STANDBY GENERATOR START-UP INSPECTION MODEL: OWNER: SERIAL NUMBER: DISTRIBUTOR: FUEL: INSTALLER: PHONE: PURCHASE DATE: PHONE: START-UP DATE: PHONE: START-UP TECH: PRE-START CHECK LIST Check for freight damage, loose screws, loose fuel hose connections, check every wire termination for solid tight fit. Terminations often loosen after long freight hauls. LPG FUEL: Fuel tank should be 250 lbs. or more. Primary regulator (installed on fuel tank) must be set for 6 oz. or 11” water column. LPG must be of vapor withdrawal type. Diameter of “dedicated” LPG fuel line (no other loads connected to this line) between tank and gen-set: . Distance between tank and gen-set: FT. NATURAL GAS FUEL: Gas meter must be sized to exceed total Nat. Gas consumption. (total CFH = home or commercial gas load + gen-set gas load). Gas pressure to gas meter must be increased to 2 lbs. Gas pressure from meter to gen-set secondary regulator, must be 7-8” W.C. Diameter of “dedicated” Nat. Gas fuel line, (no other loads connected to this line) between meter and gen-set: . Distance between meter and gen-set: FT. Check Nat. Gas pressure at gen-set with monometer gauge to ensure required 7-8” W.C. is present. All fluid levels are correct: Anti-freeze, Battery electrolyte, & Crankcase oil. Generator is 100 feet or less from Transfer Switch controls. (Otherwise note distance: FT. ) All A-C & D-C controls & load wires are copper stranded (no solid wires). All D-C wires are run in separate conduit. Battery is new, fully charged and is at minimum required cold cranking amps or larger, for this gen-set model. Battery tests good with hydrometer. Unconnected battery voltage is DC volts. Connect battery. Energize commercial powered battery charger. Battery voltage with battery charger on, is D-C volts. All fuel lines, fuel connections, & electrical wiring are done by qualified and experienced installers. Check installation site carefully. It should be as close as possible to electric and gas utilities, but not so close that rain, snow, or ice can roll off a roof or other structure onto gen-set. Don’t allow sprinklers, to spray into gen-set, or engine exhaust to exit towards buildings, under roof over-hang soffits, or towards plants or habitation. Make sure gen-set elevation is high and level for proper drainage, away from gen-set. Proper gen-set grounding is very important. Follow NEC-250 standards for proper grounding rod installation instructions. Improper or no grounding will make gen-set operation erratic and un-safe, as potential shock exists. Check your owners guide for even more information, for the best successful installation and operation. START-UP CHECK LIST Follow Owners Manual instructions on initial generator set start-up. Check and correct any fluid, fuel or exhaust lines. Check and correct loose hardware, rattles, vibrations, loose wires. Start and stop engine several times. It may be necessary to adjust fuel load block (applicable on some models) for smooth engine idle or full load smooth engine performance. Allow engine to start and stop automatically several times by simulating a normal power failure. Manually start and stop engine several times from generator panel and transfer switch panel. Run generator and connect load. Assure that owner understands maximum load demands. Set Plant Exerciser to owner’s required exercise period. (where applicable) Make sure all transfer and timing control options are adjusted and operating to owner’s needs. Check overcrank shutdown by closing fuel valve and starting engine. Three individual 15 second engine crank cycles will take place before complete shutdown occurs. Test Voltage Output: No Load Volts Frequency . Full Load Volts Frequency . D-C volts. Battery Voltage while engine is cranking: Note Ambient Temperature at this location °F Instruct owner/operator on the complete operation of a standby generator set.
