Termination power (TERM POWER jumper) The TERM POWER jumper sets the power supply for the terminating resistors on the SCSI bus. The terminating resistors can be provided with power by the drive or the SCSI bus. Termination power via the streamer = TERM POWER inserted TERMPOWER
Termination power via other SCSI devices = TERM POWER not inserted
TERM POWER jumper not inserted = power supply from SCSI bus
i
The terminating resistors of the SCSI bus should be as far as possible provided by the SCSI adapter (add-on card or onboard). This is the default setting (TERM POWER not inserted) of the streamer.
Termination/terminating resistor The last device at both ends of the SCSI bus must be equipped with a terminating resistor. Devices that are not connected to the end of the SCSI bus must not be terminated. If you run the streamer as the last device on the SCSI bus, you must connect an active terminating resistor to the SCSI interface of the streamer. The active wide SCSI terminating resistor can either already have been integrated in the SCSI cable or be connected as a separate connector.
i
A passive or SE terminating resistor is not allowed.

Mounting the streamer The streamer requires a 5 ¼" mounting location of half height. It can be mounted horizontally or vertically. ►
Switch off the system and open the casing.
►
If required, attach the mounting rails.
►
Set the correct SCSI ID.
!
SCSI ID 7 is used by the SCSI-Controller, don’t set this ID. The preset SCSI address is 6.
►
Mount the streamer into the system.
►
Attach the SCSI cable to the SCSI adapter (add-on card or onboard) or to the SCSI backplane (periphery box, e.g. SX10).
!
Ensure that the SCSI bus operates in LVD mode. Some SCSI controller allow the connection of devices to SE and LVD/SE. Connect in such a case the SCSI cable always to the LVD/SE connector, never to the SE connector (see the Quick Start Guide) SCSI Bus mode SE (Single Ended) is not allowed and leads to losses speed and to exceeding abrasion of the streamer and magnetic tape cartridges.
Mounting position The streamer can be installed either in a horizontal or in a vertical different position.

For LINUX based operating systems (Suse, RedHat), it is not required to install a tape driver. The tape drive can be accessed by using device handles. ►
type dmesg at the terminal console
►
scroll through the messages to verify that the tape drive has been detected by the SCSI controller.
You can access the tape drive over the handles /dev/st? or /dev/sfn? (? has to be replaced with the logical number of tape drive, like 0, 1, 2,...) with the commands mt , tar , cpio and dd. ►
Type man comand at the console to get detailed information.
SOLARIS For SOLARIS, it is required to add an entry in the st.conf file. The description of the required entry is defined in a solaris.txt file, which can be found on the same locations as the tape driver.
Firmware flash A firmware flash can be done under Widows and Linux by using L&TT (Library and tape tools). The flash tool can be found on the same locations as the tape drivers. For huge FW updates on the several systems, a firmware code load tape can be generated with L&TT. This is a cartridge which makes an automatical firmware flash when inserted into the streamer. The cartridge can be deleted again with L&TT to be used in the usual way. Please consult the documentation that comes with the flash tool.

Streamer LTO-3 half height 400GB/800GB SCSI Ultra320
Troubleshooting Getting Started: ►
Check whether the streamer is not ready-to-operate or is not recognized.
►
Check that you are using the latest version of the streamer firmware and bus adapter firmware (SCSI, SAS or USB - add-on card or onboard). Latest drivers, firmware and tools can be found under www.fujitsu-siemens.com/support.
►
Check that you are using the correct and appropriate device drivers for the streamer and the bus adapter. Latest drivers, firmware and tools can be found under www.fujitsusiemens.com/support.
►
Check that you are using the latest service packs, patches or updates for the operating system and the backup application. For additional information, refer to the support pages of the operating system or backup application suppliers.
Streamer is not ready-to-operate or is not recognized ►
Check whether the LED indicators of the streamer are lighting during/after power on the server. If not, check that the power cable to the streamer is properly connected.
►
Check whether the LED indicators of the streamer are indicating a failure status. First eliminate this failure status.
►
Carry out a self-test of the streamer, if possible.
►
For Microsoft Windows operating systems: Check whether a yellow exclamation mark or a red cross is shown in the Device Manager next to a bus adapter or a streamer. If so, uninstall and reinstall the appropriate device drivers.
►
For LINUX operating systems: Check whether the streamer is detected after typing dmesg at the terminal console and scrolling through the messages. The system inquiry of the streamer must be registered (see chapter "Software installation" and "Technical data").
►
Check whether the data cable (SCSI, SAS or USB) is properly connected to the bus adapter and streamer, and that none of the pins in the connector are bent.
►
For SCSI: Check whether the SCSI cable is connected to the LVD or LVD/SE port of the SCSI bus adapter.
►
For SCSI: Depending on the SCSI configuration, an additional SCSI terminator may have to be connected to the end of the SCSI cable. Check if the SCSI terminator is properly connected.
►
For SCSI: Check whether the SCSI ID setting is correct. The SCSI ID of the streamer must not be identical with the SCSI ID of the SCSI bus adapter or other SCSI devices.
►
Remove the cartridge from the streamer.
►
Restart your server and ensure that the streamer will be recognized.
The streamer should now be ready for operation. If not, please contact the Fujitsu Siemens Computers hotline.

Streamer does not accept a cartridge ►
Check whether the streamer is not ready-to-operate or is not recognized.
►
Check whether the streamer must be cleaned. To determine this status, check the streamer’s indicator for cleaning.
►
Use a new cartridge and check if it is accepted.
The streamer should accept the cartridge now. If not, please contact the Fujitsu Siemens Computers hotline. Streamer does not eject a cartridge ►
Check whether the streamer is executing a “Format Recovery”. Depending on the streamer type, this may take several hours, during which time the status indicator flashes constantly. The cartridge can only be removed after this process is completed.
►
Check whether the unload of the cartridge is locked by the backup application. Unlock this if necessary.
The streamer should eject the cartridge now. If not, please contact the Fujitsu Siemens Computers hotline. The cartridge cannot be written ►
Check whether the streamer is not ready-to-operate or is not recognized.
►
Check whether the write protection of the cartridge is activated.
►
Check whether the streamer must be cleaned. To determine this status, check the streamer’s indicator for cleaning.
►
Check whether the cartridge is locked by the backup application. Unlock this if necessary.
►
Use a new cartridge and check if it is accepted and if a write process is possible.
The streamer should write to the cartridge now. If not, please contact the Fujitsu Siemens Computers hotline. Problems with the performance and read/write ►
For SCSI: Check that the streamer is connected to the correct SCSI port of the SCSI bus adapter (add-on card or onboard). The streamer should only be connected to the appropriate port (LVD or LVD/SE) with the correct speed (Ultra2, Ultra160 or Ultra320)!
►
For USB: Check that the streamer is connected to the correct USB port of the bus adapter (add-on card or onboard). The streamer should only be connected to the USB 2.0 port.
►
For USB: Check whether to the USB bus of the USB bus adapter (add-on card or onboard), to which the streamer is connected, USB 1.1 devices are connected to. The streamer is only allowed to operate together with USB 2.0 devices on the same USB bus.
►
Check the cartridge block size setting of the streamer. For good performance, the cartridge block size should be set at least to 32 kB (standard setting of most backup applications). For optimum performance, set 64 kB. Please consult the documentation/help of your backup application to determine the setting and how to change it.
►
Check whether the streamer must be cleaned. To determine this status, check the streamer’s indicator for cleaning.
►
Check that the bus adapter has been configured to ensure that it performs at its maximum performance. For example, check the Windows registry settings for SCSI and SAS block sizes - MaximumSGList setting - for SCSI bus adapter Adaptec 29160 and Fujitsu Siemens D1305.
