded twisted pair cabling as necessary in accordance with NEMA WC 27500. Both analog video and analog audio cable lengths between the source equipment and the SER-100-10x-x analog inputs should be kept as short possible. The ideal length is right next to source device, with cable length no more than a few inches. Longer analog cable segments degrade performance proportionally. Analog video input and SDI video output are recommended to use shielded coaxial cable V76261 PIC Wire and Cable. Analog audio input and AES3 serial digital output wire connections must be twisted shielded cable with the shield properly grounded to the dedicated pin at the source end to the dedicated pin at the load end. Twisted shielded cable shall be in accordance with NEMA WC 27500. SDI Video Output cable length limitations are 50 meters with up to four (4) interconnects permitted, as long as the connectors do not create in-line impedance (example - the 50 meter video cable can be broken up into five 10 meter segments). In-line connectors must be rated the same characteristic impedance; it must be designed for the cable and installed properly. In the case of V76261 PIC Wire and Cable, the characteristic impedance is 75 . All digital audio Cable impedance must be 110 +/- 10%. Cable length limitations are 100 meters with up to four (4) interconnects permitted, as long as the connectors do not create in-line impedance (example - a 50 meter audio cable can be broken up into five 10 meter segments). In-line connectors shall be rated the same characteristic impedance; it must be designed for the cable and installed properly.
