Steno-cassette compartment, counter reset In Stop position, press the »EJECT« button. – The cover opens slowly and the counter is reset to zero (0). Insert the steno-cassette with its open side and the labelling visible into the stenocassette compartment. Close the steno-cassette compartment by pressing on its cover until it locks in place. ENGLISH ɟ Recording and control functions on the microphone – ļ – « button. To record: press the »ļ Ł Start to record: move the slide-switch to the »Ł START« position. ̛ ̛ STOP« position. To pause during recording: move the slide-switch to the » ̛ To end a recording: move the slide-switch briefly to the »ĵĵ REW« or »ŁŁ FFWD« position; then to the » STOP« position. ĵĵ Short rewind: move the slide-switch to the »ĵĵ REW« position. ŁŁ Fast forward: move the slide-switch to the »ŁŁ FFWD« position. ĵĵ ̛ Text marks --II End mark: briefly press the -»II II --- « button during recording. Info mark: during recording or while the machine is paused, press »II --- « until you hear the info signal. Index mark: briefly press the »II --- « button during playback. Storing end and info marks ɟ ĵĵ Insert a recorded steno-cassette that has not been rewound into the tape compartment. If the steno-cassette has not been removed from the compartment since recording, press the »EJECT« button to open the compartment and then close the compartment by hand. Press the »REWIND« button. Playback ŀ/y To playback using the speaker in the machine: press the ŀ/y ı ̛ Iĵĵ ľ-I-ı »SPEAKER/EAR« button stet (ё). To playback using headset accessories: click the »SPEAKER/EAR« button up (Ծ). Press the »PLAY« button to start playback. Press the »STOP« button to stop playback. Use the »BACKSPACE« rotary adjuster to set the backspace time from + “unlimited” (same as rewind) to – “minimum”. Use the »SPEED« rotary adjuster to set the playback speed. The adjuster locks in its middle position (normal speed). Repeatedly press the »SEARCH MODE« button until the desired mode is shown in the display. Switchable display modes After using the “dictation count” function, you can switch display modes. For “dictation count”, see section “Storing end and info marks.” L Press the »L LETTER MODE« button. – The display indicates the remaining letter time, the number of the current letter, and the number of infos contained therein. Example: PLAY STOP LC min LETTER INFO The remaining letter time of the 4th letter is 2.6 minutes DICTATE I4 I3 PHONE The letter contains 3 further infos. RECORD ERASE LETTER L SEARCH REWIND INFO 2 5.3 SEARCH REWIND Press the »L LETTER MODE« button once again (no L shown). – The display indicates the current tape position in minutes, the number of the current letter, and the number of the current info. Recording distance from microphone (dictation) approximately 10 cm. The machine adjusts automatically to the volume of the dictation when recording. If you speak closely to the microphone, less background noise is recorded. Each new recording automatically erases any previous recordings on that part of the tape. Recording Activating the record function Press the »ļ« button. – The record light on the microphone illuminates. – – The following appears in the display: Starting to record STOP START Move the slide-switch to the »Ł START« position. REW – The following appears in the display: – The tape is running. Your dictation is now being recorded. Resuming recording Press the »ļ« button. – Making corrections after a dictation WD STOP START At the end of the text passage you wish to correct, move the slide-switch on the microphone to » STOP«. ̛ Briefly press the »CORR/COUNTER STOP« button on the machine. PLAY STOP LC – The following appears in the display: DICTATE C PHONE RECORD LETTER INFOFO START REW WD STOP START min —0 0 ERASE SEARCH LETTER INFO I8 I8 REWIND FFWD Use the backspace function to rewind the tape before the beginning of the text passage to be corrected. STOP START REW Move the slide-switch into the »Ł START « position and speak the correction. PLAY STOP LC min – The following appears in the display: DICTATE PHONE RECORD LETTER INFO —8 8 ERASE SEARCH LETTER INFO I8 I8 REWIND FFWD – The display indicates the seconds available for the new recording. At the end of the corrected text passage, the machine switches back into playback mode. The following text will not be erased. Tape end and tape end switch-off After a recording time of 29 minutes, the machine emits a sound signal. At the end of the tape, the machine automatically switches to stop. When operated with a microphone or foot control, a warning signal sounds in addition. Conference recording with the microphone Recording sensitivityt Select one of the three switch settings: ı Private – I Normal – I Conference (recommended setting). Place the microphone in the middle of the conference table with the slide-switch facing upward. Place the microphone on a soft surface to reduce the amount of background noise recorded. Then proceed as in “Recording”. Interrupting a dictation You can interrupt a dictation, for example, to record a telephone call or a correction cassette. WD STOP START C ̛ STOP«. Briefly press the left » --II « or right » --II « button. – When releasing the button, an end mark will be recorded. – The letter number in the display is increased by 1. The end mark will be recognized by all Grundig dictation machines with a search function. See chapter “Search Function” Info mark Record spontaneous ideas, information or advice even within a dictation. Use messages to communicate with staff. Recording a brief message during dictation. You wish to record a brief message during a dictation. Recording is still switched on. The slideswitch is set to » Ł START«: Press and hold down the left » --II « or right » --II « button. Speak your message after the info signal. – The info number in the display is increased by 1. – The following appears in the display: PLAY STOP LC DICTATE PHONE RECORD LETTER INFO min 8 8.8 ERASE SEARCH LETTER INFO I8 I8 REWIND FFWD Release the » --II « button at the end of the message. – The end signal sounds. You can continue with the dictation. Recording longer messages You want to record a longer message or you wish to interrupt a dictation by stopping the tape to prepare a message. ̛ Recording is still switched on. The slide-switch is set to » STOP«. Press and hold down the left » --II « or right » --II « button until the info signal sounds. Then release the button. – The info number in the display is increased by 1. PLAY STOP LC min LETTER INFO – The following appears in the display: DICTATE PHONE RECORD LETTER INFO STOP START REW 8 8.8 ERASE SEARCH I8 I8 REWIND FFWD Move the slide-switch to »Ł START«. Record your message. You can interrupt recording as often as you wish. Terminate the message by briefly pressing the » --II « button. When releasing the button, an end mark is recorded. 10 02 St 3230,GB A5 14.10.2005 6:17 Uhr Seite 11 TEXT MARKS _______________________________________________________________________ Index mark Parts of the tape that have to be corrected can be marked with an index mark either during playback or stop. Press the left » --II « or right » --II « button at the required position. The text passages that are to be inserted can be recorded at the end of the dictation; or on another steno-cassette (used as a correction tape). ENGLISH Note: Let the person who will do your typing know what to do when an index mark is heard on the tape. Examples: – insert correction tape – read enclosed index note – call back for consultation. Note: The recording time between the text marks should be at least 10 seconds to make sure that the search function finds the marks. Every item of information is provided with an info mark at the beginning and an end mark at the end. With the help of the end mark, the machine recognises: – the end of a letter; – the continuation of a letter after an item of information; – the beginning of a new letter. The machine always allocates each item of information to a letter. 11 02 St 3230,GB A5 14.10.2005 6:17 Uhr Seite 12 DICTATION COUNT ___________________________________________________________ Storing end and info marks The end of the letter, as well as the start and end of an info, must be marked during dictation in order to register the letter and the info on the display. ɟ ĵĵ Insert a recorded steno-cassette that has not been rewound into the tape compartment. If the steno-cassette has not been removed from the compartment since recording, press the »EJECT « button and close the compartment by hand. ɟ Press the »ĵĵ REWIND « button. – The tape rewinds to the beginning. The end and info marks that were set during recording are counted and stored. Index marks are not stored. PLAY STOP LC min LETTER INFO – The following appears in the display: DICTATE PHONE RECORD LETTER INFO — —.— ERASE SEARCH I0 I0 REWIND FFWD – A maximum of 19 letters and 19 infos can be counted. – The machine automatically stops at the beginning of the tape. – The flashing number on the display shows the total dictation time and the number of letters and infos. For more information, see the section entitled ”Adjustable display modes”. Counter reset The counter is not automatically reset when the machine is turned on and off. Resetting the counter (when the machine is on): open the steno-cassette compartment by pressing the »EJECT « button and reclose it manually. ɟ ɟ Note: The counter is automatically reset after a power failure. 12 02 St 3230,GB A5 14.10.2005 6:17 Uhr Seite 13 PLAYBACK AND SEARCH MODES ______________________________ After using the ”Dictation count” function, you can select between the following playback and search modes. Playback of all recordings, searching for end and info marks Repeatedly press the »S SEARCH MODE« button until the display PLAY STOP indicates »LETTER INFO«. DICTATE – All recordings are played back. PHONE RECORD LETTER INFO LC min 8 8.8 ERASE SEARCH LETTER INFO I8 I8 REWIND ENGLISH S FFWD Playback and searching for letters S Repeatedly press the »S SEARCH MODE« button until the display PLAY STOP indicates »LETTER«. DICTATE PHONE – Only letters will be played back. RECORD LETTER INFO In the case of infos, the machine switches to »FFWD«. If an info is recorded at the point where the tape stops, “INFO” will flash on the display. ̛ Playback and searching for info recordings S Repeatedly press the »S SEARCH MODE« button until the display PLAY STOP indicates »INFO«. DICTATE PHONE – Only infos will be played back. RECORD LETTER INFO In the case of letters, the machine switches to »FFWD«. LC min 8 8.8 ERASE SEARCH LETTER INFO I8 I8 REWIND FFWD ̛ The search function will only stop at info marks. The user can press the » STOP« utton at any time. If a letter is recorded at the point where the tape stops, »LETTER« will flash on the display. How to playback, fast forward, rewind or search is described in the following chapters. Using the »S SEARCH MODE« button, it is possible to change the play-back or search mode at any time. Note: In the display mode “remaining letter time” (when L is shown in the display), the machine plays back all infos relating to the current letter and then it stops. You can set the length of the short rewind using the rotary adjuster »BACKSPACE Iĵĵ« on the top of the machine. PLAY STOP – The following appears in the display: DICTATE PHONE RECORD LETTER INFO LC min 8 8.8 ERASE SEARCH LETTER INFO I8 I8 REWIND FFWD In the ”+” position (maximum), the tape is wound back as long as the slide-switch is held in the »ĵĵ REW« position. As soon as an end-of-letter mark or info mark is recognized, you will hear a warning signal and the tape is briefly stopped. To continue fast rewind, hold the slide-switch in the »ĵĵ REW« position again. Fast forward Move the slide-switch to »ŁŁ FFWD« – the tape runs forward. FFWD STOP If the end of a letter or info is marked you will hear a short beep and the tape will stop briefly (depending on the chosen search mode). Slide the switch on the bottom of the machine to the desired position. Lock position: press pedal = start release the pedal and press it again = stop. Scan position: press and hold pedal = start release pedal = stop. Fast forward and short rewind using the 536 foot control Fast forward Step on the middle pedal of the foot control. – If the end of a letter is marked you will hear a short beep and the tape will stop briefly. In the “+” position (maximum), the tape is rewound as long as the pedal is held down. As soon as an end-of-letter mark or info mark is recognized, you will hear a warning signal and the tape is briefly stopped. To continue fast rewind, keep the pedal pressed down. Note: It depends on the chosen search mode at which kind of marks (end, info) the tape stops briefly. Searching for end and info marks The search function automatically locates marks set at the end of letters and the start and end of infos during recording; (see section Text Marks”). Polish and cleaning agents can damage the surface. Liquids should not be allowed to penetrate the inside of the unit. Parts that come into contact with the tape ɟ Open the tape compartment and remove the steno-cassette. ŁŁ Press and hold the »FFWD ŁŁ « button and the ĵĵ »ĵĵ REWIND« button simultaneously. – The capstan shaft spins. ENGLISH You should check regularly within the steno-cassette compartment for dust and for dirt caused by tape usage. We recommend that you clean these parts with a soft cotton swab that has been dipped in cleaning alcohol. Never use metal or hard objects!
