Game Rules STRAIGHT POOL (14.1 CONTINUOUS) PLAY AREA AND EQUIPMENT The play area and equipment are the same as featured for General Billiards. OBJECT OF THE GAME Straight Pool (or 14.1 Continuous) is a game of calling ball in pocket with no significance to solids/stripes or numerical order. Can be played with two players or two teams. Every object ball that is legally pocketed awards a point to the shooting player or team. The shooting player’s inning continues until the player misses or commits a foul. Once all 14 object balls are pocketed, those 14 balls are racked. The shooting player then shoots to make the 15-ball and break the rack to continue the game. The first player to reach the designated point goal for the game (usually between 50, 120, or 150) wins the game. The 1-ball is set in the rear left-hand corner, the 5-ball in the rear right-hand corner, the rest of the high numbered balls near the top of the triangle and the lower numbers at the bottom. On the opening break, the player calls the number of the object ball and the pocket to which it will be played. The shooter must use the cue ball to drop the called ball into the designated pocket or hit the called ball and another ball into a rail. If neither of these are done, it is considered a foul and the player loses 2 points. The opponent may play the balls as they lie or tell the shooter to repeat the break. This continues until a legal break is made or balls are played by the opponent. It is a foul if the cue ball from a break shot is pocketed. The shooter loses 1 point and the opponent becomes the shooter from behind the head string, but plays the balls are they are. Other fouls, penalized by loss of point and turn, include the following: • Hitting any moving balls • Making the cue ball rise above the playing service by striking it below its center or pushing the cue stick under it • Jumping the cue ball off the table • Shooting with both feet off the floor 24/7 Online Ordering!
